- Join us for a walk in Sidmouth, Devon. Our walk starts at the top of Jacob's Ladder, by the Clock Tower Cafe situated within the beautiful and historical Connaught Gardens. From here admire the outstanding views of Jacob's Ladder beach. We take a wander around Connaught Gardens, opened as a public park in 1934. We then descend to take a look at Jacob's Ladder beach.
Jacob's Ladder is a series of wooden steps leading from the beach up to Connaught Gardens - which provides beautiful views of the coastline below. Jacob's Ladder is the sandy, western end of Sidmouth's town beach, which is mostly pebble. It is ideal for young children, there is a large expanse of sand and plenty of rock pools at low tide.
Our walk then takes us along the Millenium Walkway which passes beneath vivid red Triassic sandstone cliffs scoured and sculpted into fantastic shapes by the passage of ancient rivers. We then reach Sidmouth town beach, a beautiful expanse of sand and shingle beach, perfect for families to spend a day and surrounded by awe inspring cliffs that make the beach feel very secluded. Sidmouth is known as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. We then walk the entire length of the Esplanade which runs the full length of the beach, alongside majestic cliffs and regency buildings.

We have a Jacobs ladder here too, but it’s not as nice looking, rather just a large wooden staircase in the woods. This place is incredible, I love the stone work and the old architecture. The gardens are beautiful and so are the occasional ocean views.

I visited The stunning town of Sidmouth yesterday and the scenery of the cliffs were amazing on the jurrasic coast and orange sandstone and spent 3 hours here and the pebble beach was beautiful and clean i went on the beach twice and had a long paddle in the sea and then walked to the town centre and looked around some shops it was a great experience visiting and then went to Seaton afterwards

Thanks for video. With my family we stayed in a hire house 2 summers running in 1981/2. Houses on left at 38.20. In June 2020 the beach looks as though it has dropped a metre or 2 from when I was there. Places change.........

So lovely and peaceful, and not a single American screaming at the top of his lungs for no reason at all 😁 Believe it or not, I actually like ear-wigging in on people's conversations. When you are an ex-pat you grab any piece of home that you can get, even if it is just a couple of old biddies having a chin wag :) 37:49 that bird is me the morning after a big night out 😵🤮

Just returned from a March day trip to this place. Unimaginable that the beautiful footage was 3 or so months into an apparent pandemic. Stunning scenes of blue skies and traditional bathing and ice creams. Why did you spend so long in Connaught Gardens?
