hi, the skin is really good, thank you so much for it. However are you plannign on updating it? If yes i think it would be really good if you added the old look of the notification when a friend starts playing
When I was growing up I saw the old steam UI on my dad's computer and my brother's computer and when I finally got steam on my own laptop it was the newer steam UI and it looked like garbage
It's so nostalgic, it's my favorite one even more so than the 2010s redesign, even though I never got to use it since I started using Steam in 2010. It's that feeling of nostalgia for something you never had or used at all. At least I got to enjoy a skin that made Steam look like it did in 2003 for a long time until Valve took out skinning support :(.
Tbh the new Steam UI is one of the best recent redesigns, it remains quite faithful to the way things were in the past. I do like the look of the old Steam, but that's probably more of a nostalgia thing. With many other sites/services/apps, the redesigns make things so much worse.
if you happen to read this, i randomly stumbled upon this video while hopelessly praying for someone to make some sort of mod or theme that brings back the old mid 2010s grey and blue theme and i just have to say, you are an absolute legend the fact you're still updating this even to this day, you're doing gods work. if it keeps getting updated in the future i'd gladly throw some coin your way as a thankyou for your effort and time.
My anitvirus was being a bit pedantic about downloading SFP but I managed to download and install everything and it looks AMAZING. Thanks for the new look.
unfortunately, it has not worked for me, it seems that some of the background colour changed but the actual ui or anything else hasn't, kinda a mix of 2013 and modern steam, any idea why this is happening and how can i fix it?
I don't like old UI's in general, seems like I have no nostalgia, but you do you! (also the reason performance has decreased is because steam now uses chromium for UI, which is the reason you can inject custom js and css in the first place)
Great job. I started using Steam in 2017, and I liked the interface then. But it always excited me to see the old ui, when I saw a black steam icon unknown to me in old videos.
Was looking in with moderate interest to see how this theme looked, only to see at 3:14, you're someone already on my friends list on Steam! I'm sure to give this one a good try, I always did miss the old theming, maybe at some point Valve will ease back into making custom themes a thing again.
Fun fact I still have a fully working old steam build backed up on my PC, Though the downside is that playing games on it is impossible considering, that steam will automatically delete any game i play on it after playing for like an hour.
Really good video, solid theme too! Only thing is now you can paste the files into steamui/skins/[skin name here] and select Skin in SFP but steamui is probably simplest.
started using steam in 2014 and back when the new UI dropped in 2019 i thought it looked better. Then the new new UI dropped last year and i was like "yeah this is the most practical one" But deep down i miss the 2010s UI because of nostalgia
Tanks a lot for this, i am getting tierd of those "modern UI" that always have oversized buttons and windows, they also usually perform way worseWe need to go back to UI that were designed for computer users and not for mobile phones and touch screen
idk if you still check comments on this or even work on your ui anymore but just thought I'd mention the achievements page is kinda buggy, unsure whether it's a millennium problem or a problem with your ui just thought I'd mention it incase this is still getting updates, regardless of that it's amazing :D
I like the green. Every Valve game after Steam and before Counter-Strike: Source had this theme. That also made the experience unified. CS2 should have this also, because it would call back to the CS 1.6, where Steam and every Valve game had the same theme.
DAMN thanks man this is cool i was trying to get the small image icons in library from old glory ui but didnt even work i kept having the crisp ui i didnt like it so i found this vid and its gooood
over 8 months later...Thank you for this Ivan. This isnt really worth it though due to having to always have SFP open. They have SFP injection on steam start option, but it doesnt work.
I really feel like downloading this UI and changing to it indefinitely, but I'm still unsure about the Steam rules and the Anti-Cheat system. Is anyone with good experience able to tell me if they've been able to use this with no troubles, and playing several games without getting banned?
Yeah, me. The guy who made the video. I don't make the patchers I've used and I don't really know what's going on under the hood. But they're open source so you can check yourself, and I've been using them for years with no issue
Here i'll copy and paste a reddit comment I found with the same question "Nope because it's Local and Steam overwrites any changes with every Steam Client update so your changes are only temporary. Plus it's a GitHub project and they don't ever host malicious software as Microsoft owns the site to auto-delete or DMCA delete all bad apps. There are many tools like it as SAM or SteamEdit and many other -All- being GitHub projects which Valve is also part of"
@@naii_ steam gets rendered as a webpage inside an app basically, all this does is replace the valve css files with yours on the fly. you cant really check for that, considering its the same filename and structure valve uses just with different values and anyways, valve has no reason to check if your steam client is using the right css files. i promise you they really dont care.
Thanks for making this! I started playing on steam in 2011 (when my dad brought home our first Windows 7 desktop, before I had to use one of two old Macs a PPC and intel both running tiger os which steam didn't support) this brings back so many memories, I always loved those hash marks on the top of the window that add texture. I'm currently running this on Debian with IceWM using a window vista theme and the two fit nicely together (though I might track down a windows 7 theme). By chance is there anyway to disable the modern shelves when using this theme for a fully authentic experience? Right now I'm just clicking on a random game in the left hand list to hide the shelves whenever I relaunch steam.
It would probably require javascript to force Steam on a game and idk how to do that. Steam DID have a grid view back then so I can make it look accurate, but the sucky behavior of those views being contextual instead of selectable would be hard (for me) to change.
do i have to inject everytime i start steam? also i dont notice performence difference, but i do love this very much thanks for making this so much!!!!!!!!
I tried to use SFP with a Windows 7 installation (on a rather underpowered, 2008 MacBook) but that just resulted in the entire laptop lagging, without the app ever actually launching. Is there a fix for this? I know it's not practical to have Steam or any games really on a machine that old but it's for a project I'm working on.
at this point the only thing you can do is to downgrade steam to a version before the library update in 2019. idk how exactly, but there's tutorials for it. whatever version of Steam you're on will receive similar support to those older ones.
hate to say it, i actually hate the current look of steam and the UI is laggy as hell at times even when on an M.2 SSD my library stutters, i prefer the older smoother steam
hey, i did but there were a lot of files in folder with themes(like steam 2015, 13 ...) so i take 2 files from main folder and put them to /steamui (sfp was working). I restarted steam, all ok but i have dark theme. (not lime-gray like in steam-2013). Just dark theme with old-ui elements. How can I fix that?
I wanna go back to green Steam... I was so upset when they broke the Metro skin for Steam, so I'm glad that you made this. Do you think there's a chance we could get a skin for this mod that adds the green Steam look back?
Thank you so much for the video but is there any way to get SFP working on Windows 7 x64 since the program crashes when I run the self contained version for Windows 10 x64? I know Steam does not support Windows 7 anymore but it still works and I'd really like to have this skin for my old Steam layout on Windows 7.
Does this also affect the steam overlay in-game? I personally started using Steam in 2019 so I can't recall anything old apart from the old steam overlay, which is the one I miss the most.
Seems a few people are finding this video!
If you like it, my main is @naii_ , there's better stuff over there. This channel is mostly abandoned :p
hi, the skin is really good, thank you so much for it. However are you plannign on updating it? If yes i think it would be really good if you added the old look of the notification when a friend starts playing

Nobody is interested in payday 3 or tf2 content though
i really like that "green and ugly" design actually
It's so nostalgic, it's my favorite one even more so than the 2010s redesign, even though I never got to use it since I started using Steam in 2010. At least I got to enjoy a skin that made Steam look like it did in 2003 for a long time until Valve took out skinning support :(.
If you played Half-Life or CS 1.6 or whatever you probably got to experience it's aesthetic long after the main Steam program changed.
the camo colors were rather fitting considering the shooters Valve were known for
bring it back
i think its nice.
UIs from the early 2010s were the best :(
true...
And The 2000's Too.

2003 2004 are best
They were not.

I love the new UI as well, but i have to agree with everyone that points out how much of a resource hog it is now.
@@dylanh333 Yep agreed, I think it's the most apparent with the chat. The old chat was just so simple and fast!!
@@dylanh333 yeah that's the only problem with Steam for me, overall it's great!
The redesign removed both skins and a majority of the console commands, as well as making things a bit chunkier in a bad way.
i love the new ui roo
I did not realize just how much I missed this theming until I installed the mod. Thank you for letting me relive my childhood
Shoutout to metro for steam
does it work for metro?
Glad to see you are still updating the theme after 2 years, keep up the good work!
if you happen to read this, i randomly stumbled upon this video while hopelessly praying for someone to make some sort of mod or theme that brings back the old mid 2010s grey and blue theme and i just have to say, you are an absolute legend

I thought the project would've ended when the new update rolled out, the fact that you made it even better now is amazing. Thanks a lot fren :D
this is the only "get the old steam ui" guide ive ever followed that has actually worked. thank you
man, you are a madlad for doing this, thx alot
My anitvirus was being a bit pedantic about downloading SFP but I managed to download and install everything and it looks AMAZING. Thanks for the new look.
I love old technology
unfortunately, it has not worked for me, it seems that some of the background colour changed but the actual ui or anything else hasn't, kinda a mix of 2013 and modern steam, any idea why this is happening and how can i fix it?
Works like a charm, even on Mac. The steamUI folder is in a slightly different location iirc, but I still got it to function.
*can't wait to have the same steam experience, my older brother had*
I love this but a 2014-2017 version would be cool too
thats what i really want
Same
Thank you so much :P managed to make my desktop look like it did back in highschool thanks to this ♥
This video deserves to blow up!
I don't like old UI's in general, seems like I have no nostalgia, but you do you!
(also the reason performance has decreased is because steam now uses chromium for UI, which is the reason you can inject custom js and css in the first place)
yea the whole thing is just a react app which is certainly a choice (I hate react)
Great job. I started using Steam in 2017, and I liked the interface then. But it always excited me to see the old ui, when I saw a black steam icon unknown to me in old videos.
Never was around that era of steam, but if there's one thing that I love is: old-school design of things
You are THE BOSS! Worked here, thanks buddy!

Thank you so much for making this!
I miss that in the steam's library you would also see some rotating screen shots on the game's pages.
doing gods work man, glad other people feel the same way about the ui
this is what it looked like when i started using steam, very nostalgic :)
when i drop skin in steamui/skins there is nothing showing up in steam settings - themes (I used millennium)
Dude, i remember steam like this when i was a kid and saw my brother have it like that.. Thanks, i love this one alot more
This is gold 😢
Good stuff man, I also miss the black era of Steam of the early 2010s. Such cool times.

Its a shame that it no longer works after the update
I updated it, it works fine.
love the little rant at the end ;)

honestly, thank you for this. I have never liked the steam ui. too messy and overwhelming. this makes it so much easier to read

We thank you for sharing your work.
I have steam for 19 years so next year will be 20 years of steam. I even used the drab green anticheat and serverbrowser steam :D
I really want Steam to look like 2003 again.
i gotta be honest, i like the new color palette. but i completely agree that the old ui design was a lot better

my only real question is, does this skin improve performance on low end pc? or is it just the same?
there's plenty of stuff removed, so yeah performance does get improved. Pretty drastically too for games that spam the Activity feed like PAYDAY 2.

either delete the theme or turn off whatever patcher you're using
Im proud to have tested it :3
Can I use your project as a base to make Steam skin for the 2019 version of the Steam client?

So what links are the best like is SFP or Millennium Patcher better. And what is better, Mod Page or Alternate Mod Page
Millennium is generally easier for most people to use. The Alt page links to Millennium.
i love you im going to donate to ur kofi when im not broke
This steam was pretty.
Cool stuff
