It was only a few months ago that I discovered how big a deal the national hillclimb championship is for you guys, and honestly, I am filled with joy. This atmosphere, the many crazy but adorable fans simply amazes me. Here in Hungary, the hillclimb championship is kind of a simple road race competition, with a significantly longer distance. Needless to say, there are almost no fans along the road. Of course, people will probably go out more for a shorter but more "substantial" climb, but still. Also, if I understand correctly, there is no stipulation that only licensed competitors can start. It simply puts a smile on my face every single video where I see how much people appreciate the performance of athletes. Hats off.
We enjoy it too! The UK hill climbing scene has been around for many decades and is well established among amateur club riders. Every autumn sees numerous HC events of which the National Championship is the biggest and last. Courses tend to be short and steep. People absolutely bury themselves for a good time which makes it all very exciting.
Just when I thought I'd worked out that to be good at hill climbs, purposeful black kit was the answer, red and blue took it at the top. The low angle shots were very immersive. I liked the brief shot of wet tyre marks weaving over a patch of sunny road, very evocative of the season and this kind of event.
Because them's the rules. In this event the road was closed but there are many other events where the road is not closed to non-cycle traffic. You can be sure the riders would not have lights if they weren't mandated.

Yep, with his graffiti'd bike.
That bloke in his mums polka dot jim jams, easy cost Feather 2 seconds 🤫
Feather was 370 right? I didn't see that guy impede him - 22:55 am I looking at the wrong thing?
Yes, he wasn't impeded. It was the same for everyone anyway.
How much was Feathers bike ££ how much was Macfarlanes bike £. Bet feather pissed off spending £££££££££ and not winning !!
The rider performance appears to be the bigger factor. The pricier bike might save a few watts.
Pretty clear he got the bike for free
