  • In 2014, Sandra Bullock and Amy Adams gave two of the best performances of their careers, but they still lost the Oscar to Cate Blanchett. In this video, I break down that year's fascinating Best Actress race. #academyawards #oscars #bestactress #sandrabullock #amyadams #cateblanchett #theawardscontender

Bullock and Adams lost that year because Blanchett gave the best performance of the years, hands down!!

Are we gonna ignore why these 2 lost against Blanchett? Dude, she probably gave the best performance by a female in the 20th century, but her performance in TAR was a masterclass in acting, she should have won without a question.

Cate was never going to lose that year. Her performance was astounding. Dench is my runner up. Sandra is a decent actress, but not great. Her Oscar for a Lifetime TV / Afterschool Special was a joke.

That year was cate blanchett year. Nobody was seeing her.
Cate was on fire that award season. She was guving interviews, wearing high fashion clothes at the premieres, making appearances etc.

One of the easiest predicted Oscar wins. Blanchett had dominated the precursors. She had never won Best Actress. Blue Jasmine was one of Woody Allen's biggest box office hits.

If Sandy would not have already won one Oscar I think her chances would have been bigger too.
I love Adams' performance in AH but winning a best actress Oscar for that would have been too much.
Cate however as an earlier winner as Sandy her performance as Jasmine is phenomenal.....

In my opinion it was between Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench that year, both were incredible. Also, I really think Emma Thompson should have been nominated for Saving Mr Banks, that is one of my biggest oscar snubs of all time.

  • @SoulKnightKing
    @SoulKnightKing 2 месяца назад +6

What's sad is that her performance in Blue Jasmine was easily the best of the year and we'll deserved. Most actors never come close to a Blue Jasmine performance. However...Blanchett did the impossible in 2022. She gave us TAR, a performance that was so legendary it made Blue Jasmin look like a razzie level performance. Monumental and comparable to Meryl's Sophie Choice or Day Lewis' TWBB. But then she loses the Oscar to campaigning, virtue signaling, and Yeoh being a sore winner to get the Oscar.
Blanchett should honestly have at least 4 Oscars, but they're too afraid to give her her flowers but will nominate Meryl for anything and everything. So hypocritical and frustrating.

  • @EvanBenedicto
    @EvanBenedicto 2 месяца назад +6

she shouldve won last year too with TAR
but, at the end of the day, the awards show are all about eyeballs, and that year they're all for EEAAO, just my opinion.
EEAAO is one of my fave movies of all time btw. very happy Michelle won

Cate Blanchett gave the best performance IMO. She was amazinging in that movie. But also I would have voted for Yeoh if I had a vote. The narrative did win.

    • @Reva-mz8yl

@@mikegonzalez503lol why is it the “narrative” when POC win? Yeoh packed way more range into that performance than Blanchett did. That’s why she won.

Amy Adams never had a chance. And she has more of a supporting role in that movie. It was really only a battle between Cate and Sandra, but Cate really didn't have a rival that year.
Actually, Judi Dench was the third best that year, not Amy Adams.

Probably my favorite of Gravity’s 7 Oscars was Best Original Score. Steven Price mainly does music for documentaries, but I’m so glad he decided to compose the score to Gravity, it giving the film so much of its emotional power. The music takes the frightening moments and makes them truly harrowing, but when it finally looks like Ryan will make it out alive, which she does, the score changes to fit the triumphant tone. By the end with the title track “Gravity” blasting, you feel as if you’ve just survived 90 minutes in space too.

The Oscars are weird sometimes. Sandra Bullock gets nominated for an actual acting challenge in Gravity and WINS for The Blind Side (a TV movie and stock film character). Blanchett was just sweeping that year for Blue Jasmine. It would have been difficult for Bullock or Adams or Streep or Dench to derail her.

That was a ridiculously good year. Most other years, any one of them would have walked away with the trophy. I remember seeing Bullock in Gravity in the theatre and thinking “That was an Oscar worthy performance.” She held that entire thing together and all on her OWN. I loved all of those performances, as well as Emma Thompson in Saving Mr. Banks. Blanchett, though, completely blew everyone away. She gave one of the best Oscar winning performances ever with Jasmine. There was no way she would lose. But had it been any other year, I think Bullock, Adams, or Dench could have taken it. It’s crazy how some years have all the best performances and others are weaker lineups.

It was a stupid movie, but Blanchett was hilarious in "Banditts". Until then I saw her as a great dramatic actor, but you don't really prove your talent until you have the courage to do the very hard and technical part of acting - comedy.

Sandra won too recently and for a film that was already aging and not well.
Gravity was/ is the better film but it was always going to be Blanchett that year.
AH didn’t just rub the academy the wrong way. I’m still surprised it got so many nominations.

I think Sandra should have gotten a nomination for Crash. The academy has before given nominations for brief performances, Beatrice Straight winning for a 5 minute role in Network is an example. I think Crash is some of her all time best dramatic acting even if it is brief.

Hello ! It would be so interesting if you could make a video about Best Actress race 2003, between Julianne Moore for FAR FROM HEAVEN who was the absolute critics favorite, and Nicole Kidman and Renée Zellweger who were backed up by Harvey Weinstein and bagged all major awards (SAG, Golden Globes) for THE HOURS and CHICAGO.

Dench should won. Phillomena was also a big hit in US and specially worldwide. Was a note for Scandal part 2 race.
Bullock and Blanchett were both close for the seccond place. At first I thought that Blanchett was clearly the number 2. But now I also consider the physicall difficulties and the screen time. And Bullock was in the 95% of the movie
While Blanchett was just like 70% and makes an impersionation mix of Mia Farrow and Blanche Dubois.
Dench was number 2. Placing Adams as number 2, its only part of your immagination.

Poor vid. Not only do you not cover what your topic is but gushing over your 'favourite actress' just makes this vid reek.
WTF happened here? Your other vids actually have a good breakdown of all contenders, and a rational discussion, whilst having significant focus on the winner...but this one doesnt.
    Take some time and reflect.
    Youre better than this mate.

Agree. I love Awards Contenders videos, but I was hoping for a more compressive breakdown about one of my favourite actresses (Cate B) since this was her win. We already got a Bullock video before about her win. This video is focussed on Sandra receiving a second nomination. Blanchett is considered one of the greatest of her time, why is her win just a side-story here?
