    Thanks for this video, saw someone selling a Seahorse with cracked crystal for a low price and I was thinking about trying to change the crystal myself, but thanks to your video I now know that's a lot more hassle than what is worth dealing with for me

    Thank you for sharing this great video!! This watch is gorgeous! The balance wheel seems a bit wobbling in the video, but maybe that was because it was missing the anti-shock jewel. Again a stunning restoration!

    I watched both episodes back to back as a full-length feature, and my attention didn't wander at all. Excellent videos, Mr Perrett, thank you. Obviously it's going to be a videographer's nightmare, but footage of coaxing the jewel retaining clips out and back in again would be exceedingly helpful if you can find a way to do it.

      Hi GenWivern2! That is so good to hear! I am investing soon in some new camera equipment so I can shoot closer in and with improved focus and quality. When I have mastered using it I will do a video which includes the removal and reinstallation of the cap stones and clips. So please you like these videos. Richard

Funnily enough I had a question from a chap asking if a quick squirt of WD40 in the back of the movement would so it any harm so the thought has passed other folks minds! There's one on eBay about 250. Funny cos when I was looking at an Invicta you'd done a review of it. Then I was looking at the bulova sea king and you'd done a review of that. Now I'm looking at this stunning seiko and here we are. Pretty cool. One question. What do you think of Orient watches. I'm looking at the new divers with sapphire. Thanks your vids are great

    A bit late to the party... but congrats for the video and the service. I also video all my services (but I do not upload them all to youtube... have to restart thtoug) as a customer service. Some like it, some just do not care. Yet I do have a question regarding the liquid you used to clean the balance wheel and the incabloc jewels: What liquid are you using, and most interestingly, are you recycling it (i.e. filtering it to reuse it a number of times, due to the high cost)?

    • @richardperrettwatchmaker

      Hi George, Bergeon one dip ... I really should start reusing it as it is hardly touched in one service and remains extremely effective. I actually don't atm and am going to more out of pocket than I otherwise would be. Decant into a smaller glass jar (has to be glass, do not put this stuff near plastic as it eats right through it quickly) and then dunk until renewing from main jar look prudent I think would be good modus operandi. Hope this helps. Richard

      @@richardperrettwatchmaker thanks Richard, very informative. Is tthere a proper alternative to the Bergeon branded product (which comes witha premium just because of the brand name...) I used a similar product (Anchor hair spring solution) but I amt really happy with the results, and the 20ml plastic flask quickly let the vapors out...

      Hi Rumen ... good to hear from you! Yes I am sure the case back has a gasket, not to do so would be inviting a lot unnecessary trouble (fogged glass and the like!). Just measure the recess and buy one that is 0.2mm oversize in the vertical plane. Then when you torque it down it will be water tight. Hope this helps. Richard

    Watched a lot of your videos but I own one of these. Belonged to my great uncle, along with a Garrard's gold piece which I wore until the crown twisted off (manual wind).
    The piece I have keeps time, but it quite a bit fast and the face has seen better days but I'd like to address that time keeping if nothing else what would be his take from a servicing perspective?

      Hi .... you could try getting just a regulation but if the power rain is gummed up a bit then this is good money after bad. A full service would sort it but it would cost about £120 - £160. Hope this is helpful. Richard

      @@richardperrettwatchmaker Thanks Richard. It's a shame really, but a lot of these movements were never really made to be serviced outside of their working lifetime I suppose. Shame though as I do love the size, character and simplicity.

    Hi Richard, I have a vintage seiko quartz I bought in the 70's . I believe it has a 7546 842L (?) movement. Is the watch worth anything to a collector or does it just have historic value?
    Thanks in advance .
    Kevin

    • @scc2236
      @scc2236 2 года назад

      Unfortunately (or fortunately!) 70s quartz isn't very hot with collectors currently, even though the 7546 in particular is a very well-constructed metal jeweled movement.

    Enjoyed the video,thanks! hav a question,may be a dumb one but I’m gonna ask anyway,,would it hurt to spray a movement with WD 40 or some other silicone spray? Thanks

    • @marcusjenkins
      @marcusjenkins 5 лет назад +2

      Yes. It would hurt. A lot. The first of many bad things is that the hairspring would become soaked in oil, with capillary action holding oil between the turns, effectively making it much shorter and then, if it runs at all, it will run very, very fast. Then the dial and lume will probably be ruined. And then note that a mechanical watch needs different lubricants in different places, like a car. Some parts should be greased, some parts need a very light oil. Watch lubricants run from expensive to very expensive - they are very specialised and need to function 24x7 for at least 5 years without drying up, etc.
