  • ButtsBees guide to using old flower pots for mini mating nucs.
This phase of the project is about 30 minutes once the materials have been gathered.
The length of the top bars and accompanying comb guide, string or wedge, is dependant upon the size of the flower pot.
The thickness of the top bars is about 1/4".
The hacksaw blade is a simple steel cutting blade.
The ring of staples acts as a stop for the #8 wire bottom to set above the drain holes.
This video will be followed by another; ButtsBees guide to shaking and spliting bees and queens for the mini mating nucs.
    Thanks

love the flower pot idea!!! do you have to have both wedge and string in order for bees to draw out the bomb or did you find either one works just fine????

We use a 4oz glass canning jar with a sponge placed in the bottom of the flowerpot. We do not feed pollen to nucs. We do feed 1:1 H2O/Cane Sugar.
