The Magsafe feature of your case is primarily intended to allow connection of Magsafe chargers to the phone (and permit charging through the case). It's only a pass-through; the DropGuys case doesn't have any magnetic connection of its own. Clearly it's going to reduce the strength of the magnetic connection at least a little. The adhesive-backed metal plates are meant for users who want to apply them to the outside of a case for an even stronger hold than the Magsafe by itself. Like if you have a dedicated case that's weatherproof or has a screen protector for using a phone during golf sessions. I have one of these GPods (the small travel model), and hold is solid - directly to the phone. I found your review mainly because I'm considering the "spike" model for use on course. Thanks!

If the Drop Guys case doesn't have it's own magnets in it, then it's not really a MagSafe case. If so, then of course it's not going to be as secure.

The Apple case had the same issues. Unfortunately the only way I get it to work is with the extra plate they provide. I just wished it was as sturdy without it. Thanks for the comment.
