Hi everyone! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and listen to my story. It truly is so amazing the amount or love & support yall have 💛 james is doing really good! Damn.. the fact that she was able to think like “don’t open your mouth so the gas and smoke don’t get in your lungs” and “keep your eyes closed so the gas and flames don’t get it” all while on fire.. is amazing. I’d probably have been freaking out and completely unable to think period. That’s strength.
Its adrenaline. I was very close to car accident and in 1 sec. I could chose one of many options to avoid it. After that i couldt belive how its posible to think logical that fast

Your story is amazing and touched me so deeply, I hope you know that this is just the beginning of your story, I know you are going to go on to inspire people and do something great with all your courage and strength. Your family looks so sweet and supportive, I'm so glad you had them to lean on! You are beautiful inside and out, I'm excited to continue watching your journey! Kristina, you summed up every thing I was thinking! This young lady is amazing. I'm looking to have children in the next few years, and it's videos like this that remind me to teach my future children to protect themselves. It must have been good education that gave this young lady the knowledge and level head to know what to do at such a mad time, she kept her head and most probably saved her life! Keep up being fabulous, and spreading the word that life goes on! Take care xxx
Beautiful, strong Natalie. Your the most inspiring young lady I've ever met. Your story is a real life story... while I was watching, listening the tears were rolling over my cheeks...BUT your unbelieveble smile shows us whom you are....NATALIE SKYE...still the same person with a story to tell and a family, friends etc who love you, fight with you. As a burn survivor, it is a long road, but you will come out stronger, confident and know you can get through anything. I was 16 now 58 and proud of my survivor wounds. If you ever need to reach out, I am here for you.
Yep, especially with fire and flammable liquids. So many people don't really understand petrol and other fuels - it's not the liquid itself that's burning, it's the vapour. Horrifically dangerous to pour fuel onto any naked flame, as these poor kids found out. Much better education is needed on fire safety and the dangers of handling fuels/flammable liquids so that awful accidents like this don't happen.
youtube recommends videos based on likes and dislikes. so say someone does not like this sort of content; just dislike it so youtube knows not to reccomend similar videos.
It's amazing how in a horrible moment like this you still remembered important stuff like not opening your mouth and eyes and shielding your face and palms. I can't imagine myself not panicking
Whoever told you that having 50% of your body burned "isn't much" needs a slap across the face. Incredible story and thank you for sharing! Wishing you all the best on recovery and healing :)
We all should life is so short and you need to live you best life I'm saying this caz my life was so close to be over on a accident So yes you should enjoy your life more :)
I can't imagine what it'd be like to be covered in scar tissue. As someone who scars very easily even my thumb can be annoying after I managed to split it open with a box cutter and that scar is very thin! If I extend my thumb the scar has an annoying tingly sensation. Can't imagine having that all over my body 😖
@@tessbacon mabye that deepens on the wound. Like maybe burnt skin is harder and when u cut yourself its softer because there’s something missing? Does that make sense?Maybe but i really don’t know :/

This is my most honest reaction, but I kept a straight face the whole time like 😐 (not to be rude because I know everyone sees that emoji in a different way)
Well we follow the rules of 9 so it’s not that massive. But 3rd and 4th degree burn injuries are so hard to treat....once healed you will notice you have lose much elasticity and mobility of your skin.
The fact that you’re not angry at the friend who put gas on the fire is an amazing testimony to your love for others. I’m glad you have a good support network. Praying for your healing.
For anyone here who doesn’t know, gasoline is no joke, and should never be used to start a fire. It doesn’t just burn like lighter fluid. It literally explodes.
@@charlottetunia2810 that’s such a stupid response. But yes, in fact there is an explosion in cars... a mini one. You wouldn’t be able to drive without it 😂😂... get your facts straight
I know 3 people in my small little town that have been severely burned by using, or someone near them using, gasoline as a fire accelator, each around 20 years age difference, showing that this just keeps happening throughout the generations. Please teach your children how dangerous this is.
In a situation like that, the kids were probably fully in shock also and their focus instantly went to James who was running and screaming as instinct. They’re kids, they’re human
So many people forget the basic of "Stop, Drop, and Roll" but to also think to keep your mouth shut to prevent smoke inhalation, eyes shut so gasoline couldn't get in...to be able to think of all of that in a matter of seconds is impressive. You're so brave, strong, determined... you're just amazing. This made me cry. God bless your family, friends, and medical staff who helped you get to where you are.
@@allythebean0420 all I'm saying is she knew she was on fire, and that's what they teach you in school...had she not done that she could have been burned more than 40% of her body.
It is quite impressive, when something traumatic happens you never know what you're going to do. I tend to freeze a lot, but anyway I'm so glad she did what she did. Burns are so damn painful, anyone who exists throughout that pain is so resilient.
Exactly!! And she even thought about not running around in her heels to prevent an ankle injury. Which would make the situation even worse. This to me is the human body definitely in survival mode!! Such a strong person
She has The Most gorgeous eyes I have ever seen. Her voice is so soothing. I could watch and listen to her recite the phonebook and be utterly transfixed.
I too was in the Vanderbilt Burn ward Dec12,2019. You were down the hall from me. The nurses told me about you and James....and I prayed so many times for you both. Those nurses .... I want you to know how much they cared about you. I would ask them how you were doing and I could see it in their eyes how special you are. This should be a lesson to everyone watching. NEVER mix gasoline or any flammable thing with fire. IT NEVER ENDS WELL. This is why I've only ever been to one bonfire in my whole life. Fire terrifies me so much. You're strong, thank you for sharing Natalie.
It doesn’t always never end well. Usually it ends with everyone happily going home. It’s the 1% of the time something terrible happens. Always be safe when dealing with anything flammable. Take the proper safety precautions and always think before you act. My prayers go out to this woman and the other man that caught on fire and there family and anyone else. Stay strong and in the end your coming out a stronger person. You can safely enjoy a nice bonfire but you have to do it safely and mature and don’t take chances.
@@daveycrockett5738 Who says you won't be a part of the 1%? This pretty 17 year old was. Just because there's a 1% chance it'll happen doesn't mean it won't happen to someone at some point.. I'd rather just not take the risk than risk being the 1%.
@@meghanh2511 well ya of course. If there’s a chance of it happening then it’s defiantly possible for it to happen to you. If the theory of parallel universes is correct then basically anything you think of is happening or could happen to you. It’s like saying well I could get in a wreck in a car so I’m not gonna drive. Or I could get attacked by a bear so I’m not gonna walk in the woods. Or I could get attacker by a shark so I’m not gonna swim in the water. Or I could have a heart attack so I’m not gonna live. That last one is a stretch kinda but you get the point. Life is chance and if you live your life in fear of thinking what if you’ll never experience it... but I respect your opinion
Pouring or squirting inflammables should never be done cos the flame runs back up the stream... At most soak tinder wood with inflammable material then throw a torch on from a distance

@@oliviagauthier8351 i’m not sure but i think those were old photos/videos of him because there would be a lotttt more scarring for 80% burns and i think he lost all 10 fingers sadly :(
What makes a person beautiful? One who has the light within them. A fighter who never gives up. The realization that you can do whatever it is to achieve what you want. Physical beauty is fleeting but the beauty of who you are is eternal. Never forget that❤️❤️❤️
Wow. I had almost the exact same thing happen when I was 14. I was also burned in a fire involving gasoline. 40% burns; face, neck, chest, stomach and arms. Minor burns on my back. How you described everything, so real and similar to how I describe my experience. It has been 18yrs since I was burned. The first year was the worst but trust me, it gets better. So thankful to my medical team, my scars are barely visible now. If you ever need to vent, here for ya!
If you don't mind me asking, how did you shower afterwards? When I get small burns from the oven, it hurts like hell. I can't imagine having it on 40% of my body.
@@tdbsiddhbhedk457 it was pure torture. First “shower” was me laying on a table that had holes in it, they kinda lowered it into a tub and literally scrub debris and dead skin off. Actual showers were terrible for months. I had one amazing nurse who would actually get in the shower with me and she would count down with me before she started scrubbing. I showered twice a day for awhile, full dressing change. First few months I spent 3-4hrs a day showering and dressing changes.
As someone who is specialising in burns for a PhD , I cannot say how strong and amazing you are. I don’t think people really appreciate how strong you are, to have basically 50% burns to your body especially in the frontal plane and survive, shows your unbreakable spirit and fight to survive. You are a real testimony to what never giving up looks like. I hope the rest of your journey continues strongly.
@@marilyn.g most likely. If there wind was blowing in their general direction at the time, the majority of the flames and gasoline would've splashed onto them.
Ik im being stupid but I'm really glad she is okay this must have been hard but did James survive or not cause somehow I don't find a part in the vid that says he did? Or am I just rwaly stupid?
Feeling no pain is usually worse than feeling pain, because often that means that you got burnt so bad that the nerves in your skin got burnt aswel which is why you don’t feel anything. You were so brave staying calm and how you remembered to roll in the grass instead of run around and closing your eyes and mouth. Such a strong person ❤️
That can be true, but don't also forget the power of shock. Shock is crazy and can temporarily suspend any feelings because it is allowing the human body to react to the situation first. It's an evolutionary survival tactic, which in Natalie's case definitely helped as she was still able to focus on what she had to do rather than the pain of the situation.
@@oreninja yes shock, I broke my arm and felt nothing but was crying because I thought that it look unfixable and the doctors were going to amputate it. Lol
I had a very similar accident. My ex boyfriends brother poured paraffin onto a fireplace which exploded and set me completely on fire. I was full conscious throughout and it was the most painful & distressing experience of my life. I also felt the same focused calm in putting the flames out. I was completely on fire - but luckily the 3 layers of clothing on my upper body saved me. My legs were badly burnt and 2nd-3rd degree. My one hand was badly burnt and in the most pain from all the exposed nerves. I wish more people knew fire and fuel safety.

Guys never ever add fuel to an ongoing fire.. fuels like gasoline, alcohol, kerosene, etc .. it's like a bomb in ur hand ... One mistake can cause ur & someone else's life
We made this mistake and I paid for it. My legs and feet where set on fire. I panicked. Ended up with 2nd n 3rd degree burns. Was bedridden cause I couldn't walk. My legs got antrophede so I had to relearn to walk after extensive physical therapy. It's no joke !
I think I would be overwhelmed by bitterness and anger over the whole situation - I deeply admire your strength through all this! Your sisters are lucky to have you to look up to!!
I'll just stick (see what i did there) to lil' twigs and make a fire that is safe istead of using flamable fluids. Also more fun and rewarding that way.
For people who don't know- NEVER put a gas fire out with water. It'll spread the fire. You should smother the fire with something like sand, dirt, or ashes. ♥️ I hope no one ever has to use this tip.
@@Xteaart possibly if it's a small fire assuming you don't throw the salt from the side (if you throw it from the side the salt substance can catch on fire it's self and make it spread) but if you pour it directly on top it'll probably work but it's unlikely. If you have a gas fire it's likely going to be a large fire since gas is very flammable and explosive plus I doubt you'd have THAT much salt just laying around. DO NOT USE FLOUR OR ANYTHING POWDERY BTW that's really dangerous too as it can also spread fire.
Wow the way you handled that situation is so incredible. Trying to protect eyes, mouth, lungs and face in general.. So smart and brave! Girl you are beautiful inside and outside and I'm really inspired by your spirit! Such a brave young woman just wow

Natalie, thank you for sharing this part of your life with us. I don't even have the right words to say how unbelievably awesome I think you are; "strong" doesn't even come close, but that's all I can come up with right now. When I was in nursing school we weren't allowed to work with burn patients, but we did get to observe a shift on the burn unit at UNC Hospital. I wasn't expecting to gain many skills, seeing as I wouldn't be touching or doing anything, but it turns out I learned more that day than any other day in my clinical rotations. To those interested in speaking to me, I sat and listened to every word they said. Some told me about how they got burned, one told me what it was like living in the burn unit and about all of his treatments, and another opened up to me about how she thought her life would be in the future, once she was finally discharged from the hospital. It was a sad and painful day, but one I'll never forget. It was 20 years ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. Y'all are some of the most amazing Individuals I've had the honor to meet, and I appreciate you telling your story. I'm still working as a nurse (on a covid unit right now) but I also teach nursing in the evenings. If there's anything you'd like for me to teach my students, please let me know! I'm always looking for ways to make them better nurses, and mostly the lessons I teach them come from real patients. Reading books for knowledge can only take you so far... We need patient's voices to become better nurses. Thanks again, Natalie! Take care, sweet girl!✌️💜

My god this brought me to tears! Girl your a survivor through and through! There's another woman, who was burned similarly in her backyard eating a cookout as well with her husband, and she was accidentally caught on fire as well. Both of you have remained POSITIVE through this journey in ya'lls lives. The strength and courage is impeccable honestly to me. I'm sure there's days where you are down and feel negative about yourself and life, but remember YOU ARE ALIVE! You where pretty then but you are beautiful now! You're beautiful now and it's radiant, it's pure and holy, what the Lord has with you. That day you could not have survived, same as Tonya Meisenbach, the woman I mentioned with the similiar situation. You both went theough and endured a tragedy, but a healing journey, together. Well not together, separately but the journey and processes was similarly together, and both came out smiling! I see in your photos, from before, and the videos of you now, your smile is still there, the brightness in your eyes, and the radiance of your skin still all shines brightly. Don't let anyone get to you, don't let any hate comments get to you, don't let mean people get to you. They are jealous, they are disgruntled people who don't have anything better to do. You've done so much and continue to do so much! You have a life ahead of you, live it! Love it! (I mention Toyna (@burnedbeauty2018) only because, like yourself she's into makeup and clothing. She leads a beautiful life like your own, and continues to radiate the positiveness this world so desperately needs! I mentioned her not to go compare stories of the past, but connect together with the future. She is abit older, so she may have insight as well, with the journey she had. I cried watching her video too, just like I did yours!.... 9000k comments on this video! That's A LOT of hearts you've touched with your story! I'm sure my comment will be lost amongst all these people but one day I hope you read this! Even just for a small smile on those bad days, remember someone is out there that knows what your going through, and you have a fan here rooting for you to keep that smile going! ♡

I don’t know how or why this ended up being recommended to me but thank you for sharing this. My dad was also in a gasoline fire accident in 2014 and suffered 3rd degree burns on 60% of his body. He was alone during the accident so I never knew exactly what happened or how he felt during the accident. Before I could get to him in the hospital he was already sedated and intubated and could not talk to me (your pictures in the hospital remind me a lot of what he looked like then). He was hospitalized in ICU for 6 weeks before he finally passed away from his injuries. There are so many questions about what happened to him and why, and what he may have been experiencing. It comforted me to hear you saying that at the time of your accident the adrenaline prevented you from feeling pain. I hope that was the case for my dad too. I usually avoid stories about burn victims/fire accidents because of the secondary trauma I have from watching my dad go through it. But this was a real comfort and inspiration. Thank you. Bless you.
I am so sorry for your loss. ❤ losing a parent is awful but when we don't get the chance to talk to them before they pass and never knowing what they went through is something that just never seems to leave us. Yep, especially with fire and flammable liquids. So many people don't really understand petrol and other fuels - it's not the liquid itself that's burning, it's the vapour. Much better education is needed on fire safety and the dangers of handling fuels/flammable liquids so that awful accidents like this don't happen.

@@K42029 yes, we do. For sure. I was just thinking about how much trust we put into complete STRANGERS every single day, every day that we drive and eat out and so on. Then this video came up in my feed. Kind of conformation that I should go over fire safety with them, reinforce our evacuation plan, go over home safety and what to do if an intruder gets in and so on. Anyway, have a wonderful day 💜💜

Hi Natalie 👋👋
Last year on my way home there was a radio ad for organ donors from national registry. I made sure that when i registered that my skin was to be donated. I'm so sorry for your injury 🤕 but all I see is one heck of a beautiful young lady with a spirit for life ❤
You are the strongest person I know. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I’m so sorry this happened to you and your friend James, I hope him and you are healing physically and mentally well. Best wishes.
The only reason people disliked this is because their eyes were so filled up with tears they accidentally clicked the dislike button instead of the like button!!! I love you. You are so strong and beautiful and amazing!!
omg awww i love that

Im sorry about what happened to you. The fact you share this with the world shows you have strength and perhaps come to terms with what happened. I wish you the best.
The fact that no one noticed you at first... I would’ve felt so lonely. You are so strong and brave.
This made me cry,I’ve realised I don’t appreciate things as much as I should thank you for this and I’m am so sorry this touch my heart!
At 9:36 I had to stop for a minute. I have 4 children (now adults) and I can't comprehend the level of shock and fear that you and your parents went through. Look at you now though! You look beautiful! You're such a fighter and yes God has you. Jesus was/is with you even in the darkest days!
OMG the card that said “my Christmas wish is for my sister to come home” that broke me 💔😞
I know right? :C
wait i’m pretty lost, what happened to her sister?
@@creamsock8954 She is the sister. I am pretty sure her younger sister wrote that in regards to wanted her to come back home. Hope that helped :)
That made me tear up so much too! Such a sweet and thoughtful sister!
the pictures have me crying 😭
she went through all of that and is still be so beautiful and stronger
This should be shown to young people who disregard the dangers of fire...she seems a sensible young lady when she was going through her horrific situation...god bless you...live your life to the full...peace love and joy doesn’t cost anything....so let that surround your heart...
You are so strong. I can’t believe you did what you were supposed to. I’m an RN and you are the first person I have heard this from. Good for you. I’m glad that you have a strong faith because it shows what God can do through a person. You are here for a reason, and you are already making a difference to so many, including me. Thank you.
I demand a TEDXTALK from this beautiful, gorgeous, brave, strong, and intelligent young woman. She is such a role model ❤️
Sorry, but the word brave doesn’t fit into this story since this something no one expected. I would say she is strong.
@@aaronmariscal7983 she acts brave
I stand by this statement
@@aaronmariscal7983 she acted brave and she kept her mind straight once the accident happened and she didnt let the fact that she was on fire change how she acted I guess. She was brave in the sense that she didn’t start breathing in the gasoline and fumes. I think both words could work because she is definitely strong and brave
@@aaronmariscal7983 she is absolutely brave. For all of the reasons stated above, and many more. She is also extremely brave in telling her story and showing what she has been through. It can’t be easy to relive those moments to tell others the story and to show people photos of her throughout her recovery (probably what many would see as the “worst” photos of herself).
I'm a burn survivor as well. My burns was not as extensive as yours but I still understand what you're going thru. Same thing sorta happened to me...was with gasoline on my legs n feet. I didnt feel it as it was happening either. I panicked and just ran around. Didnt think to stop, drop n roll. Wish I had of then my Burns woulda maybe just been 1st degree and.not 2nd n 3rd. I figured it was the adrenaline but I sure as hell felt it when it went away. I had pyshical therapy for 6 months. Had to relearn to walk as my legs had antrophede. So yes, I understand your pain. Your strong.too!
@Stuart Dickinson thank you. My accident happened 30 years ago so I've long healed but I have the scars . I still to this day have a fear of fire. Not like I just wont use fire cause I will but I'm always extra cautious!
You probably hear this a lot but you’re one of the strongest people I’ve ever encountered.
those scars were apparently not enough to cover your beauty, just wow...

My Dad passed unexpectedly in 2005 and it still feels raw sometimes. Sending you virtual hugs!
i’m so sorry for your loss!!!!!
this is a horrible story and i hope GOD ks with you and your family
I am so sorry for your loss. But look, this was recommended to you for a reason, I believe it after what you said. Lots of love to you
The nerve endings in a third degree burn are burned so that is why nobody feels pain.
I'm sorry for your loss🙏🏾
I often sigh at the kind of trash I see on RUclips, but it's content like this that restores my faith not just in social media but in humanity too. I can't even begin to imagine the internal agony you felt on your journey to recovery, but I do know that your honest and brave account of your difficult experience may help to save lives. I wouldn't have thought to cover my face or to keep my mouth shut. I pray that nobody is ever in such a terrifying situation, but if they are then I hope that they will remember your words. It's moving to see that you have such a beautiful family around you, and an equally beautiful smile. Thank you for sharing this with us all; you've make the internet a better, more meaningful, and certainly more emotional place. With love, Ax
