    The Rattler is possible the coolest vehicle in the line. Seeing the 3 planes flying across the screen just a few minutes in to this episode. Love it. A great episode guys. And a good journey Steve. Burg

    I have such a memorable experience during the Christmas of 84. All month long I kept asking for the Rattler for Christmas, and telling my parents that is all I wanted. And I can recall that morning to this day. unwrapped as Santa never wrapped presents for us. and walking around the corner and seeing the Rattler box/box art under the tree left such a memory imprint on me. I played with that Rattler or a very long time and played hard with it for it not to survive my childhood. I still have Wild Weasel to this day and of course another 84' Rattler from ebay. Fantastic episode fellows.

    The Rattler is the first Cobra vehicle I ever played with and is neck and neck with the Moray as my favorite Cobra vehicle of all time (the Night Raven is a close 3rd).

    As a kid, that was the toy I wanted most. For it's price at the time (IIRC $25, before tax), it came with a lot of stuff. It was also fairly small, so if you didn't have a lot of space, it was a good toy to have. The only weakness that toy had was its landing gear, which was notoriously easy to break, & to a lesser extent the Cobra stickers, since they'd peel off the rounded parts of the missiles/rockets/bombs.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  9 месяцев назад

      Good point. We didn’t really have a go at the stickers. I find the mold is so detailed with rivets and lines and grilles that you have to be creative about placement or you’re going to have lots of bumps and lifting!

    Great episode boys. Love the call back & topic of vintage 3 3/4” goodness. And yes I do recall delivering a good portion of Paul’s Tiger Force squad that glorious weekend in Chattanooga. Love hearing the story of Barts negotiating skills. Cheers!

    The Rattler has made its name in Cobra. I have only two, though. I'd like two more, to complete Wild Weasil's squadron.
    I also have the Tiger Rat, but got outbid for the A-10 Thunder Bolt. I also regret passing on that Power Glide cross over con exclusive.

    So, I’m sure you guys are aware, but there’s actually a Transformer called Viper based on the Rattler.
    There was an A-10 guy called Powerglide. He’s had updates throughout the intervening years. In Combiner Wars, they made him an Aerialbot, which means he’s part of a combiner team.
    However, he shares an inspiration with the Rattler, so he got a new head designed to resemble the Wild Weasel helmet, and a new deco, and Viper was born. Viper very much fits the Rattler aesthetic while still being the standard A-10 design. He does lack the chin gun, a result of not having Powerglide’s head, but he’s definitely one of the better crossover characters.
    In an added bonus, as a result of being that specific era, he has ball jointed arms, so he can rotate the wings, and since Powerglide also formed a gun for his team’s combiner, so does Viper. It’s designed for guys who stand around a foot tall, so he’s a bit big for most Transformers, but I’d recommend him for display with either the HISS Megatron or Soundwave. He is out of scale to the Joes (he’s actually about the same size as a Joe himself) but… they’re toys.
    Viper even has the winged Rattler Cobra emblem, and it has the Decepticon logo in it.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  9 месяцев назад

      We totally neglected to mention Viper… thank you so much for picking up our slack with such a detailed comment! I hadn’t realized he formed a handheld weapon… can MegaHiSS wield him?

    • @barryevans9486
      @barryevans9486 9 месяцев назад

      @@gijoburg He should. You should be able to Google either his or Powerglide’s gun mode. I don’t have either in front of me at the moment, but it’s basically the jet mode, except with the wings pinned like his robot mode, and the front landing gear forming the grip. If you notice, the tail has kind of a barrel on it at the end. The engines slide back and form two more. He also has a skirt you flip up to make a scope/rangefinder lens and side mounted missile launchers on the undersides of his arms which face forward in the gun mode.
      Powerglide actually also combined into his team’s big robot’s gun, but that’s not part of this. The landing gear on him is a 5mm post, which is pretty well universal for Transformers, so Megs should be able to hold him pretty well, at least on the non-fusion-cannon side. Not sure how the Joe Transformers scale to the other guys, but Viper’d probably be a bit on the large size, definitely a two-handed gun.
      Come to think of it, I think they stole a Transformer gun to put on the Starfighter version of the Stellar Stiletto…
      Also, don’t know if you’ve heard any rumors, but apparently the next Joe TF is Prime as a Mobat.

    • @barryevans9486
      @barryevans9486 9 месяцев назад

      @@gijoburg also, to clarify, the Combiner Wars versions.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  9 месяцев назад

      @@barryevans9486 gosh! That’s the only version I was aware of; they did another Viper?

    • @barryevans9486
      @barryevans9486 9 месяцев назад

      @@gijoburg no, but they have done a few Powerglides. If you can’t find a gun mode for Viper, he has a new head, it’s the same body.
      … he’s not the first Joe TF crossover guy though. Somewhere around Energon, they did a Decepticon who turned into a Snow Cat. His name, in an exceedingly original choice by Hasbro, was Snow Cat.

    Really enjoying this; especially looking at three different Rattlers. As modern Joe guy, I understand the frustration of 4 inch Joes not fitting in the vehicles they come with (Leatherneck in beige awe striker? Not happening). That Tiger Force design is so rad though.

    The Grumman F-14 Tomcat has served with the United States Navy and the Imperial Iranian Air Force, then the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force after 1979. It operated aboard U.S. aircraft carriers from 1974 to 2006 and remains in service with Iran. Rumor has it that the F14s have been seen as late as 2022 in the Iranian Airforce.

    21:32. I heard there are still dogfights over Ukraine atm. But anyway, that is what I love about Cobra. Like the Brotherhood of Nod from the much later video games; it is a hodgepodge of underarmed backwoods guerrilas with AKs and outdated surplus and salvage fighting alongside elite commandos and future tech even the Joes don't have. I guess that is why I did not begrudge Cobra-La, the space aliens, Mega Monsters, etc in the later years. Because they were pushing the envelope at both extremes (not GI Joe EXtreme mind you) even in their earliest days in the comics, cartoon, and ARAH toy line.
    Now that I think of it, I know it's modern, but why no mention of the Powerglide Autobot recolor of the Rattler from one of the 2010's Convention Sets?
    34:10. Could he have fought in Rhodesia and the Congo? Now THOSE fronts had improvised old aircraft! Wow.. now I'm imaging a scenario where Major Bludd, Wild Weasel, and Gnawgahyde fought together in Central Africa before they signed on as hired guns for Cobra/The Dreadnoks.
    58:30. Thanks for the heads up.
    1:06:00. Which Pulverizer? BF 2000 or Valor Vs. Venom?

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  9 месяцев назад

      Absolutely right! Plenty of air combat happening now. I did misspeak! Powerglide is a valid entry, as is the copper coloured release from 2002 (which everyone is forgiven for ignoring!) - we just don’t have those versions.

      I think Paul was having a go at the BF2K Pulv. And I do like the idea that these future Cobra operatives all propped up regimes in Africa - but more interestingly they may have been on opposing sides!

    Initial thoughts, I have mixed feelings about the Rattler. It's cool and cobra's aerial backbone with tons of great armaments, but it was a poorly made wreck of a toy with contradictory features.
