The horn took all the spectrum no chance mid and bass suppressed., didn't hear a thing.
You need to attenuate the horn output to enjoy more of the music.
85% of the entire musical spectrum IS in the mid-range. That's why the big sectoral horn (top) makes this a superior system for larger listening area. It projects with efficiency into the rectangular space without wasting coverage on wall, ceiling and floor. This concept was worked-out nearly 100 years ago by Western Electric engineers and, since the laws of physics still are valid, works today very well. The coupling to the room air allows for a very short, lazy motion of the diaphragm, actuated by an enormous Alnico V magnet, to produce sound pressure levels with 1/10th to 1/25th the harmonic distortion of a new direct radiator from any manufacturer not using horn-loaded midrange transducers. Today, all of the most expensive and elaborate speaker systems utilize compression horns - the principle behind huge theater systems since the 1920s. The design of the mouth and throat of the horn varies from maker to maker, but I favor the Altec sectoral horn, because the septi ( dividers ) in the horn cavity give it rigidity to reduce ringing. Further improvement can be made with damping materials applied to the back and exterior side portions of the speakers, but that's gilding the lily very finely. I use a pair of Altec Valencias - that company's most popular pro speaker.
