    Jerry I hosted Canlanta 2013 Jamie attended pro bono of course. She told me you were chilling in the Keys. I bought a set of AAW M20 paired with a Dragonfly black. The presentation was completely linear. I went from 9 rows back to front row to onstage. No headstage, but decent detail retrieval and speed. BTW I still wear and have my black JH Audio t shirt she gave me. She told me roadies wear black. She and her husband Mr. Penrod were incredible attendees. I hope my gig enhanced your sales. I loved the JH 13’s, the 16’s had too much bass. I will try and touch base with Jamie and get a set of JH 13’s. Just wanted to say JH AUDIO was the Super Star of CanLanta 2013.

    I know of Ultimate Ears as they make the high cost custom stuff. Only now you can get custom IEM's from China with dip switches for $230 or so with custom face plate designs, etc. Now you can get 8 drivers per ear, for €60 China and ChiFi are taking the West apart.

    • @dwigtscott9552

      The craftsmanship and tuning of the iems from premiere companies ain’t the same from Chifi companies. You get what you paid. The quality and build are a world apart. Coming from owning 64 audio & kz.

    • @kronos1794
      @kronos1794 2 года назад +2

      @@dwigtscott9552 diminishing returns is very real for audiophiles. Chifi is simply releasing affordable iems that can compete with more expensive American iems. 64 audio is good, but in a world where $700 chifi iems can compete with them it just comes down to how much disposable income you're willing to spend.

    People always manage to confuse dynamic range compression with mp3/aac data compression - before starting a talk like this someone should make sure everyone understands the difference.

    In the last 10 minutes, Mr. Jerry Harvey speaks on something that is going to develop while my company is working around this the last 3 years now, and i can't wait to have some competition on this.. xaxa.
    Well in my opinion, the hardest work isn't in any of all of theses features in this IEM but i have to say that is very impressive though. The big problem is to have a portable system with REALTIME DSP capabilities, with a touchscreen interface in as small form factor case that is powered up my 2 or 4 small batteries something like the receiver beltpack of these days.. Having that in mind the whole idea is getting even worse if you think and try to answer this question.."How about to control my IEM from an app using my iOS or Android smartphone?"... This is where i (my company) have been working into this the last 1 one year now, and this is the one of some most difficult situations to resolve, cause having the issue of Real-time monitoring, none of the above (iOS or Android) smartphones hardware or software is capable right now to run real-time DSP eq,dyn-comp,multiband comp,limiter etc.. without any Latency issues. SHARK or SigmaStudio processors may be the answer...or not?
    maybe Mr Harvey is already know? ho knows.... ;) ...
    Nice video and speaking.! :D

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 9 лет назад

      OK, i really don't think common hardware platforms, be they Android or iOS based, are too slow for 10band eq + a dynamic processor. Or what DSP you need? In fact i think i could implement EQ+dynamics even on the built in DSP of the old Soundblaster Live, and that's a piece of crap compared to any modern processor, whether DSP or application-oriented.
      Latency has two sources. One source is the interface. On iOS, you can get low latency-ish (well urgh) audio, on Android you can not, but neither is a hardware issue. I think you can start off a hardware of Android device if you can get QNX for it, or just stay with Android and work around large parts of the Android system and have your own pathway from audio in the kernel to the processing software. You'll do away with most of this kind of latency at some point.
      Other source is the algorithmic latency. IIRs are gonna do just fine, and in EQ use e.g. are very little computational impact too. You really need to get this right.
      I think you should segment the problem space better. You want a device which speaks Bluetooth so you can control it from a handset - perhaps forget about it having its own controls and a display at first. Get a PC running Linux stand in for your DSP, get it to process audio by your algorithm, work on your algorithms, work on your mobile apps. Disregard the interface latency and care only about algorithmic latency. Then judge the performance of your algorithm (do use whatever old or weak hardware you can find for that), and chose the bare-metal hardware platform accordingly which you can control over SPI or whatever. You'll then just need a random bluetooth microcontroller with SPI and you're set. I think you want to aim to release your product fast and solve one problem instead of taking years and doing everything you can think of - you can leave that for later.
      AD Shark/Sigma for DSP? Maybe, but remember the classics. The Moto X still has a TMS320 in it, but these days MSP430 is also curious.

    If anything the plethora of Chinese made iems has opened up the world of iems to a wide audience and hopefully the cheap gear is the os sufficient exposure for beginners to try higher tier brands and understand the performance jump possible with better engineering and higher quality parts. It’s nice to save a few $$$$ but most times we really DO get what we pay for.

      Yeah KZ doesn’t make a custom mold product, and until you experience a custom mold you can’t give an accurate comparison. They’re great for what they are but I’ve now had multiple sets of in ears from multiple manufacturers, and I can safely say JH is the top dog. There’s a reason he’s got multiple multi Grammy winning artists in his artist roster, and I have yet to meet anyone with JH iems that has ANYTHING negative to say.

      Just wait.
      There is plenty of demand and profit potential for Chinese audio engineers to make great stuff far cheaper. They already do it with DACs and amps. Just look at Topping making products that objectively measure better than stuff costing ten times as much.
      The Chinese iem market is rapidly growing and improving. Brands like Thieaudio are producing very high quility audio gear that gets great reviews from audiophiles.
      Bottom line is they tend to produce a glut of cheap crap which gives them a bad rep but theres always a small group of genuinely keen audio types who put out somewhat imperfect items in the beginning but quickly learn and improve just like anyone else.
