Balut is a street food popular in the Philippines as well as other countries, it's definitely not for the faint of hearted and Balut is an acquired taste. This is such an emotional roller coaster ride. I as a Filipino knows its an acquired taste. I mean we have different tastes, I myself can eat about 3 in a single sitting, one of my friends can finish at least 8 but another friend of

That was hilarious, and so enjoyable to watch. Thanks for your open mindness on eating a whole Balut. The only thing you did wrong is when eating a Balut, you do not have to eat the hard white particle ( part of your last bite ) that is not edible, other than that, everything was perfect. Next time, drink the soup, which taste like consume' , then peel the shell, and eat the Balut in ONE bite, chase it with a gulp of Red Horse. That my friend is the 'Tagay hanggang Mamatay" moment! I had only eaten 1 balut in my entire life. Never looked back after that. And I'm a Filipino! Penoy (a balut type without the chick) is my cup of tea. I can eat that anytime even without the vineggy or salt. Try that sometime. It's just like a boiled egg but more tasty.

BTW, don't need to eat the white hard part of the balut, that is called Bato (literally translates to "Stone"). That's the egg white or albumen part, but it's up yo you, that one has a lot of calcium.
When i was around 20 i also didn't eat balut..but when i got to taste it..i couldn't stop eating..balut is a aphrodisiac for every filipino.we ate it with vinegar with chop onions and garlic in it..a little bit of salt..woah,so delicious!!love u man..you did it.

BTW! I love balut but i can't look at it when eating. That's why I 'one-shot' it when eating. Also, there's a story that the reason why vendors only sell it at night is because of the look.

Hahahahaha! Kudos to you that you finished your first balut! By the way, the last part you ate, the white part which is hard, we dont eat it. You got the vinefar and salt correct. But for me salt is just fine. What i usually do when eating balut is i sip the soup, peel and eat the duck( the brownish part) and finish with the yellow part so you dont get that after taste. But thats just me. Other eat it in one gulp. But again congrats on eating your first balut

Jonny, normally we dont eat the hard part of the balut. Sometimes you can request for an earlier days of fertilization of balut. Earlier/ shorter days dont have those bigger bones of embryo.

Funniest video I've watched so far I'm 2022. I love it. In going to try Balut next time I'm back in PH. I tried something like Balut but it wasn't as fully formed as your balut - it was pretty good. When it came to the hard part they said "don't eat the rock part"

What makes a balut delicious is the "venegie" wherein it is fermented for just a week before using it.
Ingredients:
Vinegar, garlic minced, onion minced, pepper corn, and chili for the extra kick.

I'd say you did that a proper go and well done. Also, opening it from the bottom is correct and soup first, which you did right. I personally only eat a little bit of the white part because it's too tough but at the end of the day, the egg is just like a boiled egg....with a chick inside. Lol. Rules in eating balut
1. Do not look the egg when eating (did you know that selling balut in the Philippines is usally 6pm up to midnight, we usually eat it in dark streets 😁)
2. After drinking the broth from balut you need to peel the whole shell so you can eat it whole. (We dont usually eat it portion by portion because maybe its kind of weird to think you ate the head, hand etc)
3. We have different kinds of balut like "balut sa puti" meaning embryo is smaller than other baluts so balut sa puti is more we usually recommend to foreigners or people who will eat it on the 1st time 😉 so they will be able to appreciate the experience of eating balut

Its our 1st time in P.I. and we have been everywhere on the map. So here we are and we swore we would try the balut But when they cracked it open the smell was horrendous!
