[Posted a comment and it disappeared into the RUclips graveyard!]
Jeremy, you continue to amaze me - not only with the prolific rate at which you produce these interesting and informative videos, but also at the work that goes into the technical production and editing of the videos themselves. Polished, slick, eye-catching - just some of the great qualities that help to catch a chance viewer (with the hope they will then become subscribers).
As for content, you covered just about everything the viewer would wish to know without rushing but also without wasting time. A was pleased, but not surprised, to hear you make the point that such simple point-scoring doesn't tell the complete story and there are other, perhaps more subjective, issues that need more detailed assessment. And I wasn't totally surprised to find that there were some features that Yamaha missed but could have included within the same price. In a word, Excellent!

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  4 года назад +2

Your kind words never fail to warm the cockles of my heart, Bryan. RUclips's algorithm is extremely picky these days and and I have to raise my standard if I were to stand a chance for my effort to be seen. These days, one can be subscribed and clicked the bell icon and yet may never know that I've uploaded a video. 😥
Hang in there and hoping things get better down under. 😊

Stellar review... I knew the Casio had midi.. For me that makes it the clear winner! I have a loads of Midi gear and love midi to death.... It was how I recorded keyboards long before I had a multi-track recorder.. (Zoom R16) . The 48 note Poly of the Casio is another clear winner in my book too...

Honestly, the ergonomics, USB midi and the (especially in the CTs300 with key sensitivity and pitch/bend wheel ) makes up for all it's shortcomings over native sound quality. Virtual VST instruments, means they can sound like the best keyboards and pianos in the market.

Hey, the Casio CT-S200 looks like a great instrument to a beginner, I am a bassist for the last 10 years and I'm thinking about getting a keyboard to start playing some classic rock n roll like Deep Purple and The Doors, I have a small question, do you know if in the Casio CT-S200 it's possible to adjust the tuning so that I can play together with albums like the debut album from the Doors, they have a lower pitch, I'm not 100% but I believe its 432hz tuning. do you know if it's possible to do that on this keyboard or even in the PSR-E273? Thanks!

I thought I posted this earlier but maybe I didn't hit the comment button..
This was fun. :) You were spot-on with this review and I agreed with your view on each feature. The Ct-S200 would have left Yamaha in the dust if they had used the AiX sound source. They would have been flying off of the shelves. When I tried the CT-S200 in the shop, the sound was so cringey that I didn't play it for long. (I actually winced with some of the tones..something the shop-owner noticed. ;)) Sound, for me, is the most important feature and the Yamaha was, by far, the best.. The Casio had way more features.
I know keyboard companies intentionally leave out important details to discourage the budget varieties and automatically lead consumers to the next model up.. When I think of entry level keyboards and who is actually buying them (first-time players.. parents and grandparents buying them for gifts..) it's a fact that there is huge money for keyboards in this price range. These types of consumers don't know exactly what they are buying and the lack of some of the better features becomes a frustration later.. or can even be critical in someone new deciding if they want to continue to play. If they love it, they will upgrade later.
I have a deep-seated passion regarding first-time keyboards. (I've kinda made that known in a couple of other posts). One reason is.. I, also, am on a small budget and also learning keyboard for the first time.
Jeremy, that's why I appreciate not only your knowledge of ALL models, but the "teacher" in you. No keyboard snobbery and great consideration for new players. Something I've also mentioned before.
For keyboard manufacturers to make a keyboard as good as they can in an affordable price range.. with a few surprise features .. is to build a name and loyal long-term customers. To hold back a few nice things to fit a price range is being penny-wise and dollar foolish in the long-term. Casio got it right with the CT-X700 and 800.
My first guitar was inexpensive, had a great tone and excellent action. I played for 45 years afterwards and grew in style and skill .. mostly because my first guitar sounded so awesome. It was a Yamaha and have had respect for the company ever since. (My hands are damaged so, at my age, I'm learning keyboard .. which means you're never too old!)
Thank you for this review, Jeremy! I love watching your videos... :)

Always a pleasure to hear from you, Shelly. Love your insights. Hopefully, Casio can take these feedback constructively and do more justice to the Casiotone brand for the next iteration. 😉 I hope the Covid-19 situation is under control where you live. God Bless!

    • @ShellyAnderson0624

@@JeremySee.. In all fairness I suppose the point of the CT-S models was for nostalgia. Some people had owned the old-school ones back in the day and remembered it with fondness. So maybe the sound was part of the nostalgia. But the new ones and an AiX sound source, .. with that sleek design.. fun red color, and handle for portability ... that would have made them a best seller.

  • @HubertEtAlice

Hi Jeremy very useful review as usual.
A few remarks : IMHO Yamaha wins over Casio on two points you have not mentioned at all : the readability of the screen which is way better on the Yamaha, and the Quiz feature which is on the Yamaha but not on the Casio.
I think that the Yamaha is more geared towards kids from 4-5 to 8-9 years old learning to play at home, and who are to young to use computers (the reason why there is no USB socket but there is a Quiz feature) and the Casio is more geared towards teenagers, hence the Dance Music feature and the handle to carry the instrument to the parc or to the beach for instance.
Anyway, for people who are a bit more serious and can afford a bit more money, I’d say go straightaway for a CT-X700 or a PSR E363.
That said, if all the features of the E273 are brought over to the E373 (if it ever hits the market), I think the forthcoming E373 could make a winner.
Have a nice summer with your family my friend 🤗🌅

    • @JeremySee

Jeremy See Hi again. Here it is summer right now for two more months to go and we have just about that : 30 to 35 degrees. Last year the temperatures went as high as 40 to 45 but fortunately, after two weeks it went back to normal again. In winter ❄️ it may freeze and, rarely (because we’re located in the South), we may have some snow ⛄️.

For example far more number of styles (which are better also) and very easy user interface (including hardware interface) of Yamaha e273 weigh more than all the advantages of Casio and easily make it a far better buying choice.

I just bought a barely used Casio CT-200 for $80, which step completes my acquisition of keyboards. My primary instrument is a Roland FP-30X. The FP-30X is a superb acoustic piano emulator, but I would not call it portable.
What I wanted a portable keyboard for was to take to the group vocal class at local senior center just for purpose of playing chords. For cheap smaller keyboard, 61-key and less, a this design of Casio represents the top of the price tier along with a similar Yamaha. This is much like the situation with the Roland FP-30X, the Yamaha P-125 and P-225 and the Casio Privia PX-S1100 represent the top of the entry-level full keyboard price tier. What you get may depend on what you want to do, but my experience tells me, whatever tier you are buying at, buy at the top of it, not the bottom. Other keyboard teachers have compared different 61-key portable and beginner keyboards. One of them declared the Casiotone 61-key keyboard the one most capable of being used in some way by a performing musician. Maybe the Yamaha represents the low level of another tier. In that case, find the top of that tier and buy there.
For the record, I am not an accomplished musician. I reached intermediate beginner level on the acoustic piano decades ago and decided to return to it after being brought to karaoke and vocal class by a friend. I am a good researcher though. Maybe my conclusion should carry some weight. I hope so. I put a lot of time into my research and I think I sift through the marketing puffery pretty well.
I've only had the Casio home for an hour and change and I only got about 15 minutes on it playing the chords for one of my songs and playing some scales and exercises. It's not as bad as it first seems at first. You have to choice the voice for what you want to do and then it becomes a decent instrument for your defined purpose.
I forgot to mention, I got a single-beam X stand and the plastic music stand with the Casio.

One thing I've been thinking @jeremy -- although the Yamaha has so many options and buttons for sound, will it be overwhelming for a beginner? Is a simpler interface better? I am a beginner and wondering if the sleek design would just make it easier... less overwhelm... but how annoying is it REALLY to have to scroll with the dial?
