When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.
From Blumhouse, the producer of The Black Phone, Get Out and The Invisible Man, comes an intense suspense thriller for our modern age, starring BAFTA award-winner James McAvoy (Split, Glass) in a riveting performance as the charismatic, alpha-male estate owner whose untrammeled hospitality masks an unspeakable darkness.
Speak No Evil stars Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, Halt and Catch Fire) and SAG award-winner Scoot McNairy (Argo, A Quiet Place Part II) as American couple Louise and Ben Dalton, who, along with their 11-year-old daughter Agnes (Alix West Lefler; The Good Nurse, Riverdale), accept the weekend-holiday invitation of Paddy (McAvoy), his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi; Game of Thrones, The Fall) and their furtive, mute son Ant (newcomer Daniel Hough).
Written for the screen and directed by James Watkins, the writer-director of Eden Lake and the award-winning gothic ghost story The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil is based on the screenplay of the 2022 Danish horror sensation Gæsterne, written by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup. That film earned 11 Danish Film Awards nominations, the Danish equivalent of the Oscars.
Speak No Evil is produced by Jason Blum (Five Nights at Freddy’s, M3GAN) for Blumhouse and by Paul Ritchie (McMafia, The Ipcress File) and is executive produced by Beatriz Sequeira for Blumhouse, Jacob Jarek and Christian Tafdrup.

He does a great job at acting crazy. I wonder if they'll keep the original ending.
Not only is James McAvoy one of the best actors working out there right now, but he’s probably one of the top three best face actors I’ve ever seen. He’s just so good with expressions!

James McAvoy can deliver so many unspoken lines with a squint of an eye or an upward motion of his bottom lip. Even a twitch in his eyebrow can say something sinister so loudly. He’s a true talent. Love all his films!
My exact thoughts! He should win an award on this one! Just saw the movie today, and it was such sinisterly awesome movie!

The shocking thing about "Speak No Evil" is the depiction of our inability to defend ourselves against harassment: accepting minor everyday rudeness from others in the name of peaceful coexistence, politeness, good behaviour; and in more serious scenarios, showing how defenceless a civilised individual is against these inhuman manipulators The cast's performances and the overall narrative direction remain solid, successfully creating a deeply unsettling weekend experience.

If this movie doesn't do great at the box office, blame the trailers for giving away all the plot and twists away.
True!!!!!
They gave everything away😩
I mean… it’s a remake soooo…
It’s a remake with a higher budget. Spoiler they kill the mother and father and steal their daughter and kill the boy. It’s just insane serial killer couple that can get away with their stuff because the protagonist are sheep. This movie is extremely aggravating to watch. If that was their goal bravo they nailed it.
This is a remake of the original Dutch film
Thank you for showing me the whole movie. I can see they barricade themselves in the house, and he breaks in, and they escape in his car and are chased. Wow!

James Mcavoy acting is superb. Just saw the film. Wow. One of the great actors today.
How does Mcavoy manage to stay in such good shape at his age? Amazing actor btw, can’t wait to see Patricia I mean James on the big screen again 👏🏻

This film is based on the Danish and Dutch film with the same name. Highly recommend it, probably one of the best horror movies of 2022 and one of the best I've seen in recent years. No unnecessary jump scares, just consistently scary, uncomfortable and creepy.
I watched the original movie, it was perfection. What I don't get is why did they make a remake of it??? Like with Goodnight Mommy, it didn't need to!

That just showed literally everything, including what the parents did to their mute son. The whole premise rests on the uncertainty of the danger and they spent half the trailer showing how it all goes down.
Im gonna take a guess and say they’ll change the ending for American audiences versus the original Danish ending
Yeah, this looks awful.
I mean it’s a remake so you kinda already know the plot anyway if you’ve seen the original. Ah, they ruined the movie. Kid has tongue cut out as he belongs to a different family that was taken previously. My bet is they are in the basement/cellar scene. Hence, why it's called "see no evil." All the surprise is gone. I am skipping this. This is the problem with movies today.

The art of trailers has been going down hill for years,
The original film was... very disturbing
Yeah this trailer is Cast Away level spoilery.
@@glitzgarcia8281 It was, but this one is much better and has a vastly improved climax/ending.
Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy teaming up again they were fantastic in Halt and Catch Fire.
And obviously James McAvoy giving me serious Split vibes.
Looks like this family puts up a bit of a fight in this one. That was my only issue with the original, but it was a great watch.
i was livid with the dad on the original one
I actually loved that about the original - that it dared to show characters who were genuinely weak, breakable and unable to handle a dangerous situation + the grim consequences of these traits.
All Americans (regardless of gender and age) are able to kill themselves out of any situation in at least 50 various ways, so it's only natural a remake would adress such cultural differences.
That drove me crazy, the most cowardly characters in the history of storytelling. But yes, looks like this family might be naive but are at least going to go out swinging.
@@thehitherto5348 I think the only cultural difference I can see from the trailer is that a complex film rich in ambiguity and human emotion has had the intelligence dumbed down and the violence turned up for popcorn munchers with a short attention span.
That was the whole point of the original. That politeness gets taken too far. You cannot offend people, especially a host. It was a Danish director who thinks that Danes are too polite and scared of making waves. So they just keep getting led further and further into danger, rather than being rude.
James Mcavoy is an insane actor!
This spoils way too much. I went into the original blind and made it so much better!!
So, did I and I loved it 😊
They legit spoiled the kidnapped boy. Forced to play the role of the murderous couples son. lol
No way I could watch this movie. I would be terrified. James McAvoy is such a superb actor. I saw him in person in a play in London and he was excellent. Although the range of characters he has played is wide, he does menacing men perhaps the best of all

When I first learned that a Hollywood version of "Speak No Evil" was coming and that James McAvoy would be in it, I thought he would play the weak man’s character, as both actors look quite similar. In my mind, Karl Urban was the choice for the villain.
Good choice and he sorta looks like the Patrick
Why did you think that? Just curious
Hahaha makes sense from a “Billy Butcher”😂. But I do kinda agree, more distinguished Macho man, than the skinnier guy that James McAvoy USED to be. James acting as psycho is pretty unique & seems almost untouchable.

At the end when he says "that is very sweet of you too say" sends chills especially with his facial expressions. James mcavoy is a phenomenal actor and is going to nail the role of the villian.
Also the danish one is brill and i like how it seems in this one they seem to try and fight back.
Cant wait to see it 😂
I love this because it’s based on what could really happen. It’s really sad sometimes that either the host or the guest is the danger. Back in Ancient Greece there is a rule that the host and guest are supposed to treat each other with mutual respect when it comes to hospitality and it’s in many cultures as well. Right now though it’s 50% dangerous to ask/be asked for shelter for the night by a stranger. Or hitchhike or travel by yourself in another country.

I just saw the movie. And after I read the comments I watched the original one. Here is my opinion. The American version is much better with world class actors. The main difference is that the European one doesn’t have happy ending which was very disturbing.
The scene where they cut out her tongue was extremly memorable and horrific cant beleive they let it out. Guess its to much for mainstream cinema.. I like the bad ending more because the dude doesnt deserve to live after all the supidity.
