Your perspective that there is check and balance on the Alaafin is incomparable to Yankee congress... You shouldn't go there..... Your neo-colonial mentality does little service to the interesting topic of how the Oyo empire was governed before it collapse... Please get your facts correct. The king can over rule the Oyo Mesi especially tempramental king

We know its incomparable, we are only trying to show that there is a system of government that is on par with what we have now even before white people bring their form of government. And you know Oyo mesi can send the king an empty calabash asking him to commit suicide. That gives them a lot of control over the king.

@@africa2475 Ona Kankanfo failed to commit suicide when prompted by the Oba, which resulted in war. Oyo empire is in an unenviable position as the most powerful but cannot sustained the new acquisition of territory. From the of our old empire, the success of Oyo and new found lands, failed to trickle opportunities for people, it creates resentment in the new territories. Our Oba or its emissaries not visionary to create new economic opportunities from its gained territories. The consequence of despotism is its own were despised , and subjects to the europeans adventurism of human free labour to works in their own conquered land overseas.
Our people required opportunities in commerce, trades, just a new setup of the society. We are all suffering from the management and colonialism compound our problems of own making. Oyo loose all its jewels.
With the current dilemmas of Nigeria created for the benefit of the North and Fulanis. The Yorubas "Omo Karo ojire" must goes it alone and rebound.

Oyo doesn't stands for African people culture if you Itesheikire now claims they are Ogun. Itesheikires are happened to be grand child of Ancient Oba Benin Kingdom, so where did (iyaruoba greetings by the few Hausas/ Fulanis) immigrant now turns to modern days yorubas as language. Sovereignty of Benin/ Edo Nigerian has long, long be documented before the full invaders.
