Saying that FloJo could’ve beaten Jesse Owens was such a shit take. Jesse Owens ran on dirt/cinder, not the modern bouncy tracks. Shoe technology changed in those fifty years as well.
I agree! Also, that’s the same as folks saying Elaine today would’ve beaten FloJo. There will be major adjustments in training, diet, technique, track surfaces, and shoes. Don’t even get me started on the supplements and knowledge on science in many different fields that play a role. Simply put, Jesse Owens, all things considered, would have smoked Bolt today…running 10.2 under those conditions is like running a low 9 second 100M today. FloJo’s 10.49 in Tokyo or Eugene with those trampoline Nike’s everyone is wearing today would’ve been a friggin’ 10.3 today! The conversions, especially in just the shoes and track surfaces alone, are tremendous.

The analysis about the wind controversy in this puts an end to all the controversy. So, for ~5 minutes, the wind was blowing at the side of the athletes and not a tail or head wind during Flo Jo's race. Brilliant.
They had similar body structure. Torri Bowie had a sweet, calm demeanor. Gwen Torrence had a defiant personality. The comparison is correct. Both women are beautiful athletes and sprinters.
I am a backyard meteorologist and i can tell you FloJo's 100 meter record was Not wind aided! The wind apparently did stop. And I can prove it. If you look at the full version about 2 minutes before the race started (when they were all standing there in their assigned lanes) any reasonable person can see the strands of their long hair was not blowin in the supposedly 15 mph wind. I seen a couple of strands move a little ,then it was not moving at all. If the wind was blowing 15 mph, their hair would be moving in the wind all over the place while simply just standing no matter if you use a whole bottle of Spritz hair spray or not. Even the judges around them hair was not moving. If you got long hair and you stick your head out of a car window at 15 mph your hair will be blowing like crazy. Sometimes the weather does crazy things. How does dirt devils spin right next to you at 30 mph and you feel no wind at all? How does it rain across the street but your house remains completely dry? Hurricane Patricia produced 215 mph winds but zero wind in the center? A tornado can wipe out all the houses on your side of the street and not touch the house right across the street. Even in high winds, the atmosphere can create pockets of no wind. Pilots deal with it all the time. It can cause a plain to suddenly drop 50 feet. There was no wind during that race.
You are simply wrong about there being no wind during FloJo’s “WR” 10.49. I was there. I was standing a few meters behind the start line extended, essentially in line with the wind gauge. There was definitely an aiding wind. Whether it was 3.0 m/s or 4.0 m/s will be forever unknown. But a triple jump essentially simultaneous with the 100 had a 4.3 m/s aiding wind. The TJ wind gauge and the 100 wind gauge were in fact rather close to each other. Had the wind reading for the 100 been even 2.0 m/s, I would not argue. But the actual wind was not 0.0 m/s.
Here's the problem with your theory: The race you described was not the 10.49 WR race. You gave a detailed description of the 10.79 she ran in this video. This clip shows a snippet of the 10.49 race, but it does not show the standing around and still hair before the 10.49. Your perfectly described her 10.79 race. Additionally, she gets a micro jump on the entire field. Was that *reaction time* or a *false start?* Put this clip on slow-mo at 6:56 and 8:18. She definitely moves before everyone else, but without sound, I cannot conclude that it was a false start.
@kelvikelv5322 OK, that's a very interesting argument because I've never heard that the video was actually 2 different videos spliced together. So where is the missing 2 minutes lineup for the 10.49 race? Even without it, your argument still proves my theory that the wind did stop blowing by admitting it wasn't blowing in her 10.79 run. There are clowns that claim they were there. And they're screaming the wind was blowing 15 mph the whole time. You just proved that there were times when the wind was not blowing.
@@hellbent7066 Remember... the 10.49 race was *the day before* the 10.79 race. Weather condition could likely have been very different. They inserted just the actual race in this video here. The video quality of the 10.49 race was really poor IMO, so I doubt you can see still or blowing hair in the wind.
In a couple of her most recent faster races I've noticed Sha'carri start to show that same slightly leaning back 'floating' fluid running style as Flo-Jo in the latter part of the 100 metres.......it seems to be working well for her
She's not as smooth as FloJo but she's only 5'2''' or something, so she's not going to be able to duplicate FLoJo's form exactly. She definitely benefits from all of the improvements in technique and training that all female sprinters enjoy in the last couple of decades, something that FloJo was one of the first to start doing. She's surprisingly strong and her knee lift is beautiful, textbook.
Evelyn Ashford....a class act! She had the fastest second place time in history in this race at her age..I think looking over her entire career. And time..on top. .our Greatest Sprinter ever!!! ..she graciously answered the reporters question in support of Flojo......I have to say Florencs voice was so deep....and the change in her body from the Olympics in 84 to the next few years was like night and day....her legs and how muscular she became....Like Evelyn said its possible.... and I love Flo jo.....I'm just not certain if I believe she was totally clean after watching Marion Jones unravel and Ben Johnson.🎉never the less 2 great champions here..🎉🎉🎉🎉

This is nonsense. There are interviews with her from 1984 where her voice is exactly the same. She always had a deep voice. Aside from her hair her body is EXACTLY the same size it was in 1984 four years later. There is a bit more definition in her shoulders but she is not larger and if anything her legs were larger in 1984 but less defined. Richardson, Jackson, and Fraser-Pryce look like trucks next to her. If she was juicing then definitely so are they. And FWIW, it was not so easy to avoid getting caught like everybody seems to think. If you remember and as you mentioned, the winner of the men's 100m (Ben Johnson) was stripped of his title and banned a day after he won at the very same Olympics in 1988. Please stop with the accusations you can't prove and have no basis in fact. As a former bodybuilder, if she was juicing, the drugs were not working.
Flo Jo had the most perfect top end sprinting form ever to this day. Men included. End of story. Her ability to ever so slightly lean back, get her hips and forelegs up so she could get her feet to actually accelerate backwards before they hit the ground was where her ability to maintain top speed lies. She relied heavily on her hamstrings to support her force when her foot hits the ground.. More so than any sprinter I have ever seen. She was no where near as muscular as the Jamaican women are and they still can't run as fast as she did.. I think she was the only sprinter to actually maintain her fastest 10 meter split times for 50 meters. Incredible. My question for all the coaches out there is why haven't they tried to replicate it. It's quite obvious that hurt form was that good

It doesn't matter what the haters say, her form was perfect. People can make assumptions about steroid usage all they want, but I've never known roids to give a person perfect running form.
A Flo Jo biopic would be about 15 minutes long. Except 87-88 when she started running suspicious times, she was routinely beat by Ashford, Alice Brown, Merlene Ottey and more. If anybody knows the real deal it should be Carl Lewis.
Amazing Video! I love the evolution of Flojo. While in college in the 1990s, that was my nickname for my appearance. Lol. I wish i had her skills😂😂❤❤❤❤
Exactly... she looks like she's flying over the track. I saw a video analyzing her strides, saying her feet spent the least time touching the track as any runner known, male or female, including the top male runners, like Bolt. She was so fast because her form was the best ever, and you can plainly see it as she runs. Steroids didn't create that flawless form. Training and talent did. No one since her has run with such perfection. Her running is virtually art. Amazing!
For the folks who keep talking about how windy it was that day, the explanation of the announcer makes tons of sense to counter their claims. Also, what many don’t realize, is, the winds are all over the place within the same day; it’s not a constant, and it doesn’t come from the same direction. For example, think 2021 when ShaCarri ran that first round into positive tail wind. The second round, a slightly (tail) windy 10.6. The third round, the ran 10.8 into a pretty strong head-wind! This is at the exact same track, and it went from too much tail wind to too much headwind. This happens, folks…the wind isn’t always consistent, and if it were blowing, it doesn’t mean it was specifically a tailwind. I’m not saying it wasn’t windy during her event, because it appears to be the case, but, we sprinters know that ish’t switches up on us fast, and before we know it, we are fighting a headwind; this especially got me in the hurdles!
I was there in 1988. Throughout the 100 “WR”, the wind was blowing from nearly directly behind the runners, and it was plenty strong. As the reading been 2.0 m/s, I might have believed it. But 0.0 m/s? No way!
@@ConsciousFBA FloJo’s 200 WR of 21.34 was set at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul with a legal +1.3 m/s aiding wind. Her supposed 100 WR of 10.49 was set at the 1988 US Olympic Trials in Indianapolis with a fictional 0.0 m/s wind. (A triple jump just a few meters away had a +4.3 m/s aiding wind.) Her actual 100 WR set that year was 10.61 with a legal +1.2 m/s aiding wind.

The analysis about the wind controversy in this puts an end to all the controversy. So, for ~5 minutes, the wind was blowing at the side of the athletes and not a tail or head wind during Flo Jo's race.
Brilliant.
Gwen Terrence reminds me of Tori Bowie 🙏
They had similar body structure. Torri Bowie had a sweet, calm demeanor. Gwen Torrence had a defiant

flo jo, the GOAT..
Wow, both very fast competitors!! Thanks for posting this
I am a backyard meteorologist and i can tell you FloJo's 100 meter record was Not wind aided!
Very Well Said👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
You are simply wrong about there being no wind during FloJo’s “WR” 10.49.
In a couple of her most recent faster races I've noticed Sha'carri start to show that same slightly leaning back 'floating' fluid running style as Flo-Jo in the latter part of the 100 metres.......it seems to be working well for her
True, she just needs to work on her starts
She's not as smooth as FloJo but she's only 5'2''' or something, so she's not going to be able to duplicate FLoJo's form exactly. She definitely benefits from all of the improvements in technique and training that all female sprinters enjoy in the last couple of decades, something that FloJo was one of the first to start doing. She's surprisingly strong and her knee lift is beautiful, textbook.
Shacaari nothing near flo jo.......

And time..on top. .our Greatest Sprinter ever!!! ..she graciously answered the reporters question in support of Flojo......I have to say Florencs voice was so deep....and the change in her body from the Olympics in 84 to the next few years was like night and day....her legs and how muscular she became....Like Evelyn said its possible.... and I love Flo jo.....I'm just not certain if I believe she was totally clean after watching Marion Jones unravel and Ben Johnson.🎉never the less 2 great champions here..🎉🎉🎉🎉
Facts are stubborn things. "FloJo was juicing". These are just assumptions. The truth is, no one has ever proven these allegations. So FloJo's world records are and will remain official. I don't see anyone who can topple them. FloJo achieved her results with the perfect harmony of body, soul and spirit.

A Flo Jo biopic would be about 15 minutes long. Except 87-88 when she started running suspicious times, she was routinely beat by Ashford, Alice Brown, Merlene Ottey and more. If anybody knows the real deal it should be Carl Lewis.
This final acceleration is definitely her trade mark
As proven by her still standing 200m WR.
Amazing Video! I love the evolution of Flojo. While in college in the 1990s, that was my nickname for my appearance. Lol. I wish i had her skills😂😂❤❤❤❤
Jesus Christ! She's floating!
Exactly... she looks like she's flying over the track. Amazing!
Great video quality 👍🏽
No way!
The other thing is she also set the record in the 200. Was that wind aided too? These people are ridiculous with all their theories. RIP to the Queen.

FloJo’s 200 WR of 21.34 was set at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul with a legal +1.3 m/s aiding wind.
