How do I turn this old and not have actually listened to Rickie Lee Jones .. I heard the name, never listened .. Just listened to Danny's All-Star Joint. First I ever listened .. Hell it's just perfect!
Lucky you. You have a feast awaiting! Her first album is flawless ruclips.net/video/6kzarqaZ5EQ/видео.htmlsi=YKFdRox3NazcXOa8 and others are great too. Check out Last Chance Texaco.
Brilliant! The dynamics and emotion spoken is beyond words. The pianist profoundly tapped into the deepest realm of feelings possible.A magnificent performance, just timeless.
It is a magnificent performance. For those who haven't had the experience (which would be most of us), it might be difficult to image how privileged the pianist likely felt to have that opportunity, however impressive his resume. It's a rare and wonderful thing to be able to engage in such an intimate musical dance with a singer as uniquely creative as Ms. Jones.
I don't know but I think I'm becoming "nostalgic"...saw her in Paris something like 1989....saw her again at Salle Pleyle Paris, discovered her when I was just 18 (40 years ago) saww her again at Les Bouffes du Nord Paris ...still the same emotion....
Shit..... I am sobbing over here.... I first saw this when it came out.... every time I listen, I gotta cry. I LOVE RLJ...too bad the 30 seconds that Mike gives her at the beginning isn't in there. His improv was beautiful.
Michael Ruff has performed with artists such as Chaka Khan, Lionel Ritchie, Bonnie Raitt, Rickie Lee Jones, David Sanborn, The Winans, Andre Crouch, Crystal Lewis, Carl Anderson, Brenda Russell, Kenny Loggins, Randy Brecker, Gino Vannelli, Jose Feliciano, Right Said Fred, Nancy Wilson, Diane Schuur, Eric Burdon, John Lee Hooker, Stevie Nicks, Cyril Pahinui, Hawaiian Style Band, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom, and many others.
I guess I can see why he has such a resume. He did a beautiful job feeling where Rickie was going, even though it seemed almost unpredictable, as she channeled such a range of emotions.
@@MarkGoldfain Oh, he was just ahead of the curl all through the song. That's not just musicianship and artistry, it's also magic. I've never seen anything quite like it.

...Better late than never!! I heard the first album in 1979, and was hooked.

Saw her live in the 80's. What a consummate performer.
The best. Love RLJ doing this song. Heard it on live at the Volcano first. It hit me like a sledgehammer and I've been hooked ever since.
My favorite song, she does a great job on it.

I saw Rickie Lee Jones in concert years ago. Maybe after Pirates. She was wonderful.

That was beautiful. She has heart and soul.
She’s a pop/jazz artist at heart.

So much emotion and intensity when Rickie sings...makes me feel a certain way
That was so deep ✨

This is moving beyond words
My God! So beautiful!
damn, that piano player is something else!
He's right there with her! Wow!
Understatement.
He almost fell off the bench! 😀
Grandissimo il pianista.
The whole history of jazz singing in her.
Wonderful
Just beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Quintessentially Rickie...
I don’t know if this is the best version , but to me, it is the most moving one.
This is Beautiful
Heartbreaking
sorry kids, this is not Randy Kerber. This is MIchael Ruff. Mr Kerber played on the recorded tracks only.
Mr. Ruff is mentioned correctly in video description, but thank you very much for your kind comment :)
Amazing. Read her book. Last Chance Texaco.
Unreal.
Wonderful.
Sweet Jesus
Amen!

Hi guys. pretty sure this is from Live in Paris concert
She looks so high but still unbelievable with her phrasing and choice of notes.
what a ridiculous thing to say. Never high on stage.
@@rickieljones5575 Rikkie, thank you, thank you, thank you, for enriching my life with your work!
@@rickieljones5575 Michael Ruff. Scared shitless. And sooooo good. With a mustache. Gotta love him. :-)
RLJ We are so bless to have you true artist on ever level on 🎆🌍🎩🎆
Yeah, I think this was during her few (admitted) years of heavy drug use.
Like an alleycat yowling behind my house....
@LazloMortimer Yeah... nobody knows who she is... she's THAT good.
Dumb - I’m guessing you don’t play an instrument
I would pay to live there.
