It is pretty fascinating that just 10,000 years ago a scenario like this wouldn't have been possible and we could barely fight and survive against other apex predators like wolves and lions on the same level as us in the food chain. Now we have so much power over the lion that we can keep it healthy and put our baby in front of it to taunt it just for our amusement. Humanity has come a long way

It’s just conceivable, just maybe, that the lion doesn’t want to eat or harm the baby. He’s not lunging at the glass, his claws aren’t out, and he’s not growling or roaring. He may just be curious about this new little bumbling creature and want to check it out, sniff it a bit, give it a gentle padded paw or two to see what’s what. Then again, he may just be up for appetizers.
If my cats are any indication, he's only motivated by the thought of food or play. Play for a cat being slow torture of things which are powerless to them.
I don't think the lion understands of fragile the baby is. He may give it a test bite, not enough to hurt another lion but it will kill the baby on accident.

We go to game reserves in South Africa quite a lot and my son is fairly scared of elephants (as he should be). That said, he had no fear of being 10-meters away from 2 elephants while standing in our camp with only a 1-meter electric fence the only barrier between us and the elephants. It seemed to me that the elephants understood and accepted that our side of the fence was human territory.
I have two questions upon seeing this video. The first one is obviously why it's being recommended to me (though I definitely don't mind, it's cute as hell) and the second one is "why is it so hard for RUclips commenters to actually do their research before making baseless statements on an animal's behaviour?" Anyway, for people who are curious, a Lion's intentions and feelings are easily discernable by looking at the body language of its tail. If it's angry or afraid, the tail will swing from side to side on the ground, and it it's actively trying to catch a prey, the tail will be very stiff. Here, you can see that the tail is very fluid and relaxed, meaning the Lion is neither under any major stress caused by the glass wall, nor is it attempting to catch the baby as a prey to eat. It's likely just curious about it and wants to play with it, much like cats sometimes jump on you and try to catch your legs as a way to play. Of course, if the lion had its way with the baby, it could probably have clumsily harmed it due to how fragile it was, but not only was the glass wall obviously not going to break because that's its entire purpose, the lion itself didn't have any sort of blood-lust driven intentions in the first place. Two more points to keep in mind : This being a zoo lion, it was likely raised in captivity and fed by humans, thus having no reason to even consider eating one. It's not like Lions even prey on humans that often at all, as they usually only do so when they're either desperately hungry or too old for hunting. This lion is, again, fed regularly. Finally, the Lion didn't have its claws out. If it were trying to break the glass, which it wasn't, it would be a lot more aggressive about it and the least you'd expect is for it to at the very least use its claws, but no, it didn't. It was likely just trying to catch the baby or hoping for the glass to be opened, much like, again, a cat tapping a door waiting for its owner to open it.

My cat for instance always has access to his food but only eats it when he's hungry. And in the evening at exactly half past 5 his excellence expects his fancy dinner and will not touch his regular food. In the wild, male lions will not hunt, even when they see prey. The eat only when their hungry, when the lionesses bring back meat from their hunt. The lion will probably not eat the kid, he seems mostly just curious. "Play" with it sure, and kill it in the process probably.

The standards for glass animal enclosures at zoos are VERY exacting. I would trust that glass to hold back a speeding vehicle let alone a playful lion. Even if the glass does shatter it has a layer of velum sandwiched in it so it would STILL hold back the lion.

Well,it's not ordinary glass being used for these kinds of enclosures with dangerous animals(it's plexiglass/safety glass/laminated glass/bullet resistant glass) but the parents are still reckless. Because safety glass,as difficult as it would be to do it,can still be penetrated.I don't t believe a lion is strong enough to break plexiglass but I still wouldn't take the chance of trying to find out.

Ye pretty much what you said. The problem for the baby is that "investigating what is in front of him" for a lion usually involves quite a bit of force and some biting, but the lion wasn't being aggressive at all there, it wasn't even roaring.
A lion would only charge at something when its prey is capable of running away or defending itself. Cats tend to play with defenseless prey before eating them.
Agreed, granted with a baby it would be less charging, more fast trotting up and snatching it if it was expecting it to be food, but even if it was only curious or playing, with lions that tends to involve a lot of mouthing and batting around and roughing up. Baby would be dead either way.

It’s just conceivable, just maybe, that the lion doesn’t want to eat or harm the baby. He’s not lunging at the glass, his claws aren’t out, and he’s not growling or roaring. He may just be curious about this new little bumbling creature and want to check it out, sniff it a bit, give it a gentle padded paw or two to see what’s what. Then again, he may just be up for appetizers.
If my cats are any indication, he's only motivated by the thought of food or play. Play for a cat being slow torture of things which are powerless to them.

We go to game reserves in South Africa quite a lot and my son is fairly scared of elephants (as he should be). That said, he had no fear of being 10-meters away from 2 elephants while standing in our camp with only a 1-meter electric fence the only barrier between us and the elephants. It seemed to me that the elephants understood and accepted that our side of the fence was human territory.

I have two questions upon seeing this video. The first one is obviously why it's being recommended to me (though I definitely don't mind, it's cute as hell) and the second one is "why is it so hard for RUclips commenters to actually do their research before making baseless statements on an animal's behaviour?"
Anyway, for people who are curious, a Lion's intentions and feelings are easily discernable by looking at the body language of its tail. If it's angry or afraid, the tail will swing from side to side on the ground, and it it's actively trying to catch a prey, the tail will be very stiff. Here, you can see that the tail is very fluid and relaxed, meaning the Lion is neither under any major stress caused by the glass wall, nor is it attempting to catch the baby as a prey to eat. It's likely just curious about it and wants to play with it, much like cats sometimes jump on you and try to catch your legs as a way to play. Of course, if the lion had its way with the baby, it could probably have clumsily harmed it due to how fragile it was, but not only was the glass wall obviously not going to break because that's its entire purpose, the lion itself didn't have any sort of blood-lust driven intentions in the first place.
Two more points to keep in mind : This being a zoo lion, it was likely raised in captivity and fed by humans, thus having no reason to even consider eating one. It's not like Lions even prey on humans that often at all, as they usually only do so when they're either desperately hungry or too old for hunting. This lion is, again, fed regularly.
Finally, the Lion didn't have its claws out. If it were trying to break the glass, which it wasn't, it would be a lot more aggressive about it and the least you'd expect is for it to at the very least use its claws, but no, it didn't. It was likely just trying to catch the baby or hoping for the glass to be opened, much like, again, a cat tapping a door waiting for its owner to open it.

The eat only when their hungry, when the lionesses bring back meat from their hunt. The lion will probably not eat the kid, he seems mostly just curious. "Play" with it sure, and kill it in the process probably.
This is the most realistic representation of humanity I've seen in a while; we wall ourselves off so we feel safe and strong when, in fact we are like babies vs lions. It's almost poetic.

Well,it's not ordinary glass being used for these kinds of enclosures with dangerous animals(it's plexiglass/safety glass/laminated glass/bullet resistant glass) but the parents are still reckless. Because safety glass,as difficult as it would be to do it,can still be penetrated.I don't t believe a lion is strong enough to break plexiglass but I still wouldn't take the chance of trying to find out.
