I was looking at the thumbnail and thought that was who they were trying to make and thought that doesn’t like that bad 😭 i see the pink and read your comment 😱
That aunt may figure has to be the worst. That's something of nightmares haha. I have the leia figure since I collected all of the powers of the force figures and yeah.... She looks a bit man-ish haha.
Whaaat!? How ya gonna mention the Riply figure from the Aliens line not looking like her, when the PowerLoader ended up with machine guns, a missile launcher & tank treds? And Bishop is suddenly a cross between Robocop & Terminator!?
Had no idea they were already making figures of the Jurassic Park movie characters way before filming, I'm assuming there were already costume designs of Alan Grant and Ellie available since the figures for those were pretty close to the way the actors costumes looked. With Nedry I'm guessing he was just meant to be a generic evil Dino hunter guy until the marketing team just chose him for the figure of Nedry and only got as far as selecting the baby Dilophosaurus to make the film connection (since that was who killed him) and as a kid that's how I knew it was Nedry, along with the card showing a illustration of a similar scene happening to a random guy.
Yeah nedry’s design is really off, the kids allan and de sattler look the part but also had guns and smaller dinos but nedry was just so off 😅 i mean they could have at least given him a snack or computer accesorie
The Aunt May doll makes Annabelle look cute by comparison. I wouldn't allow that thing inside my house without an exorcism being performed on it first. And I'm not even religious. 🤣
Sigourney never gave her likeness rights to Kenner for her Ripley figure. All of the figures came with a little trading card and quite a few of them had their movie actors on there (Michael Biehn as Hicks for example); but Ripley's has someone dressed up as the action figure not a shot from the movie.
Tommy looks pretty accurate to me. In fact, a lot of the Power Ranger flip-head figures had pretty accurate faces (not all of them, of course; Kat from Zeo looked like a wax mannequin). I'm willing to give the Ripley figure some leeway since it was likely based on the unproduced Operation: Aliens cartoon, which would have a simplified face and brighter color scheme for animation purposes. If you want some _really_ off-model action figures, there's plenty of WWE and Marvel Legends figures that would qualify (Asuka and Gwenpool are sadly among them).
It seems to me like the toy makers in the 90's and early 2,000s said to themselves that because they were making toys that no one would care about whether or not they resembled the people they were supposed to resemble.
As far as I remember the figures came with a mini comic book like he-man, and the figures meant to look like the mini comic and not the movie. There were characters from the movie in the line and aliens that weren't in the movie but in the mini comic.
Great content Ed! Aunt May looks like Gary Busey with a prosthetic chin. Omg, you just said Gary Busey as I was typing "prosthetic"! Great job man! Ripley looks like a Captain Planet kid! 😂 The Power Ranger isn't that bad, I worked in a toy department at Walmart when they came out. We couldn't keep them on the shelf. Lol, Action Man Newman in the number one spot! 😂
The large head Han Solo was pretty laughable, except when you see the Nelvana cartoon from the 1978 Holiday Special, which eerily captures that Han’s warped visage.
Poor Mickey the man was big bk in the day I didn't know he was that much of a star but it all went to his head literally and he messed up his career and his face
The last one is spot on in the description of why it doesn't look like the character. For Ripley and others, maybe it was a licensing issue. Tommy is passible, same for Ripley. Also, you have to think that these were marketed as children's toys and needed something with bright colors, something popular at the time (like muscles or looking animeish, etc), or used molds that may be used in a different toyline either before or after this one is done with its run,
New to the Channel... LOVE IT... You're Killin It Dude!!! Really Appreciate Learning More About the Toys I LOVE!!! Thank You for Taking the Time to Research the Toys & Make Great Vids!!! Keep It Up Man!!
So I had a couple of different copies of that Green Ranger and what always put me off was that the Dragon Shield wouldn’t stay on. Then there’s the fact that all merchandising for GR used Titanus on the Power Coin instead of the actual Dragon Coin. Still confused as to why.
Lol I loved that 90's Aliens line. And the comics they came with would have made a badass cartoon. But Drake and especially Bishop are way worse than Ripley lol.
The Green Ranger might be on the list because you had to take his shield off to flip the head, and the shield didn’t stay on very well. I had to rubber band mine to keep it from falling off. So you’d have to keep taking the rubber band and shield off and putting it back on every time you wanted to flip or unflip the the head. They should have sculpted the shield on in segments where you can still flip the head.
One of the worst ones I think of when remembering bad action figures is "Poison Ivy" from the movie line "Batman & Robin" in 97. Poor Uma Thurman! It looks like a man and isn't even wearing what she wore.
All the submissions are at danny’s we will announce the winner next week! 🥳 sorry this took longer but its also due to me not having any free time the past couple weeks ;)
I’m guessing people don’t like the green flip ranger the most because that gold armor is probably an issue. The whole gimmick is flipping between the heads without issues. Likenesses are always gonna be off. But but that gold armor on and the gimmick doesn’t work without taking the armor off and back on repeatedly.
Amy Allen from the Galoob A-Team action figure series has probably been at the top of so many of these lists. Somebody has probably mentioned it already in the comments.
I think for the green ranger what they meant is that the suit is different, not so much the head sculpt, the diamonds on the gloves, boots are wrong, the belt should be gold, and there a lot of gold details missing, also the icon on the chest is wrong.
That Tommy figure isn’t an actual likeness, but rather the idea of his likeness. And I also had that figure too. I also had the auto morphing Gold Ranger from Zeo which wasn't as good with the gimmick like the Mighty Morphin ones.
What's worse is "Quick-Change Dorian" from _The Mask._ When his Mask-face is out, he's OK. The head-sculpt doesn't look very much like Peter Greene....neither, for that matter does Quick-Change Stanley look much like Jim Carrey. Indeed, he looks like the guy from _The Pumaman._
LOL I have a few of those figures, definitely know I have the aunt may one. Great video Ed, I am hopefully getting out to Brussels soon for some toy hunting!
Thing that bugged me about the green ranger and the rest of the flip figures was the power coins being placed on their chests. True movie version they was present but never on the t.v. version. Back to the my issue with the green ranger. They show his power coin to be some kind of dragon head if it could be called that. His power coin looks way different.
That's so funny you mentioned the Jurassic Park figure. As soon as I started watching this video, that was the exact figure that came to mind. I thought he was Malcom as a kid. I think most of those figures were inspired by the novel.
I don't know if they are out there, but I would love to see designs of the cancelled alien series. Might explain the design of the toys more. Great video Ed!
Kenner didn't have Sigourney Weaver's likeness rights, so Ripley had to look different. Same deal with the Mission Impossible toys - Tom Cruise infamously never licenses out his likeness, so they have to make the "character" to look more generic.
The mission impossible line is because Tom cruise copyrights his likeness per each movie he's in. So no figures can be made with a likeness of his head. That's kinda the reason why producers of younger audience movies don't want to work with him too, as they can't create merchandise of Thier movies.
sigourney weaver does not allow her likeness to be on the aliens figure. on the back of the cards, ripley is played by another actress and we can't see her face. all the others marines have their movie picture counterpart on the back of the cards.
Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy in Batman and Robin is a really nice looking figure but it looks nothing like her. 🤣
Yeah he mentions that in the video lol 🤦🏻♂️
Was just gonna write that
Really does, though!
Aunt May looks like a slasher villain!
I’d read a comic about that
I thought she was supposed to be Gary Busey
To be fair Tom Cruise does not allow his likeness to be on figures that could be the same with the others.
Very good point then again his likeness is on the hot toys version 🤔
If there ever was a.line of Risky Business figures,I'd want Rebecca DeMornay
This is true and Tom has never explained why he won't allow it. Maybe it's a Scientology thing.
This was also the case with Sigourney Weaver back then.

The Kenner alien toys are based off a cartoon that never happened.
Dora the alien exterminator
That aunt may figure has to be the worst. That's something of nightmares haha. I have the leia figure since I collected all of the powers of the force figures and yeah.... She looks a bit man-ish haha.
I think that the Transformers G1 ironhide and ratchet toys deserve a spot on your list. They are pretty much just a pair of walking windshields.
So true 🤣
Whaaat!? How ya gonna mention the Riply figure from the Aliens line not looking like her, when the PowerLoader ended up with machine guns, a missile launcher & tank treds? And Bishop is suddenly a cross between Robocop & Terminator!?
After Seeing Aunt May I Feel Sorry For Uncle Ben...
🤣🤣🤣👌
I’m surprised Bishop from that same “Aliens” line didn’t make the list. He looks more like a Terminator than the Bishop from the movie.
Sgt. Apone was also pretty wince-inducing with his backwards baseball cap and mustard-yellow t-shirt.
Used to have the Dennis figure. Loved it as a kid so this video was a surprise. Had no idea that was Dennis.
Really hard to top that Aunt May figure...
That’s for true and the people buying it didn’t even know 🤠
That’s not Aunt May. That’s Bruce Forsyth. Nice to see Brucie, to see you nice.
🤣
Good game, good game.
Wow ape Leia and Aunt Garry Busey could give anyone nightmares! Great video Ed!
Thanks 🤓

Another great video, Ed! When are you and Miss Laura Legends teaming up on a video?? Two of my favorite YTers
Not sure, but i would love to do a collab. Just need to find a good topic 🤓

I wish there was a Marissa Tomei Aunt May toy. Her figure makes me want action.
Any marissa tomei action figure would be good 🤣

English Tip; a lot of these characters have weak *likenesses* to their on-screen counterparts.
more like Haunt May

Lowkey an animated version of aliens for kids similar to how they did the robocop cartoon wouldve been really awesome.
The large head Han Solo was pretty laughable, except when you see the Nelvana cartoon from the 1978 Holiday Special, which eerily captures that Han’s warped visage.
They should probably start doing a 78’ holiday retro line 😅 its the only thing they haven’t done yet
Dodson, we got Dodson here!
Great scene 🤠
Aunt May looked like Ron Perlman imo 😄
Great video! Loved it
🤣🤣🤣👌
I still got the green ranger and Ripley with the power loader. Remember how they had the aliens character that dressed as an alien lol

That Sigourney Weaver toy... I had that. Not the whole thing, but still, I had no idea who that was.
I never realized Mickey Rourke was Peter Parkers aunt

I do think the Tommy Oliver face is better than the new Hasbro lightning collection figure.

Yes!! Green Ranger looks like he had a run in with the voodoo guy from Bettlejuice!! 🤣
