It's so cool that her actual intellect is reflected in her songwriting. A lot of her songs have a pop structure but the lyrics are intricate and political. She deserves even more acclaim and success.
Her time at Cambridge and achievement did not go to waste at all, it all went into her music and her brilliant lyrical output 🥺 so so proud of you Rina and so glad to be an alumna of yours 🥺
What a great interview. She is so genuine and super smart. Hold the girl made me cry thinking of her as well as her mom, who was surviving in the UK with a little girl
OMFG I AM SO IN LOVE! Started listening to Rina one week ago and today started to watch interviews. The part she explains about This Hell Is Better With You hit me right in the heart, she's so precious!
I just discovered Rina a few weeks ago when I was watching the Graham Norton Show here in the U.S. on BBC America. She performed “Hold The Girl” and I was mesmerized by the song and especially her performance. I literally became a fan instantly and have been discovering her music and learning about her as an artist since then. This interview was soooo good and I’ve fallen even deeper in love with Rina after seeing this interview and learning so much about her through this interview. By the way, great content and I really thought the interviewer did a great job presenting the questions with a balance of curiosity, respect and sincere interest in Rina and her story. 👏 👏
What an amazing interview!! I’m seeing so much of myself in her and I didn’t even know! I’m a 29 year old, queer man, psychologist, wanting to have a career in music but with no connections. I see you Rina and you inspire me to continue this journey
Great interview!! And great questions! Made me teary hearing Rina speak about all this given I'm an immigrant in London and I also built my career to be a writer!
I love the questions in this interview a lot and also guys, here is more proof that it's never too late to start your dreams, Rina was already an adult when she became more professionally into music.
Yo after watching John Wick 4, she should definitely be cast as Psylocke in the new X-men movies. Rina is an amazing artist and actress. British and Japanese just like Psylocke, come on Marvel! Who agrees?🙂💚
Thank goodness we have another talented Asian singer. There’s so many talented and vocally well and way better than a lot of American singers. So glad time has change and hopefully Asians are more accepted in the music industry. BTS made it but this queen needs to dominate!
Come on, asking another question about XS when she’s talked about it so much? She has so many other songs on equally interesting political and personal topics that we still haven’t fully explored! Otherwise loved this interview.
All these comments saying what a good interviewer this guy is and here I am thinking that he just has a list of questions and its more a Q&A rather than an interview cause he isnt following up any of his questions and so it feels very stop start
I know British acts sometimes sing with something of an American accent, but what’s going on in This Hell where it sounds like some LA type is singing?
She is indeed an extremely talented lady ! And clearly highly intelligent , what really annoyed me after hearing her in radio 1 live lounge today , is the reference to her sexuality ! I thought the idea is that it shouldn't matter ? Yet for some reason , she's being promoted as an "LGBTQ" singer ...when surely she should just be judged as a singer regardless of her sexuality ? A massive " woke" own goal in my view ! They need to decide if someone's sexuality is important or not , I think it is better that it isn't!!! Which would have made me very politically correct 10 years ago but now ..apparently, makes me a dinosaur!
Sexuality/identity shouldn't matter but unfortunately in this world there is a lot of hate and until that is fixed we must still talk about it. Queer representation saves lives
@@alltsem i think most people are .. and have been for some time ..pretty liberal about what people do in their private lives .. I really dont think there is that much hate . Trhere have been , quite rightly HUGE changes in the attitude towards homosexuality in my life time and my own and many of my peers have changed our views and behaviour as a result ..but nothing will increase polarisation and disharmony between people of different races/sexuality faster than the current "woke" assault on our senses through constant media propagander ! opposition to the overrepresentation and time given to a tiny minority is NOT "hate" ! I know many gay people who share my opinion , people who dont define themselves entirely by their sexuality and dont wish to be part of a "community" whos only thing in common is NOT being hetrosexual ! Lots of normal gay people just want to get on with their lives and dont wish to be lumped in with a "community" that extends to the extreme ,mentally ill fetishist mob that is the radical trans movement !
@@GST51here is still A LOT of hatred towards queer people. It’s easy to say that it seems like there isn’t when you aren’t a queer person and haven’t lived the experience. LGBTQ+ people have only fairly recently gotten representation and most of the time it isn’t not even good. I mean this with all respect, but you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about and should listen to queer individuals when they’re telling you their experiences and their reality.
@@Nikolai508 I don't see how that makes me a dinosaur, it was " them" who started using the word to describe what they feel is some kind of moral superiority, so it is appropriate ! Yes ... I believe she does
It’s a shame the fans don’t get yo decide who’s famous or their level of fame
Shout out to the interviewer who did an amazing job with actually engaging questions
100% agree. Great listener too.
Yes! Mr. Pongo did his research and asked relevant questions. I wish other interviews with talented, smart women were this interesting.

Was going to write that.

Good answer Rina - it’s not about statistics but having fun and throwing in a bit of metal into a song. Great answer

Rina's Mercury rejection story is essentially how foreigners living in Japan for more than 10 yrs feel on a regular basis.
