Did these exercises for 2 weeks and I thought I noticed some improvement. I kept doing them and I am now at 5 weeks and am almost completely symptom free. When I first started, I thought I was on my way to a wheelchair I can hardly believe how much these exercises destroyed my symptoms. Thanks so much Bob and Brad for the help!!

I have spondylolisthesis, too, and along with a few HNPs, it is the root of most of my problems. I do my home PT program faithfully, and I go for lumbar traction and stretching by my therapist every one or two weeks. My living room looks like a torture chamber!
I hate when people say that PT doesn’t work. You HAVE TO continue the exercises faithfully, at home, or it really won’t work. You lose everything you’ve worked for if you don’t continue.
You guys are the best of RUclips. You actually teach us how to improve our lives, one exercise at a time. Keep on helping those of us who struggle to help ourselves! Many thanks 😊

The tightening one, your glutes and stomach muscles, worked great and so did the "flossing" one. Whenever I feel the pain creeping up I just tilt my pelvis, squeezing my stomach and glutes, the pain just goes away, especially from my leg. You guys have really helped me with your videos and advice over the past couple of years. It's great being able to go back to old videos. If I was in Minnesota, I'd definitely be your patient, you both are worth your weight in gold! Thanks a million xx

Spinal stenosis is incredibly limiting with pain down both legs, now making Cobra pose (and yoga poses lying prone or supine) impossible.
Thank you both very much for all of this information.

Omg you guys. I was literally sitting here ready to call ambulance because I couldn’t even stand up due to excruciating pain as a result of spinal stenosis. I decided to watch this video hoping to find some relief until my husband got here. I only did that last exercise because the others have failed me in the past. I literally crawled over to get 2 towels and to try it, and OMG IT WORKS!! It’s amazing! I actually physically felt the discs moving back in their place. I’m typing this as I’m walking around my backyard almost completely pain free. A million times thank you!!!

Thanks to Bob and Brad for this excellent video. I'm 66 yrs old with a diagnosis of severe lumbar stenosis (L4-L5 specifically). I've seen three spine/neurological surgeons with the same recommendation - fusion, using screws and rods, due to disc instability. A 4 to 5 hr procedure with 4 to 5 month recovery time. I've read lot's of negative about this kind of fusion, from continued pain and numbness afterwards, to having to have more fusion to adjacent discs within 2 yrs. Since I'm having mostly numbness and very little pain at this point, I'm going to wait on fusion and try more physical therapy, Lyrica, and losing some weight. Hope the rest of you find the best and most effective solution to your Stenosis.

I’ve been suffering from stenitis for years due to my weight…plus my stomach isn’t solid I have a lil bit of a hang on my stomach which puts tremendous pressure on my back. For years it would come like 3-4 times a year. But for the last few days I have been barely able to get out of bed…and when I did it was extremely painful. After watching this I tried somE of you stretches…and I feel ALOT BETTER. THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS WAS A GAMECHANGER!!! Definitely getting a like and a sub from me thank you!!!

    Hi Bob & Brad,
My doctor recommended your RUclips channel and with this video you have so accurately defined my condition and I just wanted to thank you. My wife gave me for Christmas a memory foam inclined plane that she thought would help me when laying down and reading. But when I saw you guys use one to prop up under your legs when doing stretching and other exercises I felt like I received another Christmas present. When I slipped the foam piece under my legs my pain disappeared almost immediately. I now realize that I don't have sciatica pain, instead I have lumbar stenosis. All accurately diagnosed with your video. Thank you so much for providing help to show many people through your RUclips channel. I honestly feel like I received another Christmas present. Please keep doing your good work and spreading the message of pain relief through stretching and exercise. I know I'm going to be using this video to try to stop the shopping cart pain forever.
    Take care,
    Paul

The first indication I had that I had something going on that needed to be looked into was when I realized I was leaning forward while I was walking-and I had recently walked a half marathon, which I try to do once a year. I do have spondylosisthesis level 1, spinal stenosis, AND (just to make things interesting) piriformis syndrome. I have a great spine doc and a great physical therapist, but this last exercise was gold! I just did it (no soft foam roller, so I used my rolled-up yoga mat). Many of you’re suggestions have been so great and I appreciate you RUclips channel so much. I also enjoyed the spondylosisthesis video in which Brad gave us spondies permission to sit down if we need to, or put one foot up. I was a Census field enumerator this summer and that really helped while standing and talking to people for 15 minutes. Thanks again!

I have spinal stenosis on my L4/L5, I listened to my neurologist and had surgery. After that, my life turned upside down, my living waking nightmare started. I immediately could not pee, my urologist told me my bladder, kidney are perfect, I just lost all communication from my brain to my bladder to pee. The surgery severed all connections from my brain to my bladder, I cannot get it to pee. My condition is similar to a severe spinal cord injury from a car wreck. That was ten years ago. Now I have hyperalgesia, severe leg cramps, numbness down my thighs, both, pain at my sphincter where my intermittent catheter caused wear and tear, the list goes on. Your video is from 6-3 years ago, from the comments I read. If I had noticed your lessons those years ago, a whole load of good it would give me, but better late than never. I seek out and follow your video religiously. Thanks for the help to me and thousands of people in my boat. 👀👀👀

Well I liked your presentation on Stenosis and Sciataca. I believe I have both a herniated disc (supported by MRI) also Stenosis supported by the MRI . I find if I use an inversion machine and then go for a walk, the initial walk produces some pain which goes away before I can walk 1/2 mile. That said, I feel better sitting down. I think that I can sit much longer than I can comfortably stand. Now then...I'm 82 yrs old and just finished a stretch of PT that showed some muscles that haven't been used much but otherwise did not decrease the pain down the right leg. Now that pain isn't sharp nerve pain but more like muscle overload.

I love your videos. I was just diagnosed with my lower back pain and difficulty walking. I had MRI, so my condition is mild right now with arthritis and bone spurs causing the biggest problem. * My question is how often should I do these exercises. Every day or several times a day? I also watched another of your videos with similar exercises. Also will this strengthen my legs so I can walk longer? I will be seeing a physical therapist soon, but I'm sure her exercises will be similar. Thanks for teaming together to make great videos

Thanks guys I'm going to try that last one, it's a new one for me. I have stenosis that is also is squeezing on my sciatic nerve, I stood too long this weekend and can barely put pressure on my left leg currently, sometimes it's my right leg or both. The first few seconds after standing is agony, I have almost passed out from the pain just from standing up. I am only 41 but I have a lot of issues with my back, stenosis being a big culprit currently. I've been trying to get in two sets of 25 pelvic thrusts a day to strengthen, but it helps to have some more that takes the pressure off.

I have been researching my back problem that I have had for over ten years now from an injury. All of the symptoms you have shown are part of my life. Was told by a chiropractor that I have a pinched nerve but nothing he has done has helped. Questions I have now is 1. Can stenosis be caused by injuries? 2. Can a Tens unit help? 3. I find if I take Advil it helps for a few hours but don’t want to take that for the rest of my life. 4. Lately the biggest problem is that when I am walking around I tend to loose footing kinda like a drunk would but I don’t drink. 5. Does MRI or X-ray show this? Im just trying to find answers so I can modify what I’m doing to get out of my depression by being able to live again. As it stands now I’m good to stand for maybe 10 min.... then I must sit for fifteen to thirty min to recover enough. If your ever in New Orleans I owe ya a drink or dinner. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I'm no doctor but I have severe spinal stenosis. Mri was able to confirm I wasn't crazy about my back pain. Mine really acted up after I had a slip and fall incident in the bathtub (spine landed on the ledge). I have heard the tens unit is awesome! I have not tried though. Life is hard driving everywhere at the moment. Chiropractor sometimes helps. I haven't tried strengthening a lot of my areas they are talking about. Good luck as to I who is also suffering (muscle relaxers do help if over stimulated and kinda debilitated.)

The leg weakness with walking was a good clue for me. It's discouraging to hear but I'm thankful you guys posted what we can do to relieve the pain. Wish we could get rid of the stenosis entirely. I imagine that proper posture gives some relief but there is still some compromise due to degeneration. I was told to do Pilates for strength and alignment, so that's what I've been thinking so far as a plan. Keep the videos coming, they're really helpful!

    • @RHStamper
      @RHStamper 6 лет назад +1

Actually, “proper posture” is probably not possible with spinal stenosis. The two things that give any kind of relief for spinal stenosis are sitting and bending forward. As my stenosis got worse over a period of years, I had to bend further and further forward until I was really bent over. After a recent outpatient procedure called Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression (MILD) I am not only walking with much less pain, but I was able to stand much straighter in just a matter of days. Check it out at www.mildprocedure.com.

    • @kevins.1752
      @kevins.1752 5 лет назад

Roxy Hebb Good to hear and sounds like success if you went from a mobility scooter to walking. I hear about so many negative experiences with surgery but MILD seems to have merit for specific back pain like stenosis.

Please could you look into creating some kind of cushion that actually reduces pain when sitting? I’ve tried so many different types - even the ones with the cutout bit at the back. the only relief I get from back pain is sitting on a toilet seat. I am actually considering buying a commode chair to sitting at the computer. This takes the pressure off the bit that hurts. It would be a lot cheaper if you could invent a toilet seat shaped cushion which doesn’t collapse when you sit on it like memory foam does, and is actually comfortable and durable.

While doing the hamstring stretch, what if the stretch feels in my calves; is it okay to continue the stretch?

Wow, I tried that one with the roller. My back has been bothering badly for the last 2 days (has happened often before). Was skeptical when I started to get up, waiting to hit the point the pain reengages. Was very surprised when it did not come, and I was able to stand normally as if the last two days hadn't happened. I hope this lasts, or you can offer some guidance on how often to repeat prophylactically. Thank you.

I'm 44 & have spinal stenosis in my entire neck & back from injuries I sustained from domestic violence over time. What exercises fo you suggest? It's painful already & I don't want to make it worse any faster than it is lol

I have spinal stenosis and bulging discs at L4-L5 and L5-S1. The exercises for these two conditions seem to be the opposite of each other. Which ones should I do? I am 60 and have had sciatica on and off for 35 years or so. Now the stenosis seems to be the worse problem than the bulging discs.

In my much research of reading, listening and viewing, I cannot find an "answer". My impeded central canal has only a 25% channel for the nerve bundle to pass through. Exercise, stretching, alternative treatments, etc. can possibly OPEN or RELAX "MANY PINCHED AREAS" in the body, PROMOTING MOBILITY and PAIN MANAGEMENT. But non-surgery options WILL NOT REMOVE CENTRAL CANAL HINDERANCES or SPREAD THE CANAL BONES/OPEN THE CANAL ..... in order to enhance mobility and pain management. Is that correct? If so, it seems to me (if generally high success rate) that common sense dictates that limited invasive surgery should be an early option instead of a last option. Clean out the pipe first and then add then add stretching, exercises, etc. Is this faulty reasoning? Thanks for any help!!!!

can this be done on a soft surface/bed or is it supposed to be done on a hard surface? also does an inversion table do any good?

Your situation is a little more complicated, you may want to see a PT in person for complete assessment. I highly recommend a PT who is McKenzie trained. You can google Bob and Brad How to find a McKenzie therapist, this vid shows how to find a certified McKenzie therapist near you. They are in 40 countries world wide that have these trained therapists and likely one close to you. I wish you well.

I've been trying to get to a PT for over a month now. Still waiting for a referral from my Dr.
I couldn't stand for one minute without a lot of pain.
My Dr. thinks it's my hip.
I'm 64. Just woke up one day with my hip and leg hurting.
      It Stenosis.
      Not my hip.
      Thank you helping me.

Correct, it gaps the facet joints and opens the foreman to release pressure on the nerves.

  • @GM-cf6jv

I like these guys and watch them alot. The thing is they are real fast in their explanations, often incomplete, especially in discussion of disc herniation contributing to central and foraminal stenosis. Stenosis is no joke and can shut down your leg working such as in my case where steroid injections get me back. Exercises are hugely important and activity. I just wish they were not so jerky and incomplete and take time to say how long a person should hold stretch, how may reps and sets for any given exercise and discuss more about whether one should keep abs tight, butt tight, pelvic tilt for any give exercise. Otherwise I feel like I am watching the pt equivalent of the Fargo movie!
