Vacationing in northern Michigan has been a tradition for Zoni's family for many years. During their most recent trip, though, something happened that the family will never forget. As the family was enjoying a camp fire one evening, Zoni tripped and fell right into it. Her dad acted quickly by pulling her out and wrapping her in wet towels while Zoni's mom called 911.
Zoni was stabilized in Michigan then transported here to The Christine Wilson Burn Center at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Doctors determined that she sustained 20 percent full-thickness burns on her legs and one of her arms. She spent 35 days here as an inpatient and underwent multiple surgeries, including skin grafts. While she was here, our child life specialists and team of therapists distracted her from painful treatments, eased her anxieties with music and art, and reminded her what it meant to be a kid during a very scary time.
Now, Zoni is back to her old self. She's back in school, loves playing with her siblings and, as you'll see in the video, loves to dance and goof around. She'll wear compression garments for the next 9 to 20 months and has regular follow-up appointments with her burn team.
Zoni's story is truly remarkable and she's not unlike many of the burn patients treated at The Christine Wilson Burn Center every day. Learn more about our burn program here: bit.ly/1fgPI4W

I see all the stares and I feel like a monster now...the 14 days in a coma were the best I can remember. Kinda wish I had just died.

What are compression garments and what do they do

+kristin panaro they are garments and press your skin, and for burn patients, they help to not scar.

They help the tissue heal smooth as possible while keeping swelling down and circulation going.so the new and fragile skin has a chance to heal and grow stronger. New scarring is very fragile and can rip easily
