    Thank you for speaking a lot of sense! I've had a few in ear monitors and I never understood why anyone would want anything but flat. With a flat pair, if you want to add emphasis, you can. But if you get some that are hype'd in the lower register or whatever, you're kinda painted into a corner. I had a pair of Shures that had a mid range emphasis. It made me think my guitar tone sucked night after night, but no. It was the nasty hype they added in that mid range!

      Thanks for watching, Brendan. I've never tried the Shures, but mid-range emphasis would tend to make you tone down everything the audience loves in your guitar tone! Cheers, bro.

    I bought some custom UE-5's from Ultimate Ears Pro last year and they are AMAZING! I really want to save up for the flat response ones but for now my UE-5's are one of my favorite things I own! Great vid by the way :D

      That’s great! If I recall correctly, UE-5s are Mick Jagger’s favorites. More drivers doesn’t necessarily mean better sound, just different.

    I'm not a musician. However I've been learning about in ear monitors and trying different models. There are really good options for little money thankfully. Etymotic makes reference sound with the most accurate sound being the focus. They fit like a earplug so it's not going to be custom but it's going to block out enough for stage performance I believe. It's only one driver not multiple speakers in each monitor but I personally think it's irrelevant anyway. It's great you got ten years out of them an I'd bet ultimate ears will fix any issues since it's focused on professional musicians so you get what you pay for with that in mind

      You’re right, Chris. I’m now at the 12 year point and they’re still cooking. Just used ‘em tonight!

    another thing I love about custom iem is that you can design them. An iem that is make for you and design only for you. It is sure exciting xD

      Yes! I forgot to mention that, Yue Kosho. I had the Cassard double-forte logo engraved on mine!

    I'm a drummer and love my UE 5's, I've had them for almost 5 years now. (My first custom in ears.) My next pair will be the UE 10's.

      Thanks for the comment, William. A friend who used to work at UE told me the 5s have long been Mick Jagger’s favorites. You’re in good company!

    amazing video !! rly love hearing the perspective from a professional musician ! i've been rotating the use of my JH13V2 , UE5 and 1964 V3 for the past 5 years and i love my UE5 so muchhh, even tho it has the least amount of drivers compared to the rest, rly shows that like more drivers dosent always means better haha, but i guess also depends on the person ! since everyone hears things diff from one another ! gr8 video !! btw i think depends on where you live , it is able to demo such IEM's from companies like UE,64,JH and many more , where i live in singapore, there are audio shops where one is able to demo IEMS !

    • @RobertCassard

      That’s fantastic, Sean... I’ve never heard of being able to demo IEMs. Glad to hear that you love your UE5s!

      @@RobertCassard In the EU, a 'bach' is another way to say 'musician'. So many real 'Bachs' in music history, I guess it's a natural slang for musicians.

    You're right about the bass. How many drivers do you have in them? And what in-ears preamp do you use? Thank you!

      Ultimate Ears has a habit of upgrading specific models every few years. My UE 10s have two drivers and the UE 18s have three drivers. The newer Reference Remastered IEMs have three and the newer UE 18 Pros have four drivers. The number of drivers doesn’t indicate the tuning of the specific response curve, so I have no idea how much the driver array has changed the sonic signature of each model.
      Regarding pre-amps, we had a Nady PM-1000 wireless system which offered plenty of gain. However, our unit utilized part of the 600 MHz frequency range that was sold off by the FCC, so it quickly got crowded with RF and unpredictable distortion, so we don’t use the wireless anymore.
      Our temporary (wired) solution was to feed our IEMs directly from the mixing board. Our QSC TouchMix 16 is super clean and the headphone preamps are very high quality. In fact, I can’t say enough good things about the QSC mixer. So flexible and a massive step up from the Alesis rack mounted mixer we’d previously been using live.

    Which wireless system have you been using for them?

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  5 лет назад

      We've used a Nady PEM-1000T and two receiver packs. It's been okay, but never perfect. And unfortunately, the FCC recently sold off the frequency spectrum our units use so they've become even noisier since then. Nady is here in the East Bay, and they've offered a major discount for me to switch to a system with a different frequency spectrum. I said yes, but I've now been waiting 4 months for the new units to arrive from their suppliers in Asia. I may jump ship if it takes much longer. I'd probably go with Sennheiser because I've had wireless mic packs from them for years and they've been flawless.

    What are monitors? What does it monitor?

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  5 лет назад +1

      Monitors are any type of speakers or headphones which allow you to "monitor" (listen to) the music you are currently making or that has previously been recorded.
