    I did 4 days of headshots and the client wanted versions of 750 headshots that needed the background extracted to white. Evoto made this easy to do. I can't even imagine using other methods I have used in the past for that many photos. The client was delighted with the results.

    Thank you for this video, Gary! I've avoided opportunities to do volume headshots at events because I didn't know what software I needed to have to work quickly and efficiently. I like what you've shown and this can be a game changer for me! Again, thank you!

      That would be cool! The good news is that Capture One just added that in the latest update. So if that's something you need often it might be worth a look :)

    Great video. Can't wait to try Evoto. I noticed your travel gear setup is pretty solid. I know you have a video of travel gear but what I see is way more robust. Can you do another video or point me to a video with this gear list? Also, how do you load it all in and out from the car? I find myself making way to many trips back and forth and want to stream line the process from start to finish. Thank you!

    I played with Evoto, and it's a great tool and pretty decent. It is a tremendous time saver. For the high volume work that Gary does, it makes sense for his business and sanity. If it was a supermodel or someone's magazine spread, you bet you are using a high end professional retoucher. AI apps like Evoto are a force multiplier. Why not put them in the mix with your workflow. Makes sense to me.

      Great perspective for sure. I mainly use it for volume and it saves a ton of time

    The import/export hassle actually makes it an PITA for most photog's workflow, as I'm learning now. Having to go in and out, and into PS to make tweaks adds back any time you saved. And as long as you want a sterile background without any shadow or depth it works great. I think a plugin along the lines of how Luminar works, and tweaks/additions to some of the editing features could really make this useful.

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  8 месяцев назад

      I don’t disagree, the workflow is a pain, especially for just a few images. When you scale it up, it becomes less relevant. It would be great to see some more features in the future like hit folders and a PS plugin. Thanks for watching!

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  Месяц назад +1

      So far, nothing I have found even comes close. There are a couple up and coming apps that I am watching, but none that seem to be as responsive to photographers. The two things I said I wished Evoto had when I first started were stray hair removal and glasses glare. WIthin 5 months they had added them. It's just bonkers. Thank you for watching!

    Hi Gary- How are you managing what is seemingly double or triple amount of jpegs created with evoto involved in the retouching process? Jpegs saved out of Capture One, Lightroom for me, which have to stay in that file or Evoto can't find them later. Jpegs out of Evoto and for me back into LR for organization. Small finishing tweaks in Lightroom to get consistency. Then back out of LR for posting to gallery. Last thing: Are you keeping the projects in Evoto with the requisite jpeg foldersz or are you trashing the project and the jpegs? Thanks, Gary

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  5 месяцев назад

      Here's how I do it. I export from Capture One to a designated folder. Import into Evoto then export to a folder I call "Processed". I spot check those to make sure I like how it looks, make any necessary changes in PS (don't have to do this much because I take my time in C1), then upload to whatever gallery system I am using. Piece of cake. I would love for Evoto to adjust their workflow or create some plugins, but for the amount of time and effort it saves me, I really don't mind.

      Awsome! Thank you for the feedback. It works so good I have accepted the additional files for now. I have had a little trouble with banding on my backgrounds. Not sure what the situation is but I asked Evoto about it. hopefully hear back soon. They have really good customer service!

  • @rockj8197
    @rockj8197 5 месяцев назад

    Have you found a background color that you will shoot with that works best if you are planning to swap it out later. Ex:s pure white, unlit white, medium gray. Thanks, Gary!

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  5 месяцев назад

      Mostly I shoot unlit white but sometimes that can cause problems with light hair. I’ve had really good success with chroma key green and Evoto, but most of the time, unlit white or grey is fine, just watch out the hair isn’t too close to the BG color or it can cause issues.

      Thanks for the tip! I downloaded Evoto yesterday after watching your video. I think you could update your video as they have taken your advice on a few features like fly away hairs ( I'm getting credits just for that) and they separated out Freckles from Acne. I know you use Capture One. Do you use PS too? I use LR and PS in conjunction and love the interconnectivity and I'm trying to figure out the best place to insert Evoto. I'd like to see your workflow between all the programs.

  • @icesurfr
    @icesurfr 9 месяцев назад

    The freckle thing really put me off. Fixing that and fly aways would make it almost perfect. I really liked it, but making and using actions in photoshop is almost as fast as this right now, and I need to go into PS anyway for the hair , blemish removal and sharpening. I hope they can get this to where I need it, because I love the pay model.

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  9 месяцев назад

      As I understand it from insiders, stray hair removal is coming soon. It’s not a perfect program, but when you scale it up, it really shows its value

      @@GaryHughesOfficial thank you. I have noticed that with some, of these, it does not look natural, but will with photoshop using an action of desaturate a bit and whiten a bit, that looks better. Just that alone would save me a lot of time, even though I do a touch of that automatically in another program.

      Best bet is to download it for free and try it. Use the link in the description and you will get 30 free credits to play with too. Let me know how it goes!

    The unique feature that appeals is the one click change background to headshots. The others are available to one degree or another in PS, LRC, ON1 and a couple of others that don't come to mind right now. Frankly the differences in the Before and After photos were marginal in my mind. Certainly not worth the investment in more software.
    The pricing model for me is absolutely outlandish and is something I would never contemplate. Ridiculous rip.
    So yeah but nah.
    I can see it would be weffective for high volume edits in wedding photography.

    • @GaryHughesOfficial
      @GaryHughesOfficial  11 месяцев назад

      It’s definitely not my go-to for individual sessions, but like I said at the end, there are some strong use-cases where this software really shines. As far as the pricing goes, it is FAR less than what I have been paying for basic retouches with extractions. Until now I have paid $4 an image and now I pay 6 cents. But not every software is right for everyone. Thanks for taking the time to watch and respond :)
