I live in Albany, Western Australia. Professional squid fishermen here all use squid spikes. Most use herring as bait (Tommy rough). They are allowed to put out a huge number of baits at the same time. Each is held up by a float, generally the rubber kind used on the top line of a net. At least here, the baited spikes out-fish jigs by far. Plus catching herring is also heaps of fun. Don't much bother fishing for much else anymore. Southern Calamari taste too good! Well except maybe for King George whiting, but you really need a boat to catch them. Squid and herring from the shore are easier and kinder on the budget.
Hey dude, I’m a new subscriber. This video was very amazing. It also help me make my decision on what I would like to do as far as my next fishing venture. I am now I’m going out to purchase a kayak. Thank you. Look forward to more of your videos keep up the good work.
I went out on a kayak to Mornington 2 weeks ago and I caught 2 little squid. I was so happy because I never squid before . I been watching ur videos and you showed me how to fish squid. So thanks you
Thank you for sharing. I don't know if it's a "Heads up" or not, but when using full bait fish I always let the float sit against the bait and put a line stopper about 10ft up the line. This does two things......1) allows a good cast and 2) ,when the squid takes the bait you can strike without the float interfering. Cheers.......
I have been watching and following your squidding videos for more than 3 years now starting from when you were fishing at San Remo pier countless times. Your vids are very informative, entertaining, easy for the eyes to watch and helpful. Sorry only took now to subscribe.
What a nice squid fishing Nev Here in Greece the lure is better than the bait ,but some times the bait makes the difference . Thanks for sharing my friend
Well done mate another cracking video! The white fluffie designed by gancraft is one of the best and I stand by that call! Keep up the good work! Enjoy the next 2 months down that way plenty of monsters to come!
Have you considered putting the squid spike on backward, or tying your mullet on with string or twine, with the prongs sitting where the squid bite? We use string for tying bait on for salmon and sturgeon. Squid here are much smaller and come in schools from a dozen to many thousands. Puget sound.
Hey Nev- Try weedy whiting on the squid stick one of these days if you can catch some...they like the shallower waters arounds rocks, weedbeds and jettys -whyalla was my fav jetty to catch em. Tried em on squid and killed em.
Great video again Nev. well done. Can you give any tips on fishing Anderson Inlet land based. I would be targeting flattys and bream. I’m hoping to be there in the next couple of weeks fingers crossed 🙄
Another advantage to a bait jag is distance, with the weight of the fish and a float you can cast a mile with a surf rod which is great for fishing off the rocks and finding big squid. Tommy ruff work a treat.
haha damn that wind knot is nasty! i saw that squid 'hook' being sold before pretty cool to see being used and landed u that huge squid. i also heard squid are cannibals and some people even use squid to catch squid
Sorry Nev but I don't think I can watch your squid vids anymore. My envy and jealously levels go through the roof. Up here in NSW the first squid you caught we call a monster. Hahahahaaha. Brilliant session mate. Keep up the great fishing and content. Massive thumbs up.👍
Hi, just started looking at your videos and luv luv love them I wanted to know if you cook and eat the super sized squid 🦑 I want to see you do it if you do😊😊😊😊
Nev mate, love watching all your videos. Just wondering how do you stop the float sliding on your line ? Iv tried electrical tape with not much success & I find it a bit messy. Do you have any better suggestions. Cheers Kev.
Maybe google float stoppers, I'm sure theres some better options online. When on a kayak I loop the float through twice and it doesn't go anywhere though.
20min video of non-stop squid mayhem - love to see it haha! Great video Nev!
Hahah you know it, glad you enjoyed mate!

Crackin session Nev.
Hi Nev, mate your floats for your squid baits,do they have size ,and if possible where did you buy them.
Cheers mate
Couldn't you tighten the drag? I don't go squid fishing so is there something where you need to keep the drag so low?
if your where I think you are, I got shared at that beach about 5 years ago 👌 always use to get a few at night down there
