She deserved her fame she had been through a lot form being taken from person to person.being physical abused by white folks. and being homeless before being in Shuffle Along. She saved all her kids life's by adopting them. People didn't get it then we do now she had adopted her kids so they wouldn't grow up like she did. And i commend her for that and much more.

Thanks so much for posting this clip. I was a kid when Josephine was in her twilight, and like most youngsters, I didn't know or care anything about music beyond what was playing right then, or the artists that performed it for that matter. We grow up eventually, and some of us regret our aggressive ignorance. This movie was moving and this song ended it beautifully.

I got a chance to meet Lynn Whitfield in Hollywood and I told her I really loved her performance in this film. She thanked me and we took a pic. Memories

Love to hear your story I also met Lynn before she filmed the movie atJC Baker restaurant in NYC because I had the immense privilege and the honor to have worked with the original Miss Baker so every time I see the ending I cry like a baby. . I was the youngest dancer in the cast . The show was called “ Josephine “ It was based on her life story celebrating her 50 years in show business from her humble beginning in St Louis to her triumphant comeback in Monte Carlo ....She used to call me “ her little page “ (Son petit page )cause of my age ! I just turned 18 th on April 1st 1975. I have tons of memorable pics from the show as well as unforgettable stories of this short but amazing Run check my clip with many photos just type.”Josephine baker and me Cittaroma p “. She was extremely engaged with all of the dancers like a second mother . Wanting to know everyone ‘s names Josephine really truly care about people She was a true legend immensely talented beautiful ,elegant ,generous , humble & kind . She would bring oranges for the entire company saying “ My children you need lots Vit C for strength and energy “ She was so right cause the rehearsals were long and grueling ,,,. Bobino ‘s stage was too small to accommodate a cast of 8 boys 12 girls 3 comedians 1 little girl (who played young josephine ) and 1 gorgeous dancer who performed the famous banana dance ....so they had to transformed the stage by expanding it ; including putting additional seats in the theater and building brand new dressing rooms to accommodate such a big cast all while we were practicing in the lobby of The theater. ! It was bit chaotic to say the list & quite cold being mid -February But no one seemed to care cause it was so exciting to be part of this legendary show ! None of the big Paris music ‘halls like Le Casino de Paris ,Le Moulin Rouge or les Folies Bergére wanted to take the risk producing Miss baker mostly for insurance purposes There were already rumors circulating of her failing health but finally a small theater on Paris left bank called Bobino took a chance ...Josephine liked to rehearsed late at night after we were done .She even enjoyed having her favorite dish Spaghetti bolognese around 1 am at a restaurant right across the theater. I will never forget the 1 st time I saw her performing once the stage was finally ready. That night She was in the audience watching us dancing with huge smile on her face applauding many times throughout being so proud of the cast. After all she was watching part of her whole life story in front of her eyes. ... In fact during the promotion of the show a French journalist asked her. “ How does it feel to be the starring in a musical retrospective of your own life story ? She replied “ it’s wonderful ..At least i will get to see what they think of me when I am still around !!!! I When we were done the director Andre levasseur said “ josephine c ‘ est a vous “ she jumped on stage and belt a song from the Brazilian number called” Que c‘est bon de vivre” She seemed to be completely possessed by the rhythm of the Afro Cuban sound very reminiscing of “Princess Tam-Tam “ all those years earlier Her moves were so unbelievable. Her body was in perfect shape specially in her Chanel suit !!!! There is No way you would have guessed that this beautiful lady was in her late 60 ‘s. A goddess still !!!! What thrill for me. A true MASTER CLASS ,,,,,,, I just wanted to make few points . We rehearsed the show for about 1 month and half . We actually did more than 4 performances. We started with one week of previews on March 25 th with a special Press night on march 31 st to glorious reviews ! We had another full week of performances with a big opening gala on April 8 th with stars like Grace Kelly Sophia Loren & Alain Delon among many however neither Jackie ‘O ,Diana Ross Shirley Bassey or Liza Minelli ever attended any of performances . We had another show on the 9 th . She felt into a coma the 10 th and past in the early hours on the 12 th. We were invited VIP at her funeral ..Miss Baker had full military honor at la Madeleine church She reposes at the cemetery of Monaco. I went recently to pay my respects 45 years later. Josephine paved the way for Diana Ross Madonna Beyoncé and many other artists. A true legend. Unparalleled. ❤️❤️❤️. Lynn Whitfield did a good job. This movie was based on English documentary call “chasing a rainbow “. It’s so hard to do a movie on her life in less than 2 hours. Miss Baker deserve another biopic on a streaming venue like Netflix or Amazon . with at least 8 episodes. So you can get deeper into her incredible life. Her legacy needs to live on forever more than ever. ❤️😘🍌🕺💃🥰♥️😍

Like most people all I knew was the exotic, sexy, ahead of her time- that's the act, the reality? Until 2021 never heard her interviewed- adopting all those kids, hmm, before Mia and Angelina- Josephine Baker was what a global citizen should be- what do the French "get" that America doesn't? I walked past pictures of Josephine Baker on the walls at my school like they weren't even there, but this movie made me ashamed of that and inspired me to find out about her. Years later I shared what I learned with my kids. Please don't make it Lynn or this movie vs Josephine. It's a tribute. I think JB would have enjoyed it.

Sorry, Lynn Whitfield did a great job of portraying Josephine Baker, but Diana Ross had been a fan and studied her for years. She would have made this role EPIC! Just like she did with Lady Sings the Blues. Josephine was a recording artist like Diana Ross so along with the film, she would have given us an album of Josephine Baker's music. And while Diana Ross can dance, I think she would have probably insisted that clips of Josephine Baker actually doing the dancing be used instead of her trying to do them herself, like Lynn Whitfield did. Josephine's dancing was legendary. She danced like she had no bones, and she learned to dance on point like a ballerina. And if you look at her closely, you can see she was doubled jointed, even in her fingers. That's one of the reasons she rose above all others when it came to performing. Diana Ross would also shown that Josephine was a business women with a line of hair care products and owned her own nightclub which attracted the most famous people of her time, including people like Ernest Hemingway and Princess Grace Kelly. she would have shown that Josephine also learned to ride horses and fly planes. There were so many important things about Josephine Baker that Diana Ross would have put on the screen. Lynn Whitfield did a great job, but Diana Ross would have made the role Legendary! Diana Ross is a diva, but so was Josephine, according to her adopted son. It's our loss that they passed over Diana Ross for that role.

All she gave & forever will be. What amazes me is the same government that kicked her out of her mansion that housed her & her children she worked and sacrificed for, put on this lavish funeral procession. Politic BS isn't it something.

This is a horrible movie. Bakers real recordings weren't even used (she was a singer of FAR better talent than the garbage heard here). Her spectacular stage shows weren't recreated, and most of the portrayal of her life is a lie.
