I've had good success rooting green cuttings. In southern Ontario I have left my Brugmansia outside in cold weather (less than 5c) and as long as there is no frost it is fine.
Live in Houston. My Brugmansia's are just in the ground all the time. This year we had a horrendous freeze, ice, etc. When over I cut the brugmansias back. One is coming up from 12 degrees for 3 days. The other regular orginal gold brug I just dug up, but I think it would have also come up. Just wanted to replace with some of the exciting new cultivers. Thanks for posting. I learned so much from your video.
I hear you miss we here in TN were without power for 5 days as well but my angel trumpets were kept alive by covering them in sheet plastic and putting them in the barn with my rabbits....it got down to 9 degrees here....
I have a few Brugmansia planted in the ground here in Florida. My oldest one has become 20’ tall and just as wide. I’d like to get other varieties but can’t find them being sold anywhere.
I just discovered brugmansia this year ! How come did I miss such a plant, blooming, scent ? In fact, I was walking in a neighbourhood, saw 4 magnificent Brugmansia, didn't smell that much (it was daytime !). I return home, did some researches on Internet and find it is good to prune those plant. The next night, I decided to prune one of this Brugmansia (yes I know, practically it was a thief, shame on me !), a cutting with flower and a flower button ! Damn, my car did smell like crazy, only with one flower ! I put my cutting in water with fertilizer, hoping to keep my flower and to see the button blooming... that's exactly what happen ! Now, my question is... I can see multiples stocks in pots.... does it mean you plant multiple cuttings in the same pot to get this "bushy" effect, or is one cutting produces multiples stock by time ? Right now I can see those little white bumps growing (hope I get some roots soon). How many time did this plant take to start blooming the first year ? (how long does it take to reach the fork ?) I live in an appartment, without any garage or greenhouse.... My coldest room, during winter as at least 15-16ºC, never less than that (my neighbour under me is a old person who always freezing so she keep her appartment very hot, all the winter season and all this heat reach my appartment ! I would be able to hide my futur plant under some black plastic bag, but will this, help developing fungus ? Thank you !
I have a question. I have 3 stalks in my house right now growing. They rooted and i put in dirt. It is March 1, 2024, today. 2 of the stalks hav 8 - 10 large leaves on the and 1 has only 3-4 small leaves. The 2 with the most leaves, should i snip the top tip of plant to maybe start a fork/y growing? I've never grown these before.
I got my cutting from a friend so don’t know what type it is. Can you tell if it’s a “warm” or “cold” variety from looking at it? I live on the Olympic Penninsula in Northern Washington State and would love to plant this outside, but I’m not sure how it would do over the winter. Also, I’d like to get it to be a single trunk with branching up higher. Can I prune off the branches that come from below the soil to envelope a single trunk?
@@BarbaraButler-x3q yes, on cold variety the leaves are different and also most blooms are red, purple or a combination of both. In either case I wouldn’t suggest planting outside, the wet and cold anywhere near 0c will kill the cold variety. Keep it in a pot and leave it outside until you have to bring it in. And yes you can prune the branches but it will only develop blooms after it forks.

I am in the UK and have just bought 3 cuttings and have them in soil/potting mix in plastic bag on heat mat, they are about 9/10 inches long, how long will it take to reach mature height, I mean is it likely they will bloom this year, next year or will it take several years to reach maturity? Thanks in advance.
Generally you want your cuttings to root before planting into soil. I would rather keep a rooted cuttings actively growing over the winter in the house or heated greenhouse rather than let it go dormant…
I’m in NW Ohio. My first burgmansia was awsome. Full of blooms and the heavenly scent, I know why they are called Angels Trumpets. That was from a plant, started in seed from a local nursery. No longer able to get plants, unless they are Duranta, which self sew like crazy. Last year I purchased rooted starts and was able to start many plants in water. They are rooting like crazy, even have leaves forming under water. Help please. Do I leave in the water and plant later (I have no green house) and when I plant can I bury the new leaves.
Could you please show your "Cold Group" Brugmansia. I assume its Sanguinea, if so at what temperature do you bring it inside or is it planted in ground with protection of a winter cold frame?
i will make a video on it, yes it is sanguine. I brought it in december at around 3C. It actually bloomed well into december but then got battered by the winds. I let it go mostly dormant in our greenhouse and brought it out in March. Its a tough plant.
@@palmdaddy I built myself a cattle panel greenhouse so as to store my bigger my bigger plants....otherwise they go into my bathroom.. My son came over had to use my bathroom and said MAMA ITS LIKE AN AMAZON JUNGKE IN THERE....

@@JohnSmith-fq7hj are your brugs inside a house or greenhouse or outside? I find sometimes removing all the leaves and spraying the plant down helps. the plant will re-sprout fresh new leaves.
Okay so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, I have had three, each under a grow light for about 6 hours a day, and watered every 2 days, they get a yellowish color to the leaves, some leaves just drop off, and the edges curl up, and they look wilted, watering perks them up a bit but within an hour or two they are dropping again. Water is obviously not all used up so I don’t wanna water again, I haven’t fertilized the third one yet cause I thought maybe I was burning them? I live in NY but my room gets to about 80-85 degrees and humid in the day, and around 75 at night, I thought they’d love that?
If watering with tap water it's highly advisable that you let it sit out for minimum of 24Hrs before watering potted plants. This provides some time for the chlorine etc to evaporate. Dolomite lime in the potting soil will control PH. I can't kill my Brugmansia LoL
I almost killed my plant several times before I decided to just put it in ground and hope for the best. I leave mine in ground. I live in northern Florida. It does freeze every winter but plant comes back ever year. I will say I thought I had killed them. It can take seven years before it blooms. I considered myself lucky it only took four years.

to prevent rotting of the new cut branches, it's better you cut them of just before spring. they wil never rot

No, it will branch on its own when ready and that’s when it will initiate bloom production once the temps and sun exposure is right.

Usually in year two they will fork
And bloom, they grow quick with the right conditions! :)
How often do you water them during spring and summer?

If you start cuttings now iam here in Abbotsford Bc when I put into soil do I water it every week or let it go to dormancy
