So, I"ve heard they're from California, but they're on a label called "Secretly Canadian." AND they spend the first 20 seconds of this song going "EH!"
+CT68 Hey, dude! This band has the California sound. As far as their 'Canadian' label? Recall that 45 years ago, Alice Cooper from Detroit had a guy named Toronto Bob on their album.
everyone here in the comments are really ripping on the quality of the music video. this is one of my favorite music videos, stop motion stuff like this isn't easy by any means. but at least we all agree that this is a great song!
Austin Leih produced by the late great Richard Swift (RIP). A production genius. Anyone that doesn't get it, never listened to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds. This is amazing production, and very intentional.
@@scorpiontx91 I think the 80s feel is due to the animation. That's the way a lot of MTV videos were made in the 80s. I also agree that kinda sounds like the 80s yet more so the 60s tunes.
Are you going to the party on Saturday?," she asked as if I didn't know See ever since I saw you on the back of some guy's bicycle Well, I've been feeling kinda so-so So, girl don't act so surprised Got that look in your light-blue eyes, you can stop pretending Yeah, I been watching the movie all along Wondering if there was gonna be an ending To the story, to the story, to the story - I guess I'll never know See, I was running as fast as I could Saying the things I thought I should, but it was just a little too slow [Chorus] Oh, Elizabeth, don't keep me guessin' I opened up the door and saw you undressing The words came out, one after another You shoulda been my high school lover, oh You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah You shoulda been my Oh-oh-oh You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah You shoulda been my Oh-oh [Verse 2] "Did you get the letters that I sent last summer?," You asked again and again Well, they been piling up on the top shelf in my closet Yeah, and I read them every now and then It's got me feeling kinda stuck like "What the fuck is going on? Someone tell me what is happening" Yeah, you been acting like you're too cool for far too long It's ok, it's just kind of embarassing See, I been sneaking, I been sneaking, I been sneaking Wondering just what I'll see You turned around and stared You squinted then you glared and I was leaning back in the passenger seat [Chorus] Oh, Elizabeth, don't keep me guessin' I opened up the door and saw you undressing The words came out, one after another You shoulda been my high school lover, oh You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah You shoulda been my Oh-oh-oh You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah You shoulda been my Oh-oh [Outro] High school lover High school lover High school lover High school lover High school lover High school lover High school lover High school lover
my English teacher made us listen to this today and it's been stuck in my head since! this song has a lovely Tame Impala vibe, but it's unique enough to stand on it's own.
This song just popped into my head today after years. I found it back in my Spotify Started playlist from before they changed it to liked, but the band name is "Oregon Bike Trails" on there, and they have one other song named Cayucas both from a single released in 2011. I assume that they just rebranded, but just thought it was interesting for some reason.
Serious Question. I always am really self conscious of my dance moves when i'm in a club/bar.. The way he dances at the end is basically what i look like dancing...Do i need a dance tutor?
Nah. You'll just look a bit dorkish. Instead of paying for a tutor, watch videos on RUclips. For example, I have learned several dances by simply slowing down the video and copying someone's moves shot-for-shot. It works
Im loving this video, it reminds me of an 80's wang chung video. "everybody have fun tonight" Anyways great song, interesting sound, great and memorable lyrics. Through and through, a great indie song with a pop sound.
Thanks to Alt Nation on Sirius i have found this awsome song but most important this band. This is one of my favorite songs. I enjoy seeing a Beatles like set up. The instruments and the way it was done. The next Beatles are right here. Thank you for the music.
My friend from music school told me we went to shool wiyh there guitar player so I checked them out. What a kick ass band! Love this song. I think these guys are gonna get big.
Hmm, so there’s this girl in one of my classes named Elizabeth. When I heard this cool song on Spotify, I suddenly remembered a single encounter with her. It was the last class of the day, I was about to submit a paper until she got my attention and asked what my name was. She then proceeded to comment something about my sweater I wore during that day, which I didn’t pay any attention for some unknown reason. I just shrugged it off and now I feel bad because if it was something good, she would of been my high school lover in that case...
Good music over high budget. This could play great live in an audience of most any size. Sounds awesome in my car with an audience of one. WYEP in the 'burgh turned me on. Thanks kids. Made me feel a lot less older. At 55 I can still like new stuff.
Not really a copycat. They just have a similar sound. Their other two songs don't sound like beck that much. They obviously are inspired by them, but being inspired and having a similar sound does not make a copycat.
The bass line is ripped off verbatim from Tommy Rowe’s mid 60s hit “Jam Up & Jelly Tight” (in the between the first and second chorus you’ll hear it) I still LOVE this song though.
It sounds super similar, but if it gives you any faith in the Cayucas at all it sounds like the Cayucas' bass line has at least two extra notes in theirs (maybe 4). There's at least one extra in the first five notes of Cayucas' bass line, and at least one more (I think three) in the back end. It's such a quick-moving line that some notes can be a little hard to hear (and the drumming actually obscures it a bit). Also, some of the notes in the back end of Cayucas' bass line are definitely higher than on Rowe's . Maybe the Cayucas heard Rowe and were inspired? But anyway, the note changes are enough to satisfy me, even though I hear the similarities and it is otherwise a little close.
Alt Nation, thank you!!!!! That has got to be the most clever video I have ever seen. These guys are at the top of my list now. Congrats to the producers, etc... If there are awards to be had for videos this one deserves them all! Bravo
We listened to the songs and wrote down adjectives (i.e. emotions) that described it. We weren't allowed to use words like "happy" or "exciting," we had to use vocab words and such.
reminds me of my last day of middle school driving home with my dad me and my father aren't on speaking terms now its funny how a song can evoke so much emotion good or bad 😕
What an awesome song / vid! I swear to god I can't stop watching it. There is just so much going on, both visually and sonically it's hard to keep up! The bass line is so freakin smooth and steady, just love it. What a great time it is for alternative music, seems like one after another after another.
wow really guys the original mix of this was perfect and one of my favorite songs EVER... when i got the vinyl i heard this you guys went from 60's sunshine to jack johnson and traded your deuce coup for a hyundai.... i was very disappointed dudes

That's just what an undercover Canadian would say. ;)
santa monica and secretly from canada is just a record label or company
Originally called Oregon Bike Trails I believe. Definitely a band from California.

I'd rather have good music than a 4 minute video that cost a million dollars to produce...

god damn, it's just good....
Outer Banks, Netflix.
Anyone else notice that dudes shaking a pineapple?
Travis Stedmond you're a pineapple...
Yes
There's a certain 80's feel to this.
It has more 60s psych rock vibes than 80s
@@scorpiontx91 I think the 80s feel is due to the animation. That's the way a lot of MTV videos were made in the 80s. I also agree that kinda sounds like the 80s yet more so the 60s tunes.

Are you going to the party on Saturday?," she asked as if I didn't know
See ever since I saw you on the back of some guy's bicycle
Well, I've been feeling kinda so-so
So, girl don't act so surprised
Got that look in your light-blue eyes, you can stop pretending
Yeah, I been watching the movie all along
Wondering if there was gonna be an ending
To the story, to the story, to the story - I guess I'll never know
See, I was running as fast as I could
Saying the things I thought I should, but it was just a little too slow
[Chorus]
Oh, Elizabeth, don't keep me guessin'
I opened up the door and saw you undressing
The words came out, one after another
You shoulda been my high school lover, oh
You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah
You shoulda been my Oh-oh-oh
You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah
You shoulda been my Oh-oh
[Verse 2]
"Did you get the letters that I sent last summer?,"
You asked again and again
Well, they been piling up on the top shelf in my closet
Yeah, and I read them every now and then
It's got me feeling kinda stuck like "What the fuck is going on?
Someone tell me what is happening"
Yeah, you been acting like you're too cool for far too long
It's ok, it's just kind of embarassing
See, I been sneaking, I been sneaking, I been sneaking
Wondering just what I'll see
You turned around and stared
You squinted then you glared and I was leaning back in the passenger seat
[Chorus]
Oh, Elizabeth, don't keep me guessin'
I opened up the door and saw you undressing
The words came out, one after another
You shoulda been my high school lover, oh
You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah
You shoulda been my Oh-oh-oh
You shoulda been my Oh-ooo-woah
You shoulda been my Oh-oh
[Outro]
High school lover
High school lover
High school lover
High school lover
High school lover
High school lover
High school lover
High school lover

Yes, Oregon Bike Trails was their original band name.
Saw these gentlemen live at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco, summer of 2019. Perhaps the best band currently playing.
what happened to these guys? I love this tune!!!
first song i've heard with my name in it!
Listen to 'Its Elizabeth' by Part Time!

I was singing this out loud all day today. I almost forgot my mom's name is Elizabeth. :l
Im loving this video, it reminds me of an 80's wang chung video. "everybody have fun tonight" Anyways great song, interesting sound, great and memorable lyrics. Through and through, a great indie song with a pop sound.
I love the retro 60's sound

Thanks to Alt Nation on Sirius i have found this awsome song but most important this band. This is one of my favorite songs. I enjoy seeing a Beatles like set up. The instruments and the way it was done. The next Beatles are right here. Thank you for the music.
