If you look close at the 55 used for the roll over in American Graffiti. It is a single exhaust small block. Nothing special about it. Not too sure they used any Two Lane Blacktop car for the roll over. Definitely for the hero Falfa car though. I like American Graffiti the very first time seeing it at the theater. Classic Americana of days gone by. Cruising and stoplight to stoplight action. There will never be a time like that again in America. And we are sadder for it.
I grew up in Santa Rosa.until 7 years ago. Being a hot rodder at heart I owned a bunch of trifive Chevies and other muscle cars. Still own the 56 Chevy 150 utility sedan that delivered phone books for Pacific Bell Telephone...purchased it from the shop that seviced it since new and used it as a shop car..I acquired it from them in 1981 and it now resides in my garage. I drive it to local car shows in Las Vegas where I retired..left the back seat delete and fixed quarter glass.
If you check on the facts about "American Graffiti", you'll find that the 427 stunt car wouldn't flip over like they wanted, so a used 55 was sourced for that filming.
There was no 427 powered stunt car , that car and the camera car had the LS-6 ! 454 engines , with a single four barrel intake . The race car had the 427 L-88 tunnel ram equipped engine in it . Why put a 450 hp engine in your race car , and then put the engine that makes over 550 hp in the stunt car ? Does that really make any sense to you ?
@buzzwaldron6195 sorry no , some time back , a video was made that got a lot of the details wrong . Unfortunatly , most videos since than quote that wrong infomation .
The hero car has re emerged if it is in fact authentic, and just saw a video on it. It did have a 454 in it and that is also how it is identified in the movie. Visually they are pretty much indistinguishable since a 454 is just a stroked 427. A 454 can make more power than 427.
@SSK-27 the LS6 version of the 454 was rated as being more powerful than a 427 , however the LS6 made 450hp , the 427 L88 engine which is the actual engine that Richard Ruth put in the " hero car " was rated by Chevrolet at 430 hp , yet dyno tests have shown thatvthey made 550 hp, and this was before the engine got the Wieand tunnel ram , with a pair of 660 Holleys on it . Believing the script from a movie , will get you into trouble every time . I read about the three cars in Car Craft Magazine , before the movie came out .
It didn’t “slip” into reverse. It was staged for Taylor and left in reverse by whoever staged it. Taylor didn’t know, dumping the clutch at 6 k in reverse.
I was told that this movie was filmed in my hometown,Athens TN.. I was also told that the leading female was foul ,both in hygiene and language. In my book the star will always be the car. To my knowledge only two were made. The hot rod and the roll over.
@@buzzwaldron6195 I had 56's in my '55 2dr post and I was in 4th gear before I could see the 1/8 mile line on Friday and Saturday nights down on Lower River Road. I've owned it since September of '76.

Still looking for a posey-track rearend....
Those beloved heavy duty Olds rears are unicorns now... LOL!
R Ruth...Hell of a car builder fabricator
In the summer of 1968 my girlfriend and I drove my 427 powered 57 Chevy from Florida to New York City and back
So cool and you"ll never forget it.
I love that car!
The episode of Adam 12 with this car was on a couple of days ago.
Love the movie and yes I own a 55 Chevy
Really enjoyed the video. Great info and content! Just subscribed! Thanks for posting.
The Oldsmobile "O" axle is almost unbreakable. Went more then once looking for them in salvage yards just to use in racing back in the day
RI.P. DENNIS❣️😢
The Mechanic in this movie was Dennis Wilson drummer for the Beach Boys.

And had to be forced to tip over...
The car appears on Adam-12 in an alley in one of the episodes. The way it was in Two lane black top
Good notes that I didn't know about, I hope it's all correct.
Painted black and appeared in "American Graffiti."
Adam 12 also.
Rumor has it that the same guy who own's the black 55 also own's Milner's 32 from American Graffiti.
Wow, posy (poe-zee) traction rear end! 3-4-5-4 cubic inch engines!
Same 55 chevy was used in American graffiti
Quit using AI. Makes a good video very lame. Didn't even finish watching. I will not support AI video's.
All my friends knew this movie it was a bible to hot rodders like me and my buddies 😁😁😁😁
is that DD speed shop?

They had like 107 premium pump gas that was leaded back in the day. Not this watered down stuff we call gasoline today.

Happens too often in real life... driver backs up for lights and forgets it's in R...
Sorta kind of been an Alec Baldwin on the set of Rust moment

Filmed along Route 66... a Road Kill video follows same path...
Multiple cars explains the two different redlines on the tach. One is 7000 while the other is 7500. Betchya didn't know that.
Supposed to be 4.56 rear end but on strip it bogs off the line and then pulls 1st half way down and finishes the 1/4 in 2nd!

@@lylejohnston4125 the L-88 powered race car had 4:88s in it , not 4:56s .
