Was excited thinking, "Fuck yeah! Another cool diy project I could do", to "awww shit this is wayyyyy beyond my skillset, hmm... I wish I could buy it but it's probably wayyyyy beyond my budget" lmao
You can replicate the look with hexagon paper, acrylic, or plastic gift boxes. Another option is premade hexagon silicon mold, add decoration, and pour clear resin.
@@nic5423 understandable. I don't have one either, but it's only being used to pull the bubbles out of the resin. You can reduce bubbles by pouring slowly in one spot or with thin layers. If you don't care about trapped bubbles then there is no need for a vacuum.
I did a similar project like this (the one in this video is so much cleaner btw), and let me tell you it is very time consuming. The creator put a lot of effort into this and the video shows just a fraction of the total work needed to make something like this. Your main costs would be the resin and silicone (more molds can definitely speed up your work time though). I will say that if you want to do a project like this, it is very possible to do one without the other tools (vacuum chamber, blow torch, belt sander). There are resins with low bubbles and easy to work with, just do some research. Overall it makes the catan experience way more fulfilling!
It looks good but as a game it is hard to visualize the different types of resources. I would have chosen to use different woods for different tiles to help out
I was thinking the exact same thing, or different stains, also the playing pieces go on the cracks and with these pieces it looks like the cracks might be larger so maybe make some custom larger roads, settlements, and cities.
That's what I was thinking? Doesn't draw the eye naturally...beautiful tho.. not crapping on it. Now we know what we would do differently, when we don't do it!
Everything looks different colors, exepct the green ones which have sticks and what appears to be.. rice bubbles? If those are not the same they should be two different shades of green. Otherwise it reads easily (as someone who has never played this game). Brick, straw, skulls, metal(?)..
This is beautiful. I love the use of a single wood. It makes the final version cleaner. Other custom boards will have beautiful individual tiles but all together they're busy and chaotic looking. This board is artwork that can function as a playable board. Thanks for sharing.
Wow the craftsmanship is off the charts good! I’ve had to make a few spare pieces at the machine shop I work because normal game pieces from my friend’s set got lost, but the hexes in this video are on another level
I have yet to actually play this game but I've watched so many of these custom Catan board videos now 😄 Great job, I really like the ore and desert tiles!
This must have taken you a while to complete. I started learning about these kinds of DIY projects late last year and know they are extremely tedious and time-consuming, and that's without the extra tools you have to speed up the process a tad. I tip my non-existing hat to you, such beautiful work mate, I had this similar plan for the Hive game.
Let me know how much it would cost to commission a set or to buy this set. I am very serious. Have you thought about how you might do the corresponding tokens?
The beach tile alone I would love to grand scale it to be a wall tile set. If thats ever possible, ballpark a number and I'll work overtime to make it happen
Wait! You mean there are no pieces? Slacker! 😜😂🤣 Great job! The other comments are right, the price would be worth whatever astronomical figure it would have to be to cover time and materials, you wouldn’t be buying a game... you’d be buying art, that doubles as a game...
@@fastcar42069 True but accidents do happen, such as with a wrist strap that doesn't properly fasten. Finger hitting a sawblade = slice. The glove rule is even more important for stationary tools, because....they are more likely to stay stationary than your limbs/body. :'(
Nice ! I always found this kind of set up interesting, but it requires you a lot of stuff to do that ! ^^" For information : if you wish to use your own board, you have to put 2 Ports on the water's tiles, not one ! I wonder if you can modify the tiles that you already made... let us know ! Good continuation !
Love this, but numbers... where do the numbers go? Need a recess in each tile to put numbers in. And maybe custom made wood number tokens in a light wood, like pine or white oak.
This is beautiful! I'm concerned it would look bad with the standard pieces and number tokens though. Any thoughts as to how you would modify those so they wouldn't ruin the aesthetic?
I very quickly went from "I want to do this" to "I am incapable of doing this".

3d print and hand paint them?
It was the vacuum chamber that threw off the idea for me.

@Mariano Vega about 50/50 recomends/searches once I clear out subs
I actually was looking for custom Catan board designs for a project I'll be doing for fun.

I would pay good money to get my hands on a set like this.
Their might be a discrepancy between your idea of "good money" and the actual cost in time and materials.
Would you pay someone for a week to create aomething like this? Because this is at least one week of full time work.
@@antharon1 I would be willing to pay what the artist says it's worth. If I can't afford it then to bad for me.
@@B10HaZaRD - Good answer!
Materials alone is about 250. Then u need the resin to set, with a vacuum so you don't get bubbles in there. U looking at a 500+ game

Finally someone who understands that not only blue colored resin exists. That is a huge Like from me.
The hexagon with the skull looks amazing!

@@mikekotek4648 He'll be fine until the saw grabs his glove then he will not be fine.
explain this to a noob? why would gloves get "grabbed by the saw"? your hand shouldnt be that close to the blade anyway

How do you get the resin to come out so clear? In my projects, they tend towards yellow, rather than clear. Would love your advice!
Thats because you use a cheap epoxy probably, all epoxy resins differ in what colour they have in the end. Many of them are slightly yellowish.
I made I set out of resin and Filment and took me over a month to print and paint and other stuff it a lot work to do a project like that
Amazing!
Never use gloves with any stationary equipment like a saw because they can snag or get caught. Otherwise, great looking board. Nice work!
I had this game and it.s incredible.
Awesome! What's the background music? I really dig the vibe.
