Here are a few things I do which have helped me attain skin free from acne and radiant all day.
    - Use a gentle face wash that eliminates extra oil and cleans your skin well. I suggest littlleextra rriiceberry face wash only as it balances the skin pH too.
    - Eat a healthy diet. Avoid oily, junk, and spicy foods. Opt for vegetables, fruits, and foods rich in vitamins C, E, A, antioxidants, and minerals.
    - Exercise helps clean impurities, so make sure to exercise regularly to cleanse your whole body.
    - Stay away from touching your face often because our hands are generally full of germs that can cause acne when they touch the face.
    - Once or twice a week, use an oil or serum for a face massage to improve circulation.
    - Weekly, do a cleanup routine: cleanse, steam, scrubbing, apply a mask, and rub 2-3 ice cubes.
    - Washn your brushes and other items you use because they can harbor germs that can cause pimples when they come into contact with your skin.

The face wash helps give good moisture to your face, in my opinion, it effectively cleanses your face. Ricebberry facewash is helpful for users living in locations with excessive dust levels.

April 16, 2023 - Just got the products mentioned! I will use and update at least every 2 weeks :)
April 30, 2023 - yess I can tell the products are working!! My break outs have gotten better and the La Roche Posay cleanser she mentioned helped me to realize I had dry skin (originally I thought I had normal skin on my cheeks). My acne is not completely gone but I can tell it’s getting better
May 17, 2023 - it looks like my acne is no more!!! Though there is still a teeny bit more small bumps on my skin to deal with, and A LOT of hyperpigmentation to deal with 😭 but this stuff works yall!!
FINAL UPDATE 6/20/2023 - ok so after 2 whole months of treatment, I think it is safe to say that I have my acne under control. Currently I have no blemishes on my skin but OMG is the hyperpigmentation huge. Dark red spots on my forehead EVERYWHERE and some under my eyes.
So here are my reviews on the products:
La Roche Posay Purifying Cleanser - worked great as a cleanser!! Foams up nicely and never, NEVER, left my skin feeling stripped. I def recommend for oily to combo skin (I had combo skin)
Paula’s Choice Daily Skin Clearing Treatment - I think this worked ok to prevent blemishes.
Differin Adapalene Gel - this was def the powerhouse to clearing my acne! Somehow, I could even feel that it was working when i applied it!! Though I must say, I had to use more than I think was necessary to be able to apply to my affected areas (entire forehead, spot next to nose below eyes, chin)
La Roche Posay Double Repair Face Moisturizer - I think this worked great! I def felt like my skin was moisturized enough after using this. Tho one thing, I felt like I had to use more product than necessary to apply to my whole face. But that’s okay I suppose. Tip tho, apply to damp skin, it helps absorb into skin better.
Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen - I’m not even joking, I hated this sunscreen. Applying it felt so much like a chore bc of how how it was to apply evenly to my skin. Also, even tho I got it in the tint my skin was in, it felt like my whole complexion was messed up after using this. Actually, it got so bad that the first time I applied this, I was so freaked out by how I looked after I reapplied it that I had to cleanse it off bc of how much I hated how it looked on my face… also it kind of pills if I reapply it (in my experience), this sunscreen was def the worst part of the routine.
    FINAL THOUGHTS!!
I think this was definitely a great routine for my first introduction to skin care! After 2 months, all of my pimples are gone (kinda, bc I have acne-prone skin). I overall liked this routine (except the sunscreen, which was kinda a ick) and it worked to clear my acne.
Side note: I do observe that if I even miss one day of my routine a new pimple will appear, which im assuming is bc I have acne prone skin.
Also, I’d like to add that I also incorporated a double cleansing method to completely remove the sunscreen recommended in the video. For those who might want to know, I used Pond’s cold cream bc it was the only thing I could find at family dollar 😭
And I def recommend investing in a little hand bands (idk what it’s called) bc when I cleanser my face, THERE WAS WATER EVERYWHEREEEEE and dripping down my arms every millisecond!!

I can totally vouch for the 12 weeks of adapolene. Around week 10 or 11 I was so frustrated and worried that maybe adapolene was making things worse. Then, around week 12 I hit skin nirvana. It was amazing. Much less acne now than before I started :-)

@@barbieblue3336 I was a bit scared when I started. So, I started off using it only once every 3 days. Then around week 3 or 4, I started using it once every 2 days. Then after a week or two more (so around week 5ish), I started using it every night.
I had zero irritation and zero dry skin issues. But, I did have purging.
I may have also done the moisturizer sandwich for some of that. I can't remember exactly. But it sounds like something I would do to avoid any unnecessary irritation.

I used benzoyl peroxide for years when I was younger and it helped me more than any other active ingredients even though I didn't have a regular skincare, now I use a cream which has 5 % benzoyl peroxide in it instead of an expensive spot treatment and it doesn't cause any problems even though my skin is extremely sensitive and rosacea-prone. Sometimes on days when I especially feel oily, I apply it in a thin layer and wait for it to dry, then clean it with water and apply moisturizer afterwards.

Your videos have been a game changer for sure 🙌🏼

    • @davidle3567
      @davidle3567 2 года назад +7

This is a good recommendation because as you probably know (or will know soon), accutane works by reducing oil production all over the body, which dries you out and leaves the skin even more sensitive. Ingredients like benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are wonderful for acne, but also come with the risk of drying the skin and irritation. While on accutane, the skin is already exfoliating itself and sloughing off, so there's really no need to contribute to the process with a topical active. :-) As for keeping the skin moisturized, Dr. Dray also has a video on her recommended products while on accutane!

Dr. Locke, I was wondering if you could do a video on the standard acne treatments w their formulas and how they have improved over the years. Like a “These are not your mother’s acne treatments” kinda thing. As a child of the 80s, I grew up in the Clean n Clear, Noxema, & Stridex era, where acne products w no guidance were marketed so heavily to teens. One of the biggest hurdles in getting control over acne in my late 20s w regard to otc products was learning to revisit and how to properly use them. Accepting that things like benzoyl peroxide & salicylic acid (and using them in 2015) were not going to dry out & destroy my face, like the stuff I used in the late 90s did. Most of it was user error (for example, I only apply spot treatments over moisturized skin now) & finding the right formula (which for me is no fragrance ever in actives). Could you basically make a video explaining why those of us who are older and use them won’t just have irritation and peeling? I think it would help a lot of people bc I swore off those ingredients for so long because of past fears. Might help to re-educate folks. Thanks always for your time and videos!

i’m starting this today i’ll let y’all know if it fr works
edit 8/13: i started this like beginning of august and it’s making my skin really dry but i started using the adapalene everyday along with the paula’s choice product so i’m starting to slow down on the adapalene and i’m gonna use it once every two days and i’ll let y’all know if it gets better
edit 8/15: so this morning after my moisturizer i put on the sunscreen along with some olay lotion that has 15 spf in it and it really helped with the dryness my skin still feels a little tight but definitely not as tight and still gets a little flaky but it’s a LOT more manageable now definitely recommend if ur skin is getting dry and flaky and feeling tight from this routine
edit 8/16: i added the inkey list hyaluronic acid to bring back moisture to my face and it really helped so now my morning routine is cleanser, benzoyl peroxide cream, hyaluronic acid serum, moisturizer, and then i mix the sunscreen and olay lotion together and then my night time routine is cleaner, moisturizer, hyaluronic acid serum, differin, and moisturizer adding the hyaluronic acid has already tremendously helped with keeping my skin hydrated and it’s also a great way to fight acne with the benzoyl peroxide cream and adapalene product and helps ur skin to get used to the adapalene product much faster so i definitely recommend adding a hyaluronic acid serum to ur routine if ur experiencing dryness, tightness, and flakiness like i was
edit 11/5/2023: been a while but my skin is so clear now i added my own personal preferences such as an eye cream and stuff to target anti aging but my routine is now this morning: la-roche posay cleanser, paula’s choice benzoyl peroxide cream, the ordinary hyaluronic acid + b5 serum, the ordinary niacinamide + zinc (use it every other day), truskin vitamin c serum, the ordinary “buffet” peptide serum, la roche-posay double repair moisturizer, combination of australian gold botanical sunscreen and olay uv365 daily moisturizer cream and then my night time routine is: la roche-posay cleanser, cerave eye repair cream, the ordinary hyaluronic acid + b5 serum, differin (i use de la cruz sulfur ointment instead of this if i wanna target specific pimples and on nights i exfoliate i use paula’s choice skin perfecting 2% bha liquid exfoliant instead), cerave pm facial moisturizing lotion

I found that the only thing that works for my mature very sensitive skin is Aveeno gentle foaming cleanser, then Aveeno Calm and Retore Moisturizer then the Differin. I have tried a lot of sunscreens that not only you recommended but other Dr.’s too and even my own dermatologist and am allergic to ALL so stay away from them. I just use my Bareminerals Foundation ( the only foundation I can use) that has sunscreen in it. It is better than nothing. I liked the feel and look of the tinted sunscreen you recommended but even the lightest one it is much too dark so that was a bust. Usually my skin is clear but every once in awhile it breaks out on my chin.

So I have combination skin and I just started using the moisturizer recommended in this video last night. I’ve already been using the cleanser and was using the curology gel moisturizer before, but have been trying to get ahold of my acne so I wanted to try out the “higher end” moisturizer. I used it this morning after cleansing and toner and at the end of the day, even with blotting midday, my face looked the greasiest it’s been in a long time. It looked WET in my t-zone. For context, it’s been 100+ degrees everyday where I live for months and I’ve never been this oily at the end of the day. Is this normal for my skin adjusting to the moisturizer/adjusting to a change in my skin barrier, and I should just wait it out? Or is this my skin saying “that’s too much” and I need to stop using it? Since I use a toner in the morning, I’m hesitant to stop moisturizing altogether in the morning. Maybe I should just use the toner only at night instead of twice a day and just not moisturize in the morning? Someone please tell me what’s up!!
