  • 90% of anglers are using their fish finders incorrectly. They’re either underutilizing the functions or their settings are just plain wrong so they can’t find the fish.
    I’ve been in the tackle business for over 30 years helping anglers set up their fish finders. Lowrance sends out their reps to work with me when I give seminars. Most brands have very similar technologies so the information in these videos are applicable no matter the model or brand. I’ve been using fish finders since the days of the paper graph!
    In this video, I’ll introduce the different technologies and then go into depth on 2D Sonar, which has been around for many years and is still being used to this day. You’ll learn how to get out of auto mode and dive into manual mode. I’ll show you how to set up Sensitivity, Colorline, Arches, A-Scope & Frequency to get the most out of your fish finder and explain why each of these settings are important and what they do.
    2D Sonar is such an important technology that I’ve broken the subject into two videos. So please check back for Part 2: Noise Rejection, Range, Split Screen, Palettes, Scroll Speed & Ping. After watching this series of videos, I’m sure you’ll be able to fine tune your fish finder to catch a whole lot more fish!
    This is the first of six episodes on fish finder technologies:
    1) Episode 1: FISH FINDER 101: 2D Sonar - Part 1: Sensitivity, Colorline, Arches, A-Scope & Frequency | - • FISH FINDER 101: 2D SO...
    2) Episode 2: FISH FINDER 101: 2D Sonar - Part 2: Noise Rejection, Range, Split Screen, Palettes, Scroll Speed & Ping - • FISH FINDER 101: 2D SO...

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 года назад +3

      The way to tell is are you graphing archs? If not just marks or line your transducer needs to be tilted up in the rear. If in river graph going down stream n see if you get an arch.

    I went through and watched all your parts to this series. I see you had a shorts clip about transducer angle. I have a 20 foot jetcraft boat with a 5.3/jet drive. I have my transducer currently level with the bottom of the boat. I plan to adjust the angle so it sits level when the boats in the water. Do you see that effecting readings at higher speed? I fish the feather alot and like to have 2d sonar on to tell me live depth readings. I have the lowrance hds 9 live with 3/1 transducer.

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  7 месяцев назад +1

      If you can read the depth when you on pad then the transducer is correct height. But if your idling at slow speed and don't see archs then the rear of the ducer needs to be lifted up in the back. do about 1/8" at a time until you see it arch for fish.

  • @reggiegalanto

    Awesome been waiting for a video where someone can explain that frequency. So with the transducer would it matter which way it’s pointed? Cuz on my kayak I hang it off the side of the kayak

    Hi Alan. Should I use 83khz or 200khz for trolling for stripers in the delta?

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  7 месяцев назад +1

      I use 200 khz as iots cleaner. 83khz looks wider but more noise. You can use downscan on 800khz also and it looks a lot wider.

    Hey Alan, I was adjusting my sensitivity wrong all this time - I like a mostly clean screen. I'll have to get used to more clutter but at least I'll see more fish now! I plan to put notes into my phone so I'll have them out on the boat for reference.
    If you're not already going to include, can you talk about multple fish finders on the boat and how you would set the frequencies on each.
    Looking forward to future video's on this topic. Thanks Alan!

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 года назад +2

      If your bass fishing and have a FF up front each unit has to have it's own transducer. They shouldn't interfere with each other. If they do put the front one on 83 khz n consol on 200 khz. If you trout n kokanee fishing and have a unit on back boat, consol will have a transducer and just run ether net to rear unit to see same as consol unit.

      Lol many years n time on the water will help any fisherman. Look at charts to see where these big flats are located. I am always watching for seagulls or sand hill cranes. Reason their there because of food. Once I locate these flats remember the tide because those are the two best things to know! I use the yamamoto orange bottom zako and I dye a red color one too

    Ok, Alan...question...I hear a lot of bad about LOWRANCE's Customer Service...but I kinda like the Hook Reveal. I'm also considering a Humminbird Helix...I'm on a Float Tube/ pontoon boat...5" or 7" and LOWRANCE or Humminbird? They could also include Side Imagery or just Down Scan and CHIRP. Thanks in advance!

    • @AlanFong
      @AlanFong  2 года назад +2

      I'm sure you be happy with either unit. What kind of fishing do you do? Because it makes a difference if your fishing in over hundred feet. If kokanee fishng you might only be fishing 30 ft down but if your in 100 ft water the unit has to sound to the bottom and come back up. So you might need a better un it.

    I started fishing the sac river a few years ago for salmon.
    I did very well.. my spots produce. Then I went for Striper I do ok.
    I don’t target them to often that far away from home..same for the salmon. The shad fishing is fun I’ll go back every year. I stayed the night one time for sturgeon. No Luck For me that day and night.
    It’s hard To go back to the sac. I do enjoy that area very much. Very Clean water my fish finder is easy to use.
    I said all of this because that day I used my down screen and blamed it for not going back for sturgeon.
    All I see are Speck’s on the screen I’m guessing it’s fish. Same thing in the lakes parade and New Malone’s lake.
