Just saw this. Reminds me of a day trip with some school friends to walk some of the closed IOW lines in 1969. Much more was still visible though we still had to avoid the tunnel at Ventnor. Amazing how much has changed in 55 years.
Very interesting as usual - thankyou!
These have been great videos. Well done you two. Will miss these when they come out. Very informative. 😊
Thank you! We will miss doing them, although we do have other things in the works after the series finishes 😊.
All the best.
I cycled this line between Merstone and Sandown yesterday coincidentally. Another great well researched episode. I live in Godshill so looking forward to the last line where the St Lawrence tunnel is walkable (torch advised 🤣)
Yes we are looking forward to the tunnel (gulp) 😅. Many thanks 👍
Hi, Great review of the Sandown to Newport line. Full of interesting information and nostalgic archive footage. So well researched as usual. As a young boy I was a railway fanatic and spent every holiday from 9 years old until I was 15 on the Island. Sad to say I am old enough to just remember the closing of this line. Look forward to your review of the line to Ventnor West which was a difficult decision to understand.
Thank you & glad you enjoyed the video! We bet they are fantastic memories to cherish. All the best 😊
Loving these videos Jack. Looking forward to the next one and your journey through the tunnel. I finally got to walk through it back in September.
Beware of the ghosts in there. 😉
Thank you! 😊 Will do ... last time I went in there was when I was about 9 and it was used for growing mushrooms. Thanks for watching and all the best 👍
Wow guys, love the video cant wait for the next video 🎉
Thank you 🙂👍
Well done guys another great informative video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Tracie! 😊 all the best to you!
Thanks! I cycled that trail during my holiday on the island a couple of weeks ago. Good to see it again and to get a bit more information about its history. I too was surprised by the gradient just southeast of Merstone. No problem on a bike, but definitely a job for The Little Engine That Could when it was a railway!
Thank you! Glad you got to cycle this wonderful railway. Certainly would have been a sight to behold back when the trains used to run up the bank 🙂. All the best & thanks for watching 👍
Mrs got chatted up down the horringford stretch. Good times.
Wow that's audacity hope she's ok
Great video as always, thank you :)
Thank you Sue! 😊
Excellent video. Nice to see the old footage as well. Also nice that the some o f the old station buildings are still standing. Merstone will be high on my list when I eventually get back to the island.
Thank you John 😊. Yes luckily many of the buildings still remain, perhaps because the railway was so rural. All the best 👍
Thanks for sharing 🍓🧶🌈💙
