- Initial casting has been revealed for ''The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'' ahead of its new tour, commencing later this year.
Based on C S Lewis' iconic classic children's book about a group of children that walk through a wardrobe into a magical kingdom, the original production was first seen at Leeds Playhouse in 2017 before transferring to the Bridge Theatre in London in 2019.
Appearing in the piece will be Ammar Duffus as Peter, Shaka Kalokoh as Edmund, Robyn Sinclair as Susan and Karise Yansen as Lucy.
Aslan is to be played by Chris Jared, Mr Tumnus by Jez Unwin, Mr Beaver by Sam Buttery and Maugrim by Michael Ahomka-Lindsay.
They are joined by Oliver Bingham (Mr Brinkworth, March Hare and Aslan puppeteer), Kate Parr (Miss Gumley-Warmley and Phoenix), Grace Wylde (Mrs Pevensie, Robin and Falcon), Johnson Willis (Mr Willis, Professor Kirk, Father Christmas, Wise Owl and Whie Mouse), Rachel Dawson (Miss Chutney, Badger and Spirit of the Moon), Oliver Grant (Mr Wilson, Schrodinger, Red Squirrel and Aslan puppeteer), Matthew James Hinchliffe (Mr Marsden, Mauve Mole and Professor), Sophie Naglik (on stage swing), Anthony Starr (on stage swing), Tash Holway (on stage swing) and Brad Veitch (on stage swing). Further cast (including the individual playing the Wicked Witch) are yet to be announced. Развлечения
The Pevensie Children are all my favorite characters in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe including Lucy 🧑🏻👩🏻🧒🏻👧🏻
all the love to the movies but it’s high time we get another adaptation AND IT LOOKS GLORIOUS
I see you literally everywhere!!! Hello
😭😭😭😭😭😭 i am crying so much right now. I can't even explain how much Narnia has shaped my life and is different parts of my life. I grew up with the story as a little girl and always wanted to play Lucy but i never dared to dream because I'm not white. This has made my life and i HAVE DEFINITELY got to see this. Thank you for inspiring me to follow my dreams and not to doubt myself ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I found you
It’s amazing to hear that this production will speak to you on a personal level. I hope you love it and can see yourself as Lucy finally!
@@isthisryan7899 thank you I'm so excited to see it next year
Keep dreaming big Estar! We all doubt ourselves sometimes. Don't give in to it!!
"I grew up with the story as a little girl and always wanted to play Lucy but i never dared to dream because I'm not white"
Follow your dreams! I'm auditioning for the role of George Floyd right now.
Edmund looks older than Peter 🤣
And is he taller as well? Maybe its because they're hunched down a bit but I would've sworn that Peters actor would play Edmund and Edmunds actor would play Peter. But besides that seems like pretty great casting.
@@EpicEthra I do want to say this though, on a stage, where you have dozens of rows which means yards away from the stage. As long as you are not at the front you won’t tell the height difference, from what I could see.
Saw this tonight. The cast and show was amazing.
Ok so I’m confused. Why did they age the characters up so much?
Probably for ease of casting - the younger the children, the more rules there are about how long they can work, and thus the more of them you need for the show!
@@Lioness99a it makes sense but it’s just so odd to see three of the characters who are obviously in their mid 20’s playing those roles. The actress who is playing Lucy would have been a better choice for Susan. I mean they could have cast teens who look younger.
Yh I thin it's also just labour laws especially with all the props and moving set they'll be using for safety. I mean the railway children really worked and they were adults playing kids and narrating till the very end
Theyre African now as well :(
They are going two shows a day 5 days a week that would be hard on a child to do.
Child working laws would not allow that.
Omg I can't wait to see this, I grow up with the series on the BBC in the 1980s and reading the books my name is Lucy I am of Carribbean and English heritage, never thought I would see the day that I would be watching it and someone on stage that represents me this is amazing!!
This looks amazing i loved the film so much really shaped my childhood🤩🥺🥺🥰
Did they make the white witch black too?
lion witch and the wardrobe??? with a majority black/poc cast??? my mom is going to freak in the best way possible, she's in love with this story!
No mix cast is
@@jazmorrison9030 What?.
So you're interested in this because they're NOT white? Damn.
I am an American. I am seriously considering traveling to Great Britain just to see this show.
Same
If only you could, can’t travel there at this very moment.
I’m guessing you’re really not
@@afridgetoofar1818 I am. I just happen to be a big Narnia fan as well as theater fan.
They really gave this the Hamilton treatment, didn't they?
Just out of the UK and Ireland tour in Dublin and it was FANTASTIC. Such a beautiful show and excellent casting
Dear oh dear......
This looks so good!! I saw a stage show of LW&W when I was younger. Definitely going to try and get tickets for this!!
Oh wow
All these new shows, and yet none of them can get recorded to show online. Not all of us can fly overseas to see them.
@Amber Exactly!
Lucy looks spot on.
Yes, let’s rewrite all history. So brave.
This looks incredible!!!
'Stunning and Brave'
Holy crap that's some epic casting. They deadass look like the core of their characters personified. I could tell who was who immediately :o
Yeah, the movie was alright but they did fail with stuff that they shouldn’t have. This looks identical, physically, and their overall demeanor.
🥺 this looks wonderful!!!
I can't wait for the all white adaptation of the Lion King.
So what would happen if they put a full black cast but white...
When i tell you i *jumped* out of my chair
I'm really excited to see how they play the characters. In the books to me they come off as being heavily ethnically Euro-British. The black culture in Britain at the time was different than the white culture. Not as vastly so as here in the US but it is there. I'm really excited to see how their perspectives change the performance in New and exciting ways. That being said the core of the characters, their essence is a story that speaks to anyone from any background. These actors look amazing, their passion and excitement to play the characters I grew up loving is absolutely infectious. I can't wait to see their beautiful performance.
The black culture of where...1940s England?
So if the core speaks to anyone, why change them at all?
To eradicate the idea that Europeans ever had their own culture
There are subcultures where ever you go and 1940s England had black culture Indian culture, Chinese and much more. As for changing it it gives people who love the characters a chance to play the role they love but would have been passed over for. Which I think is important in theater. You can't discover talent as fully if you don't give people room to express it. :)
@@stormylou417 Oh right, so those actors were picked for their talent and love of CS Lewis lol. While we're here what's your problem with Lewis' work being "heavily ethnically Euro-British"?
I hope it comes to the US!!!!
Ikr
It probably will. Many West End shows begin in the UK before going to Broadway! I hope that it's the same casting.
Is this the same as what was showing in Kingston in like 2015? Cause I saw it and tried for ages to find a recording of the wicked witch's solo
the actors are not children
This looks awesome! I wish I lived in the UK
I’m sure they are talented but they look way too old for their roles. Maybe it reads better when they are on stage then it does in video. Excited to see it either way.
Too old and too, y'know...
black?
Blaaaackkkk peoooppplleed
Honestly they got me interested with the black casting of the main characters. Plus the shots of the show look amazing. Im jealous. When will it come to America?
So skin colour is important to you? Wow.
White cast is more believable
It’s Narnia
I would love to see this in America.
Watched today. I was on 2nd row fantastic
Never thought of this as a live show but it looks like the next lion king
Is this a musical or a play?
It’s a play but has musical aspects to it it’s really good
i think it's a play with an amazing soundtrack but not singing. Then again i may be wrong
It’s propaganda
I have been a Narnia fan for ages but I never even thought to imagine the Pevensies as people of colour. So to now see this... it's glorious. It legit gave me chills!
Okay Diversity. I hope that this would be successful
@em ! Thanks for the typo
Diversity = 100% black.
Are you gonna put this on?!
I love this series!
I’d love to go see this again got to see it in December in 2017 loved it. It was amazing highly recommend it
Oh my, this seems amazing 🤧
Honestly I saw this around three years ago and it was one of the best most magical pieces of theatre I have ever seen and I’m talking my whole family this time. Please, I urge you to go see this
💜💜💜💜
This is absolutely wonderful!!!
this looks amazing! I know nothing of this show but I was hesitant when I saw the title, but even just this trailer is making me tear up, I'd love to see this show
Wait there is a stage show of Narnia? How am I finding this now?
I love this! I hope it tours in the United States. I'd love to see this production :D
Absolutely wonderful!
im seeing this later this year and I'm so excited!!! the cast, set and puppets look incredible!!
This looks STUNNING, wish I could see it 😭💕
Holy shit this looks sooooo cool! 😍
This is gonna be a musical?! I never knew it will have one! I'm excited!
WOW....that looks amazing. I need to add this one to my list.
Ugh I wanna go so badly
I didn't realize there was a stage adaptation! Narnia was so influential to my childhood.
Omg I’m obsessed, I wish they were coming to the US 😭❤️
Just learning of this has brought about tears of such happiness! God bless Aslan!
Dislike
This looks FANTASTIC
i wish i could see this live omg
This looks gorgeous. I wish I could see this show. It would be so special for me to watch this story on the stage
ahhh this looks amazing! i wish i could go see it!
🤣🤣
We took a bunch of our Year 7s to see it last week - terrific show. Very clever adaptation and the technical aspects are stunning/baffling. See it if you can!
🥰🥰🥰🥰
It looks amazing and beautiful but the main actors look way too old to me, especially Peter and Edmund, not saying they need to be 13 years old but perhaps looking younger, but nonetheless it looks breathtaking
They may seem a bit old, but the show itself, aswell as the stunts and fight scenes would be way too much for a child or teenager to do eight times a week. Not even mentioning that their education would fall short on a tour.
But I definitely agree, it really looks amazing already!
@@loverofteaandspice perhaps, I just thought it would be like Charlie in the Chocolate factory where you have numorous child actors and such or have younger looking actors but besides teh point I bet they are great!
Its probably because its a tour. They would have to recast the main leads for every new city if they had actual teens. And its very uncommon for new actors to want to tour since they have to find transport and accommodation themselves most of the time.
Why is this not in America...I can't go overseas to see this😭😭😭😭😭😭 I want to see this so bad
Why cant you go over seas?
@@danthaman743 Need money....but the West End is always coming up with new and amazing plays that I want to see...it is on my bucket list to see 1 to 2 shows on the West End
I love it when the same group of wealthy people keep remaking western fictions with a non western cast. There's definitely no agenda going on here.
I am guessing you missed the sequels. most of the humans in worldnof Narnia are Pacific Islanders (Prince Caspian) or Middle Eastern/North African (The Horse and His Boy, The Last Battle). Even unfortunate case of using brownface to sneak in to enemy camp.
👃
@@mosesallowit2824 so? Brownface in the context of trying to blend in to escape isn't racist. Its smart.
This looks so good! Wish I could see it.
this looks so cool. Too bad I don't live in the UK.
OH MY GODD
This looks magical. A story that really fits live theatre.
I saw this at The Bridge Theatre and it was INCREDIBLE!!! Watch it if you can 🥰 The props, the set, the music, the costume, the lighting (and obvs the actors!!) were all phenomenal ✨✨✨🦁
Yawno
I love the black cast, it’s beautiful to see that for once!! And the set and costumes look amazing 😍😍 I wish I lived in the UK so that I could come and see it
When a very friendly guy has to play a character that betrayed his siblings.
UM MUSICAL DE NÁRNIA EU NÃO RESPIRO
Mariana 😍😍😍😍💋💋😁💋💋😁💋💋😁😁😷😷😷💋🇲🇽♿
No thanks.
I miss diversity in musical theatre.
Are you saying this play is diverse, or that it isn't?
