Those Sailors working the flight deck just fascinated the hell out of me! I was a cook with VAW-123 on the America in '86 and whenever I had some free time I would run up to "Vulture's Row" and just sit there and watch those guys for hours!! Oh how I miss those days!!
I was stationed onboard the Truman CVN75 from 2004 - 2009. Worked in the Waist and Bow Catapults, before finishing in ALRE Quality Assurance. This tour was the best experience I’ve experienced in my career.
Back in the day,the 90s, when a pilot landed on an aircraft carrier for the first time he gets to keep the tailhook . The 6 foot aluminum bar that catches the cable. I wonder if they still uphold that tradition ?
Zepp Dude 33 I think the hook isn't the major factor...looks like an accessory safety measure, like that small parachute that some planes deploy when landing
+Ein Han its the cord and the hook. if the pilot misses the cord, he's def not gonna land because he's going too fast. if they miss the cord, theyll circle around for another attemp
The landing speed is about 130 knots, and it stops in about 3 seconds. Then, just in case, they add full power before touchdown in case of missing the wire.
When I was 22 that was my dream to work in the aircraft carrier, could make it. Now my son did ! Love to see them my respet to those who work in it.the f-18 Is my favorite .
Landing these birds at such a high rate of speed and screeching to a stop is hopefully as close to a crash landing as these pilots will ever get. These pilots are the BEST! My niece is married to one, he’s super, super smart, controlled, very, very fit, even tempered and very funny.
This doesn't even come close to being there in person. Flight ops is one of the coolest things you can ever experience. Kudos to my brothers-in-arms. 20 years Navy!
If that chain breaks, everyone on the deck would be cut in half. Thats why the deck guys wear metal plates on their legs. Those chains are thick as a banana. They use titanium alloy. I was a Jet driver for 30 years in the army. Those chains are strong. ⛓️
Well, only one CAT was used. When all for CATS are active, and a full cycle is in process, well, then it is 5 to 6 times the amount of people on deck. ^^
If anyone has ever flown one of these answer a question for me please. Does landing on a carrier ever not scare the crap out of you? I mean, is it even possible to get so good that it doesn't make you super nervous? Thanks (for your service!)
Jelly Donut my boss Trent is an ex navy pilot and instructor with 75 Carrier landings . He said during the day it's not scary at all . But at night and in rough seas its scary as hell . He said today that he has seen the red paint on bottom of the carrier ( the part that normally is under water ) . What other have commented is correct that while trying to land he said you aim for the third wire and you do have the power on in case you don't hook . He has seen pilots forget to drop the hook or hooks break .
I’ve actually worked the Flight Deck during launches and recovery. Both day and night operations. And I’ll tell you that it’s scary doing both. Being uncomfortable keeps you on your toes. Getting comfortable makes you complacent, and that’s what gets you killed.
The braking and acceleration of the aircraft are likely to use gravitational potential energy, with the weight being lifted to a height of h during braking and the weight being lowered again from a height of h as the aircraft accelerates, by means of the trapped rope.
Amazing and i was shocked to see the other guys standing near the engine of the aircraft, i was always thinking a person can be severely burn or projected by the a jet engine
For those who fear they might go over board. You might wanna look down near the carrier during a landing. That rope is to stop that fear from happening
Any technical crew or pilot can explain why the F-18 turns rudders inward on takeoff? I'm guessing since its vertical fins are actually tilted, have both rudders turned in lets them perform like a secondary elevator to pitch the plane up.
Love carrier landings. To see how something that can fly so fast, and yet stop in the blink of an eye is amazing.
Gkkkkm
they dont actually stop that fast there connecting to cables on aircraft carriers to stop fast
heh, that's kinda what I meant
5 years ago and u replied. i bet its weird for you seeing a comment that old@@clippedwings225
oh my God so fake how can a jet take off short Runway
Respect for the Guy who have recorded all these Beautiful things for us to see

I hope you had ear plugs on? i had to on the 011 level when I took pictures.
I find it insane how they pull off these landings. There looks like there’s such a small margin of error when catching the cord that stops them
there is
Flight operations aboard the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) include multiple takeoffs and landings of F/A-18 Hornets and one takeoff of an E-2 Hawkeye.
today, do you play DCS World 2.9 ? xD
Ballz of steel!

I never get bored watching this.
I remember at 12 years old being on an aircraft carrier, A site I’ll never forget.
Good thing you went when you were 12. I was 11 when I visited and forgot everything 😞
I remember last year working on one over the summer. I was a cashier and it was a museum but still thing was huge
WOW, THATS A VERY NICE AIRCRAFT! John P.
Navy pilots are the best, they make it look so easy.
jay dee turkish stars ?
@jay dee. That's thanks to a long and hard training. Before landing onboard, they first practice a lot in simulators
That does not look easy at all
Piece O cake......geez a turn
You should play carrier landings it kinda tells you how hard it is
its amazing how strong that plane is to be going so fast and stop so fast, youd think it would pull the back end of the jet right off.
It has a tail hook that grabs onto a rope when it lands and the rope slows it down that's how it stops so fast
Brandon Melhem it’s not a rope it’s a cable US S Independence CVA 62
Arresting gear
Rope LMAO
I call it the tail and trap
so smooth landing wow
Back in the day,the 90s, when a pilot landed on an aircraft carrier for the first time he gets to keep the tailhook . The 6 foot aluminum bar that catches the cable.
I wonder if they still uphold that tradition ?
If that was something that they did back in the day, I don’t know. I know that the piece of the Holdback release element was a keeper.
Reducing that speed to zero in a few seconds is near magic!
WHAT AN AMAZING AIRCRAFT flying of a great CARRIER! John P.
Those stopping wires reminded me of when Spider-Man stops the train in the second movie
GnarMan 135 lol
This is the best video!
wow, impressive how it stops so fast. 0.0
The hook

Ein Han Yeah, thank arrester cables
Thank you my friends across the pond😅😢i love ur dedication and ur sacrifice
I thank each and everyone for their services 😢😢
I can watch this 24/7
1:24 so gentle.
Not gonna sugar coat it, I just wanted to watch Jets taking off and landing for a bit....
That's never a bad thing
Who wouldn’t tho
i am ur 160th like, enjoy :)
Same
Same
Thank you for your service.
The one hornet that didn’t even tilt when he reached the edge…awesome skill!
Impressive!
Thank you for the video!
Cool how the plane bounces for just a second as it takes off. .
The view from the control tower, woah
When I was 22 that was my dream to work in the aircraft carrier, could make it. Now my son did ! Love to see them my respet to those who work in it.the f-18 Is my favorite .
The last landing was smooth

20 + years here as well!! If you’ve got flight deck stories to share, I’d love to talk about it!
If that chain breaks, everyone on the deck would be cut in half. Thats why the deck guys wear metal plates on their legs. Those chains are thick as a banana. They use titanium alloy. I was a Jet driver for 30 years in the army. Those chains are strong. ⛓️
These men are far superior than typers like me, definitely.
After watching Top Gun Mav just realised many times i watched this vid📹 as an aviation fan for 8 years
You watch this and the opening to top gun, and it is amazing how many fewer people they use nowadays on the flight deck
This wasn't normal day operations
Well, only one CAT was used. When all for CATS are active, and a full cycle is in process, well, then it is 5 to 6 times the amount of people on deck. ^^
Top Gun real life. I was so glad to found something that looks like the Top Gun opening scene and it looks really similar.
fajne!!!. Widać o co w tym biega!!!!
Person doing the hand signals always awesome to me
Fascinating takeoff
The thing i like about aircraft carries is that there basically airports on water or airbases on water
The dude that tells the jets to take off is cool Everytime I see them I remember top gun and the song
I get what you’re saying. But, Hollywood and reality is 2 different things. And what you’re referring to is the “Shooter”.
New dcs update looks good !
This is great 💕
I hear that thing that gives the plane a boost on takeoff will make you clench up, if you know what I mean.
Man I would be walking funny if I did this. The acceleration on launch, that crazy descent, and DEceleration on landing.
Deploying flaps is understandable but why does the f18 have its ailerons faced down when taking off?
If anyone has ever flown one of these answer a question for me please. Does landing on a carrier ever not scare the crap out of you? I mean, is it even possible to get so good that it doesn't make you super nervous? Thanks (for your service!)

I’ve also heard multiple pilots say that they would do day landings for fun but would never ever volunteer to do another night landing.
I’ve actually worked the Flight Deck during launches and recovery. Both day and night operations. And I’ll tell you that it’s scary doing both.
Being uncomfortable keeps you on your toes. Getting comfortable makes you complacent, and that’s what gets you killed.
Wonder how many Gs they feel when it comes to a stop
Beautiful.

beautiful!!! thank you,
Очень красиво!
are this included in STOL?
this is inspirational
VFA-131 F-18C To F-18E Super Hornet With CVW-3
My dream is to do that! Few more years to go.
Mark Krawiec 3 years later, did you do it? Im curious
Mark Krawiec yea how is it
Mark Krawiec now the question is, are you a pilot or are you just part of the 99% that didn't make ot
gl on your dream
Mark Krawiec wat da fuk happened man?
Awesome 👏 🙌🔥
best fighter flight video..
It's just not the same without Danger Zone in the background 😂
I think it was recordet on the CVN 75 aka the USS Harry S. Truman.
"the battlefield is THAT way"
“The guys doing warrior one like the yoga pose”
can someone explain how the jets land and how the rope gets attached like that?
The jets have a a cable witha hook attached to it, so the hook catches into the rope in the deck
Carlos Chinchilla cool. a tail hook basically?
Indeed, a tail hook it is :)
Carlos Chinchilla cool
Carlos Chinchilla what if it doesn't catch
Why do the rudders go towards each other on take off? How is this possible??
Best of the world's best. Freedom
😂😂😂 Hearing this many planes LATE NIGHT this early in the WEEK IS RARE!!! *It sounds like BATS out of the Abyss.
SEATAC AIRPORT....
VMFA-312 Return To Beaufort South Carolina In 2019
Some bad ass men and women...so proud!!
How do the carrier pilots confirm landing weight of plane to the ship ? Does the arresting wire have to be tightened for each plane landing ?
God i miss that sound. ❤
Amazing and i was shocked to see the other guys standing near the engine of the aircraft, i was always thinking a person can be severely burn or projected by the a jet engine
If you stand behind the engine it's gonna blow you away. Standing to it's side doesn't do much except being very loud.
VAQ-130 Return To Naval Air Station Whidbey Island
random question whats the breaking limit on those cables????
Is the green guy controling the Catapult?
1:29 Guy in green is like "Wait, wait, you forgot your wallet"
*Green Green what's your problem green me say alone ramp me say alone ramp*
For those who fear they might go over board.
You might wanna look down near the carrier during a landing.
That rope is to stop that fear from happening
amazing 👍🏻

Thats exactly right, its a secondary elevator
So cool !
Imagine working here on a day to day basis, your ears will blow out with the jet roar
0:08 The sound of Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto Banki North
Wow good job well done .
Amazing video, actually when fighters landing
Great 🖤
How do the wheels not get caught in an arrestor cable?
Winner every time!
beautiful video unfortunete it too short!!!
meir sasson ruclips.net/video/uj9uPfCFuCI/видео.html
Amazing
🎶Highway to the danger zone🎶
Very good video! But how or who releases the catapult after shooter points, pilot, deck crew?
Pilot.
Incredible
Stopping cable are very strong.
The most impressive thing is the strength of that cable
very nice
do planes take off the angled part of the deck or the straight part
Both. They can launch 2 aircraft at the same time
I saw a Seahawks logo on a plane that's enough to get a like out of me
thank you
so nice,very nice..
I can only imagine how loud that must be to be right there when those jets take off.
Imagine doing such a highly skilled takeoff while your brain is mashed against the back of your skull by the G-force.
you experience about 4g during take off
@@SoloVoid If you go in a go kart you will hit 4g on hard corners.
I'd like to know what material that cable is made of to be able to stop a fighter jet and not break
dan meyer flexible steel
I used the think the f16 is better looking but the more I watch the hornet the more I'm stung by it's figure haha
