- A worthwhile final stop in Albania. I sail a few miles up the coast and stop at a castle and fly my drone around and go for a hike.

Sea Urchin spines can be removed by taking a lit wax candle and dripping the molten wax onto them. I discovered this when I was on holiday in the Caribbean and a wave knocked me over and I put my hand out to break my fall and crushed one with my palm. The initial pain was like an electric shock. I went to a beach side bar and the barman just pulled a candle out and gave me a lighter and told me what to do. If you drip from around 6 to 8 inches the wax is not boiling hot when it hits your skin, build a layer of wax and wait a minute or two and peel the wax off. Keep doing this until the spines are all out. Never try to pick them out or pull with tweezers it just makes them go further in and you get an infection like Sam did.

You could also urinate on it right after it gets stuck inside you if you are in a remote location and don't have access to any candle wax. That's the most common method used in Hawaii at least. I don't know if it's the warmth or the acidity or a combination of the two but you just squeeze from below and they pop out.

Sam. Albania's waters are overfished. No catch limit, size, season whatsoever. It's a sin to release the smallest fry back into the water. The castle at Kepi i Rodon-it is a Venetian military outpost for controlling contraband merchant ships trying to offload goods without clearing customs in Drisht (up north). There are several of those along the coast. From Lezha down south. Even the castle of Kruja is Venetian military outpost too, for the same purpose. Back then, Venetians used to lit big bonfires to warn coming ships and communicate with each other. Yet. If I knew ahead in time you were coming in Albania, we could have arranged to meet somewhere in Vlore or in Durres as I am your follower. A lunch together would have been something special. Certainly you the guest. Cheers.
Hi Sam! thank you for delivering clear calm information. No click bait, no sentimentality, no infuriating ad reads, just doing your thing. I also just do my thing, but I'm autistic so I kind of only do one thing, unless other things connect to it like food and occasionally other people. Honestly it helps so much. Sam - You can connect your stock alternator to a DC to DC converter to manage (and charge) your LiFePO4 batteries. I would recommend Victron for the manufacturer of your new DC to DC converter.
I always put a kitchen towel in my dry bag to soak up any small leaks. It works great. Rob

You're killing it about Albania. I love that place! Enver Hoxha built all the defensive bunkers around the country...he was a crazy man. Don't tell anyone about how cool the country is.
Your decision to stop flying the drone when others showed up just demonstrates how good of a person you are to consider others wanting to experience the sites in peace!

I was born only three miles away from that cape , and to me that was cape of dreams. It was of limits during monist regime. I now live in Brooklyn dreaming that one day will be sailing this waters on my sailboat one day. Thank you Sam for your excellent sailing videos.

You need more charge sources. Square solar panels store below deck better than long ones. Flex panels break often. Small windmills are not cheap. Check to see if your batteries are discharging all by themselves. Lead batteries in parallel are a disaster.

8:00 the erosion of the soft sandstone is caused by the too hard mortar used in the pointing - as the mortar dries it shrinks and when rain gets between it and the stone it can freeze during the winter and the stone being the weaker breaks off - little by little the stone gets hollowed out. Never use mortar that's harder than the stone, brick etc that you're pointing people. Best to use Lime mortar.

Hi sam...i sailed every where all along the coast of Albania 25 years ago..of course i recognise all the places, things have changed since then,as far as I know l was the first sailing boat ever to sail that coast after the fall of the comunist..if you come to the north of adriatic and spend the winter there write me..i can give you lots of useful information and take you out of lunch... maurizio

Some boats have a second alternator for the lead acid batteries.
Albania was the worst place to sail, we had a small bay in Vlöre and there was a power outage at 2 am when we arrived for like an hour.
Fireworks randomly went off at 3 am, everything smelled like a waste facility. The worst of all, there were flesh eating flies and they bite through your skin making you bleed.

Can you use something like a whisper quiet generator to use as an emergency battery charger. I know it means carrying gasoline, they don't use much gas and could help in a pinch.
Hey sam there are small gas powered generator out there that could be helpful for you to charge batter5and other stuff when things go wrong

@oldjack3023 🤣 no doubt lol I see the 28 has about 1500 lb more displacement and 500 lb more ballast, 40 sq ft more sail area and two more feet at the waterline with a solid 1/3 of a knot hull speed increase. I guess what I'm really wondering is how much difference in handling...

Why do you purposefully upload in 1080p, when RUclips absolutely BUTCHER the quality because of the premium choice? The videos look really bad quality wise, and has been for a long while now - because of this. If you upload in 1440p (even though if you don't record in 1440p), there will be a much lesser quality loss. It looks REALLY bad right now, and like I said before, it has been looking really bad for a while.
