House's new patient is Ezra Powell (Joel Grey), a renowned medical research pioneer who collapses in his lab. House puts Ezra through diagnostic rigors, but the team is unable to come up with a conclusive diagnosis and Ezra's health continues to deteriorate. Ezra ultimately demands the team help him end his life, but each member has divergent opinions on the morality of helping Ezra die, especially since the possibility of a cure is still in question. Meanwhile, Ali (Leighton Meester), the teenage daughter of a clinic patient, has developed a disturbing crush on House.

I always thought the REAL tearjerker was when it turns out that Cameron actually euthanised the guy. During the episode she went from admiration to deepseated disdain to tormented angel and it really shows how they setup her character as always falling for those she cannot save. When House confronts her with it there's a moment where you see that, in doing so, she gained a measure of respect from him for doing what he was unable to but at the same time the pitty he feels for her for being that hopeless romantic.

I am not sure. I didn't see the full episode, and i had that intuition it could be her decision. I didn't need to be ''said black on white''. I like it when i am being left with interrogation marks. Just as Cuddy is. I think the choice of editing that out and leaving it at House saying '' if i knew something, would you want to know ? '' to cuddy, is more interesting. It's a very interesting dialogue as well. The acting is excellent. _ furthemore, i find the intimist ritual of the lifeless body taken care of + the song, is the climax. Very meditative and respectful. That life is not about Cameron, it is about him, the patient. I have found it's a very sensible choice. Leaving us on that, wlth that resonnance and the soothing and intriguing song. I feel it's a beautiful hommage to the memory of that interesting man we got to meet. It's also wondeful to be allowed to witness such an intimate moment. _ It really is a touching scene. And a very real and beautiful transition, real in an helpful way, to me at least. _ But i am glad you mentionned that scene between Cameron and House, now i want to see the full episode.

I've always had somewhat of an issue with Cameron's moral judgments. She vows to treat everyone with respect and dignity, respecting their legal rights until she find that their morals are unaligned with hers. If she stood for helping people, as long as the good morals outweigh the bad, then I would agree with her methods. But here she ripped off his skin because he irritated her morals. House has his Puzzles, Foreman has his obsession of self-improvement, Chase has his enjoyment of challenges, but Cameron's morals swing back and forth on procedural, legal, and moral. Her hypocrisy is why she's an interesting character and i wouldn't have it any other way, but it still irks me

@randomguy9777 there's a theory that house's 3 stooges are representative of the Id, ego and superego. Chase is obviously the ego mirroring house, he's the least resistant to house's methodologies, Foreman is the super ego mirroring cuddy, he takes on the role of dean of medicine after her and is the most cautious of the three. Cameron is the id, she's a brilliant doctor but her emotionality does seem to effect her rationality, cons are that she relates to patients and can act as the middle ground to get consent from parents etc and acts as a source of comfort for some patients, she mirrors wilson (he had an affair while still married and dated that one cancer patient). I had the thought that Cameron was the super ego instead of foreman because of the whole "need to be holier than thou" Attitude but you kinda realize that she's a very impulse driven doctor, as in she "needs" To feel like she is morally superior and good.

But he never is the same when he thinks or knows a patient is going to die throughout the show, it bothers him a little, and considering in later episodes where he actually starts to show some compassion it’s plausible to believe that he cares a lot more then he will let himself believe.

With all the comments on RUclips about the many episodes that seem to get more attention e.g. Amber's death, this one (a battle between two legends in medicine), is excellent. The writing, the execution of all the actors (Grey was great, but he's a legend in my opinion), and the incredible twist at the end. I'm curious if any of you agree with me.

My Grandfather near the end of his life was suffering from heart failure. His heart wasn't strong enough to pump blood properly to his brain, and was causing him to suffer dementia like symptoms. There were points in time however where he became more cognizant, and all he would ask was "Why am I still here, I don't want to be here anymore," and say "I just want to die."
When he was aware, and could see what his life had become; being kept alive by machines and hoses, he knew he didn't want this. The Doctor told my Mother: "Listen to me very carefully. Every hour, you are going to tell your nurse your Father is in pain. Do you understand what I am telling you?" I'm thankful the Doctor had the courage to do what was right, even if it wasn't easy. 2 years later, Medically Assisted Death became legal in Canada, so Doctors are no longer put into these position like shown here in the show.

My dad had amyloidosis, multiple myeloma, renal failure and lost the ability to speak after the first dose of radiation burned his vocal cords, it could have been caught 6 months earlier but the doctor didn't care enough to look at his charts!
Always ask for your test results a 3 year old could see there was something wrong with his potassium levels at 180%

Strange that it took such an unleashed doctor as this to get a real smile from House.

It's funny - last time I saw that actor, he was also 'looking to die' in the prison drama, Oz.

I realize Dr. House and Dexter Morgan work in two different fields, but I'd still like to see them tackle a case together.

House is not a murderer with violent impulses though. And he still has emotions. Not all grumpy men are real sociopaths lmao.
