It's sad ,do think the winter Olympics will happen, every sports events October November December in the Asian Australian region is being cancelled with 7-8 months till it begins

At the rate things are going, I expect them to delay them, but delaying Winter Olympics is more complicated because, you know, they need snow. When the budget has been kept under 10 billion US dollars, this may spark a renewed interrest for others to host the sport. It will no longer be seem as a impossible game
Agreed. Then again too many hosts just throw money at hosting no matter the cost.
Completely agree!
It may depend on how much Paris 2024 costs as well. If it goes way over budget then Tokyo 2020 will be viewed as a one off. It might change the game but it depends on Paris as well to make the games seem attainable again.
How much of their low costs were thanks to having so many already existing well-built "Legacy" buildings available? The overall cost would've been double (maybe more) if all of those buildings had to be built from scratch. I wouldn't call the Tokyo 2020 costs a one off, as any city that has already hosted the Olympics will always have a budgetary advantage over any city having to build every single venue from scratch; more now than ever, as the number of events (and venues required to host these events) keeps going up. This is especially true of cities that build quality venues the first time around, like Tokyo did. *cough cough Rio cough cough* If Paris can reuse some of their existing venues, it can potentially keep the costs down near Tokyo 2020 levels. If Paris has to build everything from scratch, it cannot possibly match Tokyo 2020's low overall cost. No first time host can possibly match that low overall cost.
Not necessarily, often times the astronomical costs are due to the construction of transport infrastructure, such as new airports, new train/metro/tram lines, new highways etc. Only a handful of cities have such infrastructure on the same level as Tokyo.
The architectural design is admirable. I like how Japan always looks futuristic but never forgets their heritage, and then incorporates that style into the design. It's great
I've been waiting with anticipation for this one!
The Ariake is a stunning building - I love the huge open space inside and the timber arch beams give it such a nice aesthetic.
Can't wait to see the opening ceremony.
The guy keeps saying about the spectators expected in the venue which made me emotional 😢
It's sad how much work and money they put into this and COVID-19 just ruins everything
Japan: we ready
Corona: oh really?
Tokyo saved a alot of money. They didn't have to build much; the city is already ultramodern with all the amenities necessary to host such an event.
@usarocks69 how can they be 16 billion over budget if the costs were kept under 10 billion

Wow, all those new venue stadiums and no fans.
Not to mention the vast number of venues, shops, hotels etc. that were constructed for fans, most of which face an uncertain future as their funding depended on the visitors.
They’ll be used for other city events/ sports games/ concerts after the olympics, so luckily the facilities won’t go to waste
@@maryrosedipiro7363 yeah but olympics were the top most revenue collecting event....now most of them are restricted....now its hard to see another event selling tickets for that price & for that many people to come for it to be fully packed for 2 weeks .....especially olympic host countries have a history of abandoning the sports buildings....

I love these new stadium. Many large new stadiums are just so large and flashy (not a bad thing, by the way), but these are large and more down to Earth, with many taking design queues from previous Japanese architecture.
Narata the thing in Tokyo is that it doesn’t need to look super fancy to be really state of the art
Yep but one or two stadiums might be turned into temporary hospitals if there are serious virus outbreak in Japan within a few weeks.
The NHS in my country, Britain, set up Nightingale hospital at former Olympic 2012 event at EXCel building in East London, now opened today. Others also setting up in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Birmingham. The USA planned to build temporary hospitals in nearly all states.

These countries have handled Olympics many times, it's expensive to preserve this event going on.
Should it always be in one location? i.e. all countries chip-in to building the best possible facilities, all on one site, and we just use that every four years? ...or is the purpose of the Olympics to spread regeneration and economic growth?
It should be be in the best hosting locations and use 5-10 different cities
