They truly were, so sad it ended like it did. She and Al had a short but beautiful relationship. To bad more people don't get to experience love like that! I read their story recently in an old ESPN write-up called "Dream Chaser" and it literally brought me to tears. My heart broke for Al and Mary Ruth! I recently saw her on an old re-run of "227"over the week-end and it jarred my memory. I knew I had heard of her but couldn't remember much so I looked her up on Wikipedia and was shocked to see she had died so young! Then I read the ESPN article. I was 13 when she died and I remember watching the news coverage of her death with my mom. I didn't know who she was but my mom told me she was an Olympian from years earlier. At 13, 38 years old didn't seem so young. Now at 35 it devastates me to think of such a vibrant, beautiful, kind, and talented person dying so suddenly at such a young age and leaving so much love behind! You probably already know this but FloJo was known as Dee Dee to her friends and family!

What a tremendous job they did to block those mental obstacles to interview well with this don't get me wrong a very lady-like, delicate, dainty-looking, traditional-minded White female interviewer in a seemingly black tie gathering there in the Western U.S. They must of lived well at the time a Trump-inspired cloud 9 world back then. They lived like a king and a queen.

I remember running in Aunt Jackie Relays track meets some of the best high school track events in the nation .. fun times!

That miraculous wind carried her in 2 different events, 2 months apart in 2 different countries in the 2 different races that she still holds the world records for. That wind was amazing and only existed in Flo Jo's world record races lol (sarcasm)
A lot of remarks have been made that her retirement at 29 was suspect but the fertility of women drops rapidly after 30. If you consider having children more important than career then her actions make perfect sense.
