Years ago my aunt got a Turbo R Bentley. My cousin and I were in the back seat while we were stopped at a light. He rolled the window down, looked at the man stopped next to us and said, in a thick southern accent "excuse me sir, do ya got any mustard"? My aunt was horrified, my cousin and I were laughing so hard we could hardly breathe. The guy next to us laughed and gave us a thumbs up. After that we used that line every chance we got. McDonald's drive through "excuse me madam, got any mustard for this quarter pounder"? This was when the Grey Poupon ad was running and we had tons of fun with it. It would have been better with a RR but a Bentley was close enough. Not to mention, that car was a beast for it's day.
@Genes Yes, my aunt & uncle were loaded back then. They lost a huge amount when the oil industry crashed but they came out of it better than most. I don't know how much they had but they lived very well even after the oil crash. My uncle passed away a few years ago & my aunt is still fairly well off. Wayne does kind of have a point. At that time in history, RR & Bentley were not up to their normal standards. They were still very nice cars and calling them junk is a huge exaggeration. Like you say, they were good for the 80's but the mid/late 80's were not their best years. I want to say hers was an 89 but I am not sure. My cousin ended up crashing it (he is 49yo now and still grounded) lol and she replaced it with a 560sec AMG. I gotta say the Mercedes wasn't as plush, it didn't have the detail, the leather wasn't as nice but mechanically, I think the AMG was a much better car. I was never allowed to drive the Bentley so it's possible I was just impressed with the Mercedes. That was the first high end car I ever drove. I had a 79 Honda Accord back then. Needless to say, it was a real treat to drive my Aunt's car.
@@shananagans5 Mercedes lost its plushness in the 1980s. My grandfather had a 1960s Rolls and Mercedes and both of them were beautiful with the Rolls just edging it. America cars of the 1950s and 1960s were on a par with Rolls Royce.

Just a little note about the power reserve gauge, what it is really measuring is the vacuum in the inlet manifold, as you open the throttle it reduces the vacuum when the throttle is closed the engine is generating maximum vacuum. That is the power reserve gauge in the RR (you could call it the vacuum reserve gauge)

You can also drive it over deserts and snow so people in very extreme climates will adore that. I think they developed an entirely new suspension system unlike any other SUV so you could feel like you are floating even while off-roading. But don't quote me. I would love one here in our northern winters. And in my dream world maybe the Celestial too. I loved the diamonds in the door that they spent months to inlay and it did look like stars. I saw a documentary the other day and the Pearl Diver Rolls Royce was so pretty. Such a lovely colour.
