It seems like it’s worse for people who talk quite loud, I tend to speak quite without noticing and I always thought my quest 2 mic was bust.. I was waiting for someone to finally do this test.. Needs a built in pop filter maybe
I agree with you on that one. It super sensitive to pops and breaths. And I believe its do to the new location being closer to your face then the quest 2, but to this day I have no idea where they placed the mic in the quest 3. In the quest 2 the mic are those super tiny 2 dots under the headset but on the 3 they are nowhere to be found. I think it could be the dots next to the lenses and maybe that why it sounds really bad , muffled and loud but I could be wrong on that.
Heard they started working on updating the mic with filters to try and make it sound better. I tested it last night and yeah I can say it’s 20% better than when it came out but still not great. I’m just glad they are trying to fix the quality of the mic with updates.
I know what you mean! And yes when I plug in my other headphones, it either doesn’t work or everything stays muted. I'm sure this will be fixed with an update in a few days.
Oh my god~ When I use the Quest 3 for singing, if I increase the background music or vocal volume a bit, and then start recording my singing (background music + vocals together), my singing gets cut off intermittently, and there's even severe muffled and mechanical sounds, electrical noise. However, when I mute the vocal or Quest 3's background music, leaving only the microphone recording, the microphone quality is surprisingly good. I believe this is a software noise reduction issue on their part. I never encountered these problems when using Quest 2, and I'm very disappointed. Is there anyone who has a solution or optimization method for this? (This issue bothers me a lot when singing in VRChat; it's practically impossible to sing for others to hear...)
Get an external mic. The Quest 3 mic will most likely never be fixed 100% with software updates. Just order the “Antlion mod mic “ cuz that's what all VR streamers use. I also use this now as my primary recording mic when in VR. Quality is way better than the Quest 2&3 and Vive Pro 1&2. So you should be all set for singing in VRChat. Its not cheap tho, going to run you around $130
it’s like how you said in the vid it filters me out on some parts but then it spikes up in others. but reducing the sensitivity down did help make it sound decent enough .
so I managed to buy a new external mic for Quest 3. I ordered the Antlion audio Modmic. it's really good and sounds a lot better than the quest 3 and 2. it's kinda pricy running you about $135 but if you got the money I recommend it. I was going to make a review video on it but I’m currently out of town :(.
It’s actually a lot better then the stock quest 3 and 2. But for the video I had to lower down the volume of the mic due to me renovating my room and there was lots of echo.
I’m currently researching for an alternative external mic. If I find anything worth getting that sounds a lot better than what Meta provided, I will share it in the description.
There definitely needs to be an update. The 3 is a bit too quiet and the 2 sounds a bit better than the 3 👍🏻

Have you found the head jack not working? It kicks out the headphones and goes right back to the open sound.

too many pops in the quest 3 mic. sound muffled at times rather than clear. its just louder but muffled. and hisses and pops.

The quest 3 mic has gotten better just a little bit (I think)
Really ? I need to go try it out now.

It sounds more mumbling 🤔 idk... But that's not better then right?

The Q3 mic is bad. I hope they can fix it some day ='(
I also want to stay hopeful but I don’t think they can fix it. So I ended up buying a new external mic for the quest 3 :(

Quest 3 mic is a lot worse, it picks up breathing and plosives a lot more.
Wish they supported external mics.
To think we paid $500-600 to get a good headset but it comes with a $10 mic. Guaranteed somebody got fired.

I got the Quest 3 as well, and the Mic is my biggest gripe. I honestly am not a fan of it.
