    Thanks for the follow up. I totally agree on the controller and the speed limits , I've just swapped my system out for a Grin phase runner with pedal torque sensor. Great bike to ride and now I've taken ownership of the electronics I'm in control of all the settings.

      Very good. I recommend the Grin. A well worthwhile investment as it can fit inside the existing housing. Well done.

    Theres a combination you can do by holding the breaks and throttle in turn it on and wait for a flash. Something along those lines to change the restricted speed settings, people have RUclips videos showing it

    Can you get 60miles on a single battery using the lowest power setting.i have a regular 60mile journey I’m looking to ditch the car for. I would be looking to use it in full power USA mode.

    • @stevemccormack9948

      @@paulcanton9827 60 miles? No. I have measured it many times. For a 200 lb payload at pas2 (18mpg) you get 40 miles. Which is very good. Pas1 would give you more but at 12mph which is slow. Not good for a very long commute. And at any rate you don't want to spend so much time on the saddle.

    On these bikes I think it will be worth adding a torque arm fitting to the rear wheel spindle. It is the torque reaction on and off all the time that is loosening the wheel nut so threadlock ( although better than nothing) is going at the symptom rather than the cause. I think it will be easy enough to implement on the brake disc side and use the sidestand bracket bolts as the stay. How do you find the mudguards when it's raining ?

    • @stevemccormack9948
      @stevemccormack9948  2 месяца назад

      You can is buy that from Radrunner website. It used to fit on the original T1 perfectly. For the revised version you see here, you will need to melt the bottom of the plastic with a blow torch or a hot gun in order to morph the shape slightly. The plastic is pretty hard. It has been a useful item for carrying stuff. The cupholder at the top was not very well though out. Cost is 100 Euro

    Great vid thanks. Couple of questions if you don't mind; how do you tell how much charge the battery has, the new bike is limited to 15mph can't it be unlocked? I've heard the new ones aren't as fast but can do 20+ and have a smoother peddle assist / take off. Also is the throttle progressive or more of a switch? Thanks again.

    • @stevemccormack9948
      @stevemccormack9948  Год назад +1

      Best way to tell the charge state of the battery is keep a volt meter handy. With the battery out, measure its terminals with the meter leads - 44.6V(0%) to 54.6 (100%).The new bike is limited to 15 mph but you can disable it so as to go faster (to 23mph) with throttle only. To do this - hold down both brake levers+throttle+power on button. The bike will switch on and it will flash on the display. Hold it like this for 10 secs. Let go of everything. Turn it off and back on again. Keep in mind that peddle action will cut out the effect of the throttle. So to use the throttle you have to stop peddling.

    Hi Steve I see that rad has come out with a different console, with a flat locking top. Do you think it would fit the T1?¿ Cheers

    • @stevemccormack9948
      @stevemccormack9948  Год назад

      I see that - the Console 3. The top is better designed than the old one. I notice there is just one mounting screw on the bottom rail. I did not explore to see if you need to drill a hole there for the Fiido T1 or not but its not difficult. Keep in mind if you have the Fiido T1 replacement bike the profile for the frame is a bit different. When I was transferring the console box from the original T1 I had to use a heat gun to soften(melt) the floor of the box to change the shape. It was tough old plastic so it was a bit of a wrestle. Might take 30 mins. I am assuming the new box uses the same plastic. If I didn.t already have the console installed I would get the new one.

    The cable to the rear wheel should exit downwards, water can enter the engine via the cable

  • @Smaug1

    Looks like it only really needs a front fender that comes down further. That one doesn't look like it would keep mud out of your eyes.
    15:00 - You're right, 25 kph (15.5 mph) is really pretty slow. Here in the USA, The Powers That Be chose 20 mph as the max speed of our lowest class of eBikes. The rationale was that this is a speed easily attainable to an athletic person on a lightweight road bike. Since the intention is to make these equivalent, what is the point of making them slower than a purely mechanical road bike?
    Here in the USA, we have a three class system:
    Class 1 = 20 mph maximum assisted speed. No throttle option.
    Class 2 = 20 mph max. electric speed; assisted or throttle
    Class 3 = 20 mph max. on throttle, 28 mph (45 kph) max. on assist.
    Class 1 bikes are allowed on all bike trails, as they are considered equivalent to a mechanical bike.
    15:35 - re. "10 lbs. heavier than what I would like." Forgive me for asking, but how heavy is the engine? (you) How much weight do you add with all your cargo? A lot of cyclists here are counting ounces, but the rider himself is 30 lbs. overweight. :-D I hold myself responsible.
    16:40 - I've read (can't remember where) that keeping the battery in the 20-80% range typically will result in the battery lasting 3X as long. When you know you are going on a longer trip, charge it to 100% no more than a day in advance and use the entire charge; you'll be fine. This is not an everyday occurrence, so it won't have a notable impact. More later; got to run.

      The central console box is available from the Radrunner website. Cost is €99. On the original T1 bike it was a perfect fit. For the revised T1 you need to use a heat gun at the bottom of the box to morph the shape a little. Cup holder feature is useless but I use it for storing locks etc. Also it is storm proof - very dry and even great for documents etc.

      @@stevemccormack9948 there’s a few articles wrote on it back in September ish time. Anything over 25kmph or 250watt motor will be a new class of transportation. Requiring license, registration, tax and insurance. There working on the administration for it I believe. But it is going to take longer than that I would say. There are definitely trying to put something in place. I am 5'10". When I stop at traffic lights I normally jump down on one foot so I can easily manage the centre console that way. If you are much smaller than that the centre box might be a problem. But bear in mind that the box can still be lowered on the new T1 by about 1/2 inch lower than what you see it here on the video - I would need to melt the plastic floor more in order to morph it into shape for the new T1. On the original bike it was easier mounted, though on the new bike it sits lower overall by about an inch
