  • This is a quick look and first drive of the new RHD Toyota Tundra. Evan Spence was invited to be one of the first people in Australia to have a drive of Toyota's biggest 4x4 ute late last yea, to evaluate the new Tundra and provide his initial impressions. Stay tuned for a full review when the vehicle is released later this year (hopefully). It's safe to say though - this is an impressive tow vehicle.

Yeah tow 4.5 ton but the rear axle can't handle the load with a weight distribution hitch that seem a cheap cop out.

A bit weird you cant buy this car in Australia . but lots of reviews . Its apparently priced at 150+ driveway after the testers have driven them for over 18 months , more nonsensical imported car prices and limited availability if it ever becomes available and this is a big if ? just buy the ford f150 for 100 K driveway or the Ram .The experiment they are running is to see if people want to put down the money to order one , it won't sell because the ford and ram are much cheaper and more available . They won't be able to make this 100 K 120K drive away like it should be , even though its a cheap 70 aud grand in USA.

This is where the government needs to look at a towing course/licence. I really don't want a 3.5 ton truck towing 4.5 ton coming at me on the highway with old pop behind the wheel. Scary stuff

Has anyone else noticed that the keyhole for the door lock is on passenger door? It should have been swapped over to the drivers door for RHD configuration. It's probably because it's a pre-production vehicle but it makes the vehicle look like a poor conversion job.

Im actually really pissed at Toyota.
This is the exact reason im going other car brands. I want a v8 diesel tundra with difflocks and all bells and whistles.
Toyota are cheaping out. I might be a minority but the fact other brands offer that and Toyota doesnt just pisses me off.

This is a US vehicle converted for Australia. Under US EPA regulations, the Tundra is too small to make a diesel viable. GM is the only one still trying to make a diesel work in a half ton and I expect that they will give up soon. If you want a diesel in a US pickup you have to get over 8,500 lbs GVWR/GVM and Toyota does not compete in the large pickup category.

Tow vehicles don't have coil spring rear suspensions.

You do know trains use coil springs?

    • @rich7447

@@Unsealed trains have the advantage of always running on a prepared surface. For stability towing a load leaf springs and/or airbags. Do you see coils on any of the larger pickups? Ram tried it with some of their 2500s and they are the most plentiful pickups on dealer lots.

12 Ton Unimog truck has coil suspension on all corners so there’s that.
