The class erupted, as I'm as Caucasian as they come...
The sub wasn't sure about my truthfulness...I had to think on the fly and claim my dad had been a soldier stationed there, and I was born over seas...

I remember watching this during our lunch break at work (swing shift). We all loved this skit . . . except for our co-worker Aaron. He eventually got used to it.

I have a friend who used to aggressively tell me I was mispronouncing NZ place-names - until we had a laugh at this... then he started going silent when the Sub loses his temper - looks at me "do we do that to you guys?", I could only laugh and say "yup, its normal for this reaction" lol
He now makes attempts at pronunciation, and never berates or ridicules us for "mispronunciation" of our words - WINNA!!

I love Key & Peele, definitely down for more. The worst I ever got from a teacher was pronouncing my last name as "Rosypig". I guess they their brain just couldn't process the letters in my name lol.

You guys missed the big joke at the end. When the teacher called out Teemothay and the single black kid in the room said, "preesant," it was funny on two levels. 1) being the black kid, the writers were making the joke that his parents actually DID name him Teemothay. So being the one black kid in class, he was the only who actually did have an uncommon pronounciation of a common name. And, 2) they further dug into that stereotype by having the kid even talk like the teacher and mess up the word present by emphasizing the 2nd syllable instead of the first and pronouncing the first syllable with a hard "e" (like reed) instead of a soft "e" like (red).
Aaron Rodgers introduced himself before a game as A-Aron once.
I went by De-Nice for a while after this video. Ha!

My son’s name is Aaron, and back in middle school and high school kids were calling him A-A-Ron for YEARS.
That's actually how you pronounce their names just like if you say Chris it's really ch-rice. Lol if you separate some of the names and really sound them out they do sound what the teacher calls them.

It's funny how the media can pronounce the most exotic places on earth but if someone's name is Jaquan or Shanice, they always butcher the pronunciation.
I’m one of the rare middle class white girls who feels this… I got named Meg, cause all the women in my family have insane names nobody can pronounce… momma is Vereleta; grandma edgel; aunt frony; great aunt oleta; etc… I did learn that when you have a name like that, you stop caring if people get it right. People have called my mom velveta, and she doesn’t even correct them.

As a former substitute teacher, I take offense to those remarks, Asia. We need to introduce ourselves and also lay down enough power flex to put those deviants in line. One of the toughest jobs you'll ever have. One of my fellow teachers, a fellow grad student working her way through college, said, "Substitute teaching is basically suicide on the installment plan." Got that right. LOL!
