@@DougBugBuilder hi Doug I hope you see this message. I've got to be honest with you and I hope this doesn't sound too I don't know... Weird for lack of a better term I hope you're okay you seem to be a little stressed lately are you okay? Please if you read this let us know how you are doing. Thanks buddy
@@chuckingram5966 Hey Chuck, I'm doing fine thank you. I'm always a little stressed during summer as professionally I am in the HVAC industry. Warmer weather gets me very busy so It gets tricky to spend time on the build like I would like. But I'll get her done. lol Thanks for noticing and for the concern.
I recently picked up a 69’ Baja bug that will be getting a full tube chassis built for it.. Your channel inspired me to set out for another bug and build one also myself. This helps out a lot on how fabrication works. Wish we lived closer so I can get into great detail with questions on how and what to do! Great channel thanks for everything!
Looks great ,really suits it too, When I finally get round to mine I'm probably going to use polyester resin using the fleece blanket method so it's a bit more organic to make pods for gauges and speakers and an iPad kit from soundman so I'm going to have months of sanding and filling ahead of me , think I'd really struggle to do what you just did ,great job mate 👍
Hey Doug, have you considered building a small soundproof “dirty” room in the workshop where you can do all the grinding, sanding, cutting and contain the mess away from your builds? Love the videos, keep them coming!
Not so much a contained room. But I have an area up on the loft with a huge open barrel I can grind over for when I need to keep the grinding inside. I shoot the grinder into the barrel to collect the sparks then shoot a fan over me for fresh air. But some of the grinding debris still makes it into the air.
@@DougBugBuilder those welds on the dash are going to drive you nuts. Get yourself a small flapper wheel for your little angle grinder and take some of the weld down and shoot the two pieces flat black. Trust me
Looks great....I like aluminum better than the fiberglass look. Well done. Is their enough support and material thickness so that the piece does not vibrate at speed?
Put a layer of some kinda water proof coating between your rivnuts and your part. They are super handy, but if water gets in between there and rusts, you are in for a bad time. At that point, try to mushroom them more and pray it's enough holding power to drill it out.

Hey Doug. I had same weld problems on my fuel tank. Found that I was not preheating half as much as I needed too! I Still suck but I’m hoping someday. Lol Later Dude
I watched some of your videos to get input for fiberglass, it was really cool. And I hope this won't offend you. But your welds look really.. "special" 😅 did you clean the aluminum before welding? Looks like it wasn't, that helps a lot for the flow, this and using HF and pulse :) and thanks for the fiberglass Tipps, that was freaking instructive 😎👌👊
@@DougBugBuilder You can also glue some strong rare earth magnets any where on the opposite side where you want to hold or mount something metal. It will stay put without drilling mounting holes.
Hey man Kevin here from Australia. I don't know about the dash maybe its just the way the welds come across on camera. I think this is going to drive you nuts when its 1000 deg from the sun and possibly reflecting. What about rattling it will. But thats just my thoughts. Anyhoo please don't hate me . Stay safe man and keep healthy. Peace. ✌🏻
No worries Kevin, that's actually a good point. I never considered it shining back at me. On a positive note, anytime it shines at me now I'm going to think of you. 😉
Not in an offensive way bro, but...... you're building a rattle bucket. All that sheet metal is going to rattle big time once the engine starts. Either get used to ear plugs or insulate and carpet the interior. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I know from experience.
Yeah I wouldn't want to run any bass through it from a big system but with that smooth running engine and those decent shocks it should be pretty minimal, worst case scenario is painting the backside with silicone or using second skin audio deadening which actually wouldn't be a bad idea anyway but yeah it may buzz otherwise , it would with my Rockfords.
Believe me I get what you're saying. That's why I've been carpeting the panels. People ask why I'm carpeting an off road vehicle, and I say so it's not a rattle trap. Guess I'll find out soon enough. Thanks for the honesty. 👍
Your channel is so underrated.. you're super clean in your work.

Thanks for the comment, good luck with the build. You can always hit me up here and I'll help if I can. ✌
Doug, weld both sides of your welds and you can sand all of the welds and make those panels look like one piece .
I'm thinking about trying that. Didn't think about welding the backside. Thanks for the tip.
love watching the build Doug. keep up the good work. cant wait to see it airborne!!!
Thanks, you and me both! ;-)

I'm all for dashboard rivnuts but skid plate? I question that a bit
Such an inspiration, thanks for sharing as always 👍
Sure thing! Thanks for the comment.
Hai i have a doubt . Is mild steel used making thinking such as wheel hub, sprocket hub, steering knuckle, engine mount etc
Yes mild steel was used on most of the parts.
Is the strength of mild steel enough for wheel hub in my cbr 1000 buggy

Dash looks pretty good....I use 3003 Alloy when working with Alum..bends and welds nice any Plans to run the Mint 400? Liked the shirt!
Thanks, no plans on the Mint. Seems like that would be too costly. However I do hope to use this at events like Jump Champs and other various events.
I hope that doesn’t reflect too much light. Looks super cool for sure! Nice work
It would benefit from a flock-job.
Me too, I literally never even thought about that while I was making it. I could give it a more aggressive brush.

@@chuckingram5966 Yeah, I'm considering maybe sanding it to look like one piece. Never done that before, so not going to jump right into it.
Looks great....I like aluminum better than the fiberglass look. Well done. Is their enough support and material thickness so that the piece does not vibrate at speed?
It's pretty solid, but as it is it might vibrate. I'll most likely back it up with something to keep it quiet.

Well, let's make that 84 instead...

Looks good, though I doubt if it's doing to be very useful to hold anything, while driving. 😋
No, I've had enough aluminum welding... 😁

Honestly sometimes with aluminum I just can't get it clean. But it's usually only a real problem when tacking. Once I'm welding it's not to bad. 🤷♂️

My aluminum welds look like they do because I'm really not that good at welding aluminum. Never have been and never will be. 🤷♂️😉
Very nice!!!
