I've changed a few but caps in my time, In my experience a rubber solution glues work fine, such as evo-stik contact adhesive. With a rubber solution glue, you get some shock absorbing properties, and best of all you can replace the cap again (should it get damaged) by pulling hard, or cutting a slice in the cap and pulling it apart. Epoxy resin will do the job too well, over kill in my opinion.
Instead of placing the adhesive (epoxy in this case) in the butt cap, it's less messy to spread thinly over the end/edge of the grip; as you push the butt cap on, the adhesive naturally spreads upwards (toward the throat) on the grip as well as down the (in)sides of the butt cap. This is especially important for those of us using Head racquets with trap doors and no handle foam, since we can still be able to add silicone / tungsten, foam (what have you) without dealing with a goop of adhesive glue.
Really helpful video! I found silicone injected in my brand new Wilson racquets(RF97, Ultra tour etc.). My friend told me it was one of the tricks from Wilson manufactures to make up the weight during QA process...If the weight isn't too far away, they will use foam fill.
Tennis spin very good info on replacing the butt cap ,FYI there is a product on the market that by changing the factory butt cap to an Xtended XTP butt cap can add half an inch to ANY RACQUET or paddle. Yes its the easy way to lengthen any racquet by half an inch or slightly more, making the racquet an XL version of itself,,most standard racquets are 27 inches long but many many pros play with slightly longer models up to 28 inches and its legal to play a 29 incher actually,,so check out the XTP and stretch you game by Xtending you racquet. Thx.j
Pouring that amount of epoxy in the butt cap seems crazy. A small amount on the inside wall of the buttcap or botton of the handle pallet will suffice.
FYI, actually you can take it off, just use heat gun. Epoxy adhesive is weak on high heat, I used to replace golf club shaft with 2 parts epoxy and remove them with heat gun when needed to change shaft again. You might also melt or deform the butt cap, tho...
Epoxi is the glue that has the carbon fiber frame because it sticks very well to the carbon fibers. So it's part of the frame. That's why it works so well for fixing the butcapp I think.
It's easier to remove the staples if you first pop the buttcap trap door and then use a flat head screwdriver to push the pins out slightly from inside the handle.
BOTH of my Wilson Blade Lite models had loose butt cap problems and the company refused to do anything or make it right. I will never buy Wilson racquets again. Thanks for the video to do what the manufacturer should be doing for a $200 plus frame.
Tennis Spin, Great video as usual. Can you please make a video on how to change grip pallets? Hacks to get old pallets off and what to use to staple the buttcap? Having trouble finding suitable staples and a stapler that is actually powerful enough to staple the cap on the pin. Thanks in advance:-)
Get an electric staple gun. It's the professional way to attach a buttcap. They're expensive, but well worth it if you want a professional job. I've had one in each of my shops for a while now and will never look back.
Hello..butt cappers..Xtending your racquet or paddle really got alot easier with the XTP Xtended Tennis Product butt cap simply remove factory cap an install the XTP..dont use super glue use somekind of FLEXIBLE rubber cement and can restaple if necessary..thx..john
It's easier to get the butt cap off if you use an awl to pry out the staples. You can also use doublesided tape to put on a buttcap. As you never see any customers I wonder if this is an actual shop of just a prop for this bloke's videos.
It may have been a good idea to glue the butt cap on the end without the trap door. So, the person could access the material in the handle with ease. It is good that you did not replace the grip. Because the customer has to replace the lead tape which was stripped from the handle. It is a nice way to permanently affix a butt cap😊. A little more glue and there may have been no need to replace any of that lead tape😉
Tennis Spin, can you get in the Yonex butt caps with the trap door? I have an old Super RQ 700 To Long that has the old style butt cap and I think it's been cracked since I bought the racquet. Now where Yonex used to have those gummy like grommets at 3 & 9 some of them are rattling around inside the old butt cap and otherwise the racquet is in great shape and I'd like to fix it back up to have in my bag as a backup. I'm handy enough that I customize my racquets I've never seen the butt caps installed with epoxy glue before though I always just knew staples which you have to be careful not to split the plastic of the new butt caps if you use them.
Hi Tennis Spin, is it possible to put a butt cap of one brand on a racquet of another brand, given the same grip size? For example, putting a Head butt cap on a Wilson racquet
Please, go buy a pneumatic stapler & small compressor immediately. As a tennis player & a craftsman… this video was painful to watch. You could buy everything you need & a lifetimes worth of staples for about $150. That’s a small price to pay to avoid the aggravation of trying to pry one of those caps off after it’s been epoxied on. 😉🎾😁
I have thee rf97’s. All of the staples into the grip caused my grips to break apart at the point where they get staples. So using epoxy or some glue makes sense
Where can I buy these butt caps for my babolat aero storm 4 1/4 & wilson ncode n6 4 1/4? Do you ship to Malaysia? The current butt caps on my racket just disintegrate already ☹️
Hi, really like you videos. I have a question. I play with Pro staff 315gr (bought it 2018). If I want a slightly more forgiving racket, what racket do you suggest? (started playing in the 80s)
Gustaf Hesselman NP. I used prostaff for a long time. I don o why but those new pro staff are so unpredictable. RF is better and heavier. Babolat these days are very stiff and they ruined the aero pro drive.
I've recently switched out to the Prince phantom 100x 305 after seeing some reviews from numerous channels. Very easy to play well with. Recommend a demo!
hope they never want another butt cap again for the life of the racquet cuz that epoxy is definitely going to hold on for dear life lol are the staples alone not enough? or did you just get tired of hammering it in like you said?
I use a Pro Kennex. I get upset and bang the racket on the butt cap. Pro Kennex does not sell Butt Caps because they say the racket is made as one piece. What do I do ?
So normally I’ve used just regular super glue and saw this video and bought that proxy stuff and it sucks, after more than 24 hours it was still not dry enough I decided to just go ahead and play with the racquet and it kept leaking out from the cap making my palm sticky, I had to use my towel to keep wiping off the access between points, next time I’m using super glue or gorilla glue something more instant.
Definitely don't try to put new staples in the replacement cap, more holes will weaken it, potenturly the bottom end could break when inserting, or break off if dropped. When gluing the cap, It's a good idea to scratch the inside with sandpaper, it gives the glue a better key.

It’d be great to see a video on grip size reduction. The old fashioned way, sanding down the handle and measuring accordingly so it’s accurate.

I agree because it would be difficult to pop the butt cap now to add weight in the handle.
You just got to shake your head when you see a guy dump a bunch of two component epoxy into a butt cap. I wouldn’t trust him to walk my dog.
ferzy09 people enjoy that protruding buttcap that makes gripping more stable
i agree he seems a bit "slow"
Yeah this is madness
I'm here to see what you do with those staples, thanks for the good advice!
Thank you for uploading!! This was helpful!
cheers Thomas
Great man he knows his suff about tennis

There was silicone in the handle
Only works if the handle is completely hollow.
finally got my hands an RF97 (1st release) and Im dialing in my setup...this BUTT CAP HAS GOT TO GO ASAP!
BOTH of my Wilson Blade Lite models had loose butt cap problems and the company refused to do anything or make it right. I will never buy Wilson racquets again. Thanks for the video to do what the manufacturer should be doing for a $200 plus frame.

Could you please also do a vid on adding lead tape?
Great video mate, love your content !
talk about the pure drive!

Wow thanks my butt cap literaaly came off and I wondered how to fix

I personally like them sharp. And one over grip straight to the wood…
Tennis Spin, can you get in the Yonex butt caps with the trap door? I have an old Super RQ 700 To Long that has the old style butt cap and I think it's been cracked since I bought the racquet. Thanks for the upload👍
A tiny wood screw works as well and easy to take on and off
prostring v3 is out you should do a review
Can you make a pure strike 16x19 review please?
Do you know if the Blade 98 butt cap fits the Pro Staff racket? The pro staff buttcap is to sharp

Thanks for the vid 😎
Multi purpose awl. 😆
It's a pain in the butt job...say no more!!!
have you ever extended a racquet DIY?
Hello..yes xtp butt cap does it..thx.j
Hello..yes XTP butt cap does it ..thx.j
Looks like the grip hasn't been put all the way on the handle which may be why people get blisters.
Still feel the corners though. But you're right. Still...
Do you know how to make the handel thiner? (I hace 2 raquets in 4 1/2 and i want it in 4 3/8)
Will Wilson clash’s butt cap fit in my pro staff countervail (same grip size)?
Hi Tennis Spin, is it possible to put a butt cap of one brand on a racquet of another brand, given the same grip size? For example, putting a Head butt cap on a Wilson racquet
Now this is a professional job. I always wanted to do my RF97As. Now I need to find a few Wilson buttcap.
www.ustaproshop.com/product/1147/wilson-racquet-butt-cap
Jay Yeasmin done. Thanks a lot !
@@michaelp9061 awesome, good luck!
They do it on pro staffs because people are buying them mostly for their museums, and those angles look crisper? :-)
My racket grip is 2 but the butt cap is thick i don't love it.
Do grip 3 rackets have thinner butt caps?
Wilson use these garbage butt since Ncode 6.1 tour and never changed. They should a used the regular ones.
its been with the prostaffs since the original 6.0

When are you going to review the Wilson Pro Staff Autograph?
I had to change one on a thrift shop wooden racquet find. Been chewed by the previous owner’s dog. It was a pain to say the least.
Hi, really like you videos. I have a question. I play with Pro staff 315gr (bought it 2018). If I want a slightly more forgiving racket, what racket do you suggest? (started playing in the 80s)
Gustaf Hesselman Yonex Vcore or ezone. Stay away from cheap junks from Head.
Michael P super thank you, will try it right away. Take care

Michael P ok, I’m actually looking forward testing yonex been playing Wilson and babolat for some time.

do these fit on a yonex handle?
Where can I buy one in canada?
been trying to do this butt grip size 4 is out of stock now rip
Can you use superglue?
The old red wider bottom butt caps help people grip and hold the the racquet and butt cap with a lower hand grasp.
You over killed it with the amount of epoxy!😂 just saying
The red butt cap is supposed to be compatible with the sony smart sensors.
Hi, does it matter which butt cap I replace it with?
Man! You better use some clamps or wise to hold the racquet, before you poke yourself with those cutters one day!
Ummmm, how do you get the epoxy in the butt cap off
And what if you want to customize like this customer already had withwait or silicone inside the handle after you epoxy the butt cap
Definitely don't try to put new staples in the replacement cap, more holes will weaken it, potenturly the bottom end could break when inserting, or break off if dropped.
When gluing the cap, It's a good idea to scratch the inside with sandpaper, it gives the glue a better key.
Hate that butt cap also, had to always switch out to the Juice/Six-one butt cap.
I’d remove the buttcap off the 2013 black blade because that buttcap way too thicccc(seriously)
They do it to sell buttcaps.
Is e6000 instead of epoxy good?
