Vince McMahon couldn’t write something better than this. You got two guys who 7 years ago fought one another. One went on to become a dominate champion. While the other, who while successful was heavily under looked from his flashier, more popular counterparts (Masvidal, Covington). He fights and claws his way to a title shot, with his last fight being the most humiliating. As he was almost flashed KOed out by Nate Diaz in the last minute. While Usman, with every increasing win, becomes more famous and feared. Making highlight reels out of highlight reel fighters (got karma on knocking out Masvidal, who knocked out Askren), beat the brakes of his former teammate Burns and his arch rival Covington. And was on track to break Anderson Silvas record while getting a huge acting role in the Black Panther. Dude was going Hollywood. The entire fight Usman smothers Edwards, with Usmans side constantly reassuring him, “You’re doing incredible.” While Edwards team is endlessly pleading for him to step it up and not squander 7 years of hard work. As the fight progresses Edwards noticeably loses confidence, not making eye contact with his team as Usman continues smothering him with pressure. Even the damn commentary team claims it would be a moral victory for Edwards if he DOESN’T get knocked out by Usman, let alone win the title. The irony is Edwards finished the fight similarly to how Diaz almost finished him in his previous encounter (last minute, back against the wall, a clean hit to the head). While Usman who has been on the laughing end of the jokes for most of his fights, now finds himself in the same position as Masvidal. Knocked out, and back at the bottom of the totem pole. With Leon Edwards literally celebrating to the Rocky theme as he heads to the back. Surreal.
Tired of all the "Lucky Kick" comments. Edwards stood with Usman for 5 rounds, and to me that last minute head kick is more impressive than a first minute head kick knockout. Edwards was exhausted and that head kick was set up and timed perfectly. All the talk about "Usman was winning that fight", and yeah that was true, he was winning until he lost. That happens all the time in fights, one fighter is getting the best of the other and then I guess they get "Lucky punches" when the knock their opponent out? Leon earned that belt, dont try and minimize it. Usman to the Ghost Realm! Sheeeeee!
Nothing lucky about it. It wasn’t gifted to him from god either. The guy has put in the work. It’s the beauty of the sport. Anything can happen at any time. So happy for Leon.
Agree, if people watch it back he tried that same combo a few times and Usman should know it's part of his style, he does it nearly every fight. Like anything like that, that move of throwing the punch out there to disguise the big high kicks is kickboxing 101 & as Leon says, he has a side-to-side boxer style, that a good kickboxer will be onto big time, surprised a fighter hasn't figured it out before but probably that shows how hard it is and it takes 100s of hours of drilling it down. Like you say it's like saying when Cruz got KOd by Chico was that a lucky kick?, was holly holmes ko of Rousey lucky, was Cro Cops multiple left high kicks lucky back in the day, no it's their strength just like wrestlers and BJJ guys. By the way, Wembley seating is just about covered so all they need is a big covered centrepiece it wouldn't be bad, but it would be cold and the rains unpredictable. Either that or the 2 hours by car from Birmingham is Cardiff's Principality stadium with retractable in Wales, which is a bit closer to Birmingham than London but Dana wouldn't know that and I tell you with Birmingham being 2nd biggest City in Britain at well over 2 million they'd pack the place, as well all his fans from all over Britain, Renegade gyms always being a popular gym. If this was winter it would be awesome could have it anytime from may.

From what IV seen so far, that was the biggest comeback in UFC history. What a finish by Leon Edwards against who so many thought was the pound for pound champ. He shocked the world. Unbelievable
In terms of upset value this has to be up there with GSP vs Serra, in terms of title fight late finishes this is almost as good as Sonnen vs Silva, what a fucking way to win the title after such a streak. Leon deserves this moment, he earned it.
Wouldnt imagine Usman getting splatter like that, loses the rematch too, he fought his 100% and still didnt work. Leons striking too intelligent and precise
This is the best situation for Leon. When he gets home and calms down, he will have alot holes he can improve on that would not have been exposed if he wasnt fighting elite competition in Usman. I think Leon now has a better chance to win the rematch. Still Usmans performance was excellent its a 55/45 fight for usman
Leon just needed to throw more he was a step behind in the grappling at times but did good in the grappling it was just too much and he wasn’t letting his hands go at times because he was worried about stuffing take downs but who knows how that loss is going to effect usman in his next fight with Edwards I mean leon is nasty in striking he had a chance we just didn’t think it would happen and it did.
If Leon pressures Usman he legit wins even in the grappling exchanges. He had zero reason to give those rounds up. There's a reason his coaches were slapping him and screaming at him. He threw them away for zero reason. Leon's failure is his lack of fight IQ and killer intent. If he had those he could straight up surpass GSP.

Leon is the embodiment of "something from nothing", mad respect for the man
What an inspiration Leon is, couldn't happen to a more deserving person.
Backing that up. When I found out the two weeks wasn't enough to acclimate, I figured his string of luck was continuing. How he proved me wrong!
@@OhWell0 His performance was bad but I think it was because he wasn't acclimated curious to see how the rematch goes in UK

@@bennaq788 Usman was right at home in the thin air, and was still delivered his career first takedown and KO. Leon was losing badly for most of the fight, but he sure bookended it! I can't wait to see how Leon does on home turf!
He is inspired from McGregor
Look at me now. Pound for pound what. Headshot. I’m from the trenches. KO and post fight interview to be remembered forever. This is what I love about this sport. It strips away everything. That moment with Leon after the fight, and the moment with Rockhold retiring, are just epic.
both of them deserved those moments, it was awesome to see
Minus the, "no one has the belt" or "no ones the champ" or something like that lol
When Rockhold said Im old, man I felt that dudes pain.
Well said 🙌
If y’all think Leon keeping this belt… if usman in rematch is hungry af he’s done, if he beats usman again chimaev is next in line… good luck
It's funny how Leon Edwards was almost knocked out from Diaz at last minute in Round 5, and now losing on scorecard and hit that head kick in last minute in Round 5 to send Usman to sleep and win title, what a crazy sport it is. Well deserved Leon, well deserved!
He wasn't almost knocked out vs Diaz. He didn't even go down. He got a little wobbled for literally a second then his legs were clearly moving fine.
@@amo9979 go back and watch the clip Edward's eyes are all over the place hes trying to avoid diaz the rest of the round he was not fine after he got clocked lmao
@@joseerives3459 he was moving fine after the first 2 steps... Sure he looked at his coach and the clock but otherwise his eyes were locked on diaz the whole time. He knew he was miles ahead on points so decided to play it safe for the rest of the round instead of trading. Its a fight understanding issue from the media to think he was in trouble after those 2 steps. Being slightly rocked for a moment is not almost getting knocked out. Plain facts.
@@amo9979 not facts that's what you saw doesn't really matter but the boy was far more dazed, had nate followed up with another shot instead of pointing he would have been done he hadn't even protected himself for a good 4 seconds and then starts running around the ring to avoid nate.
@@joseerives3459 Diaz wasnt in a position to strike. Diaz was so exhausted he couldnt even pressure immediately, why would you expect edwards to be blocking at 6foot away. This is mma. Again he was standing the whole time and moving quickily on his legs. Thats not something you can do if you are even close to going out. Sorry but that is a fact. Anyone who's been hit remotely hard knows this. Wobbled/dazed for 1 seconds is what happened, then he was on his toes again, you can dream otherwise but thats what happened.
Surreal.
Good perspective 💯

That kick from Leon will go down in history as one of the biggest upsets in UFC lmao

@@otallono no, it wont, Nunes is a lot more skilled than Pena ever was, while here you have a different story. Leon is more skilled than Usman in various departments and he was losing due to his conditioning mostly (and high altitude location could have contributed to that).

All set up just like professional wrestling , there are far more better things to watch to sound great always over inflate their numbers...
Last minute of the round. He did it with intelligent intent. He set it up, that feint left opened up the roundhouse kick. Amazing fight.
That fight between Ferguson and Leech is going to be amazing.
Not really. Ferguson is washed
Tony should’ve retired after that losing streak. He’s one of my favourite fighters and hate to see him out his prime
@@tonym5093 won the first round against chandler
that was the most shocking moment in UFC History Congrats to Leon and Kamaru Usman is a real champion I love how he handles his Wins and Losses I respect Kamaru Usman because there are some dickhead champions in the UFC Usman is always respectful Leon was too excited but Usman still attempted to congratulate him after being knocked out
It’s 3 AM I still have too much adrenaline from this knockout to sleep holy shit
Leon dominates Nate then gets caught in the last round
“Leon was lucky! Nate should’ve finished him”
Leon gets dominated most of the fight and catches Usman and actually gets the knockout
“Leon got lucky! Usman got careless”
Tbh, I don’t know why he gets this hate. Seems like a chill dude
I think Leon set him up and had been setting him up for awhile. I think Leon learned it from Nate
Not really. The narrative was "unlucky for leon to get caught with that shot"
Just call it like it is. If Leon could have knocked out Usman earlier he would have. It was lucky he got the hail mary
@@lachlanm7149 I mean he faked a left hand to follow up with the head kick. It’s not like he was just randomly spamming kicks. Technically all comebacks are lucky in a way. Just the name of the game
@@AyoAD123 yeah it was well set up but definitely what most people would call lucky. If Usman blocked that kick Leon lost the fight. I'm happy for Leon but I think Usman will be the favourite going into the rematch, similar to Nunes Pena. Could be wrong though MMA is crazy
@@lachlanm7149 I think the next match would be closer. Especially if it’s not high altitude. Leon was looking good until he gassed out. Usman was destroying him with pace and aggressiveness but I think if they fight in Wembley, the cardio gap won’t be as big. But I think they’re a perfect matchup for each other
Honestly, deep down, since round 1 I felt like Leon wanted to set him up for that exact kick. I watched how he was feinting, faking and shifting his body weight on that left leg. It just made sense to me, so I guess he was setting him up just for that and by round 5 Usman had done forgot took so many headshots and no head kicks that it was a total surprise for him..
Yeah I was saying to myself leon needs to throw them kicks and go for it and then boom that shit was epic
Man… I think the same. He didn’t show Usman much for 3.5 rounds and then kicked his face at the speed of light. I definitely think it’s true.
okay sherlock,
Best commissioner in sports! Upfront and genuine answers and doesn't bore the press and public with worn cliches and formulaic responses@
Now as Khabib Said, “ Nobody will be the same after a Defeat like that “, i will be surprised if he wins his next match.
I’d be shocked if Leon wins 1 round in the rematch honestly
Edwards deserves this. This man has been patient and waiting for the right time. Perfect timing. Congrats
Why are all MMA reporters so fucking boring?
reporter: Dana can you tell us how happy you are?
dana: Very fucking happy
reporter: ok great thanks
Rinse and repeat, fucking snooze fest
I was growing tried of Marty as a champion. Congrats Edwards.
Rocky’s Headkick will be a story told forever!
Fucking knew Leon would come in and shine in this fight, he been waiting for so long and didn’t disappoint
He wasn’t shining but damn man came through with a hard FLASH
Luke rockhold showed tremendous hesrt tonight....that guy was tired the first round...still went through still fought till the end and had his moments...respect champ
I thought MAYBE Edwards would win a decision. Never saw this happening. Mad respect
Imagine being a UFC fan and walking out of the stadium a few minutes before the end of the last fight to avoid the traffic jam afterwards to leave a little earlier and then just to find out the biggest knock out potentially in UFC history occurred and you missed it
Happened to us at anderson bisping fight, we thought it was over ran to the transport and put the phone on and bisping getting interviewed as a winner lol
I loved that head kick. And rockhold is a WARRIOR!!
