Haha the Satist Brian from Toronto got you right away, first question. Lol. I watched this tag of his the day he posted it and through the video I kept saying to myself there's no way I had anything in my collection to complete even a third of those questions. Good effort David
Thanks for the shout-out David. My heart is not pounding at the sight of an old '86 R21 as my father-in-law used to drive one of those back in the day, and you know and him and I - how should I put it?... Well, I used to own a 1986 R11 TXE hatchback myself when I was 21y old (in the year 2007). It was my second car and I've got really good memories of those days, like these great feeling of freedom I was enjoying when I was touring France and Germany, listening to Ultravox, New Order and some Italo Disco stuff out loud, twas a great time in my life.
Absolutely hilarious, David! That Go Betweens packaging, and the way you handled it, had me in stitches. Emancipation is full-on, funky and far out! 😍 45 minutes went by very quickly...Cheers! 🙏
Good on yer David! It's nice to have a bit of a challenge and I do enjoy Brian's channel. So I've been thinking about this today and how I need to tweak some of the questions to make this doable for me.
Awww... and I thought you had been inspired by my entry into Brians tag! 🥺 Oooh, those stickers!!! Man I hated those 😄 Look at that Go Between CD go! Hey, good live link. Great Simple Minds as well. I really like Emancipation. Bought it when it came out and I was at school in Denmark. Great entry David.
The intro to this video is fire! I had to watch it twice. I may well be "Some sort of a sadist!" Ben Rankins also told me that they did not have longboxes down under either. I hated those sticky foil seals on CDs. That is a weird package on that Go-Betweens CD. Top of the Tots! That is is my favourite Simple Minds record! Brilliant album. I am a prince fan, but I have never heard Emancipation! I'm impressed, which means that if I ever do this again (unlikely) I will have to come up with more difficult questions. This video put a smile my face! Excellent 👍
Blimey! Well done for having a go at this one! I wouldn't know where to start since I could only really answer two of the questions (flexidisc and live) I don't have any flexidiscs now but back in the day the only ones I had were two given away with the NME. One was a minimix of tracks from Alice Cooper's "Billion Dollar Babies" a week or two before the album came out. The second was a similar thing from Monty Python from one of their albums but they put a lot of work into it and added some mickey-taking of NME and marketing tactics with some funny original material exclusive to the flexidisc. I DO actually bow own this on a 7" single as they recreated it on proper vinyl for a box set of all their CDs. Glad to have it in that format! As for the "live gig record you attended". Well I was at a Skids gig in London a few years ago that got released by the band, and also one from Band of Skulls in Southampton (their, and my at the time, home town). Not a full commercial release though as Abbey Road followed them around and you pre-ordered the CDs at the start of the gig and then collected them at the end of the gig. Super-fast turnaround, and a great souvenir. A shame more bands don't do this although in general I avoid live gig records as I generally find they don't get played once or twice, the exception to the rule being Hawkwind's "Space Ritual" which I'd argue is actually as good as, if not better than any of the band's studio albums. By the way, you mentioned Vinni Reilly in your last video and not knowing much about him, I saw him perform 12 years ago when he was one of the acts supporting a music for mental health charity in Portsmouth. Terry Hall DJed and Bonehead also appeared with his band. A band I supported and did a vdeo diary for, Stefikie, also appeared and you can see Vinni's perforamnce with his band "Parlour Flames" in this video at the 13 minute 18 second marlk ruclips.net/video/J5lq0ayP6zY/видео.htmlsi=I-PZy7XRem9vtNbq
Cheers! That 'Billion Dollar Babies' flexi was the first thing that came to mind, even though it went missing from collection sometime in the 1980s! I wasn't much of an Alice fan, but that album is my favourite. I wonder if they ever released that flexi mix as a bonus on any reissues? 'Space Ritual' is excellent, and I'd love to have it on vinyl. I only have the CD, although there's a mega-box that's available (CD only though). That idea of printing CDRs for collection shortly after the gig is a great idea, and like you, I don't know why more bands don't try it. I saw Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds in November, and didn't enjoy it (far too loud, even for my ears), but I would have 100% been in the queue for a CD recording of the gig. I'll take a look at that Vinni Reilly clip. After buying and listening to that box set, I immediately bought a couple of vinyl Durutti albums. Still in the -To Listen To- pile.
@@davidatkinson-Music-and-More The "Space Ritual" box set is overkill - essentially the same set in different venues repeated across multiple CDs but I had to get it for the Atmos surround sound mixes - which are magnificent. If ever a band were made for Surround Sound then it's Hawkwind. By the way they reissued a double vinyl copy of "Space Ritual" around the same time as the CD box set. It's not as luxurious as the original packaging was but it is a gatefold release and the pressing is solid in my view. Available from Cherry Red direct I believe
@@SoundReviewsUK I'll check-out Cherry Red. Thanks for the tip. I didn't mention earlier that I saw them live for the first time around five years ago in Birmingham. They put on a great show. Loved it.
“It’s clear that he’s some kind of sadist”…”This should only take about 45 minutes “…I’m in full agreement with you on that CD packaging analysis. That foil adhesive crap was terrible on jewel boxes. I have a CD copy of Birth Of The Cool. Nice one. I got heavy into jazz in the late 90s and have many of the category of “what I consider essentials”. …in total agreement on the cover art on Three Sides Live. Excellent compilation from Jill’s collection. 😂 I have 12” singles of Come Back and Sinful. I love the Pete Wylie stuff. New Gold Dream. Outstanding! I thought I had a lot of their 12” singles, but you showed a couple I don’t have. I have a couple of Flaming Lips albums, but on CD. That gigantic boxset had me laughing big time! Go Bills! Expect some merch in the mail soon. ✌️
Cheers mate! As you like Pete Wylie's stuff, have you tried Ian McNabb's? His album 'Head Like A Rock' is epic. Much of it has Crazy Horse supporting him, if you like that kind of thing. That gigantic box set is one reason why you need to be careful about getting too interested in classical music. 🤭
Great answers to this tag.. at first I was like.. easy tag.. i can do the difficult tag but the more I thought about it, kinda difficult.. so after watching your response.. i'm going to give it a stab. Thanks for the motivation. I enjoy your videos' and love your perpective. Chris in LA.
Yes we did have a few long boxes in UK.!!! I've just purchased a preowned but near mint Thank You For the Music - ABBA. Greatest Hits 4 cd compilation The 1st 1994 release (also identified by individual serial numbers on the back was before they remastered & compressed the sound on their catalogue - so sounds much better than any issue of Gold /More Gold 🎶👍
That Brian is a tricky dicky - have been gathering my thought for this tag - agree on the long box being rubbish and the sellotaped things were even worse ! Nice Simple Minds collection- great extended mixes on those . Sound great too - 🎉 Catch you laters
Brian, a sadist. I like it. I am a big fan of The Go-Betweens but that packaging is pretty worthless. My first trip to Europe was to Paris and I rented a Renault that broke down on my way to Mont St. Michel. That's what I think about when I hear Renault. The rental car company replaced it with a Mercedes and we didn't have any more problems. I still need to get that Simple Minds album. Nice Prince sets. Great response.

@@davidatkinson-Music-and-More A prize! I wish I had thought of that, but then it would have been a contest and not a tag. I will keep it in mind 🙂

Yes, that must be Embryonic just messing with us.
Nice tag, David.
As a massive Prince fan I don’t disagree as regards Emancipation. However still think a double would have sufficed. All opinions.

Way too many tags, imho. All getting a bit silly. But admirable that you give them a go.
Hope you’re keeping well David…
Not bad Mike, thanks. I know there's loads of tags around, but I'm enjoying the challenge. Probably not great for viewing numbers though. 🥴
That 3 inch CD single's packaging is either genius or idiocy, it's hard to tell which. 🚦
Absolutely!
