Instead of having Katie climb the ladder every time to hand you a piece of siding. Get a c-clamp pair of vice grips or just a c-clamp, attach it to a long enough piece of rope that reaches the ground. Drop it down to her, have her clamp it to the piece of siding, and pull it up. It’s way faster and way safer. I was a 30 year owner operator roofing contractor in Florida now retired. I used this technique daily to lift tool buckets, water keg, metal panels, rolls of single ply etc up onto the roof. I always strapped my ladders off at roof edge with a 2” wide strip of sheet metal wrapped around ladder rung into roof deck or fascia with a couple self tapping roofing screws into metal screw pattern or into solid decking. Be safe out there. Try it, it speeds up the process. Keep up the good work.

I grew up in the bushes in Lake Cowican on Vancouver Island and took it for granted. I didn't realize I did until I moved to Grande Prairie A.b and lived here for a few years. I'd love to be full time in the wilderness again. We have 160 acres with a creek and trees but it's poplar and is not even close to the same as BC bushes.

Greg, you should run to legs of water pipe with cutoffs or disconnect and switch as needed depending on water availability. The pulling back and forth of the water line is a lot of extra work for nothing. Unless there is something I missed, but way to keep pushing on.

Because of the lack of snow get prepared for spring & summer forest fires, so you should start removiing all trees at least 100' from around your place, the other item the trees should go back 200' to stop a fire from getting at your homes, barns etc.

It’s February 11 in MN and we have no snow either. Scary going out in Public as people seem to have given up on being considerate of others. Nobody masks up anymore. Scares me.
Walking is good but take it easy, you don’t want to get sicker.
Every time you deal with water I thank goodness for wells and municipal water. To me the one drawback to being off grid.
Please be careful working, you really sound awful and that’s worrisome.
Please tell Katie we all wish her a speedy recovery. I don’t think you are grumpy, just sick. Take care of yourselves. Enjoy your piece of Nirvana!

Have you ever thought of making a Y connection so either of the two water options would lead to your home water line. You could have a shut off valve on the pipes to the two water options to have one turned off when the option is not giving you water. Just an option. Really enjoy the videos that you create.

I have a suggestion. Why don't you all clear all of the stuff off of the path where you have to drag the line? That would remove your problem of having to walk back and forth to unsnag the water line each time that you need to move it. Or better yet, put in a wye fitting and run a separate line to you spring box? That way you don't have to move the line each year. Just plug the end that you're not using for the season to keep critters out of the line when it's not being used. I'm sorry to see and hear that you're both sick. Get well soon my friends.

This idea supported by a massive reservoir of my ignorance on the matter !! 😂. So admire your resilience, and persistence even when unwell. Better weather is that because of the chinook? The thing so few people talk about is the effects of the poles shifting (and continuing to shift until they eventually completely flip) on the magnetic field of the earth and the sun creating much wilder swings of weather and unfortunately eventually creating a catastrophic event when they eventually flip completely. Those that don’t know, this happens roughly every 7,000 - 6,500 years and is devastating to the climate and all the animals (including humans). If you didn’t know, the current trajectory has them completely flipping very soon and the rate at which they have been moving has sped up significantly over the last couple of decades. You can track this by the constant moving of the airport airstrips as they have to constantly renumber them due to the movement of the lat/long lines. Crazy times

I understand that hiring a professional to assess your land for best location to drill for water & drill a well is a expensive investment, but it is just that a investment, just like your tractor is a investment. Not only would it provide you with a stable source of water but also piece of mind knowing god forbid something we’re to happen to you that Katie wouldn’t be left trying to keep water flowing to your homestead. Not to mention the future time that would be saved for other projects by drilling a well & running underground piping to your home. Just something to consider & think about.

Your comment about having to fix the water and all the trouble it can be - I’m glad you enjoy your time living where you do and the extra work that is involved to fix some things compared to “city living”. You live in a forest using a few trees will thin out an area and improve conditions for the
Other trees to grow better. By clearing a small area and throwing out some grass seed
Will give a lot of forest creatures a place to feed.
You can harvest some trees and if done correctly you help not hurt your forest
Just find someone to teach you how. I have seen a video about it B4
