    So funny, I use them exactly the same. I use the 3mm big stubby for everything, rock, blues, jazz, funk....everything. It takes some getting used to but you can use them for anything by adjusting your grip. I went through hundreds of different picks but since I found this, never looked back.

      How did I only find this now? lol. I've always done the same thing, in fact, I've tested drilling 3 holes in different patterns to find the best one. There's a perfect configuration of 3 holes that I found, but it's hard to get it right without more precise drills.

      I use the little stubby and drill 3 small holes in a triangle for the same effect, but I can also use the rounded sides for fatter tones. It makes these vary versatile.
      I had a regular big stubby at first, but found the little stubby made me more accurate and efficient, so I stuck with it. I'm a fan.

    The pick is the most underrated tool in your arsenal. I thought that I was being OCD about picks, but the truth is, the pick can affect your playing, especially as you advance in your playing. It's helpful to use different picks and experiment with touch and tone. I just ordered these picks for the first time...

    I make my picks out of coconut shell. I've used a lot of big stubbies but the coconut has a lot more natural friction against my sweaty fingers and lasts for ages compared with the big stubby.
    Still they were my favourite untill I started making my own.

    I`ve been using the big stubby 2.0 for 10 years now, my guitar technique improved a lot since then because before I never felt comfortable with soft and flexible picks. I also learned how to adjust it while playing. The angled tip makes it perfect for fast genres with tremolo picking like extreme metal.

  • @emcgman
    @emcgman 5 лет назад +3

    Claus, what a fantastic coincidence, I ordered friday from Guitar Center, and took delivery just yesterday, 2 dozen of the Big Stubby 2.0, also 2 dozen of the Stubby Triangle, which is like getting 3 picks in one! The Stubby Triangles also give you extra leverage as well, which I really like for rhythm strumming. Check them out, too. It is mind boggling how many different picks I've tried over the years, including modifying picks with glue, all kinds of different tape, sandpaper, etc. A very timely video, indeed!

  • @sidusize

    As a big stubby 2mm user from ages now I must say I can't use another pick and I tried! It's just perfect, the only complain about them is that's harder to do pinch harmonics with'em since the strings are a bit farer from your finger tips but you can work on it and it's the small price to pay for absolute comfort and efficiency

    • @thanginamo360

    I’ve always used Dunlop jazz iii, but I’m going to transition to a larger pick. I have a pick depth of around 2 mm, makes pinch harmonics a breeze. However, I want to increase my dynamics.... and the fact that my hands are much larger than when I began playing.

      @rickschneider3887 5 месяцев назад

      @@p10ramboI was a Jazz lll player for many years and for single note picking they are great but they are difficult to hold while strumming. If you’re doing both picking and strumming like I do I’ve learned that bigger picks give you a tighter grip when strumming and pointy picks are great for single note precision. This is why the Big Stubby is kind of the best of both worlds IMO. You can also try the Dunlop TORTEX T3 picks which are similar.

    The point, and the material of the Big Stubby would make it my favorite - but I hate the doughnut hole. Otherwise, it would be my favorite. I "filled" the hole on both sides a little bit using round Greco grip stickers. I mainly use Jim Dunlop X-H Gel Picks (yellow) and I file the tip a little sharper so that works well for me. I SAW YOU THE OTHER DAY TALKIN AGAIN ABOUT THE DUNLOP THICK PURPLE AND I THINK I BOUGHT THE ROUND EDGE....
    PUT A LINK ON AMAZON OR ANYWHERE TO SHOW THE EXACT PICK YOU HAVE ON THIS VIDEO!!!CANT REMEMBER IF YOU HAD LINK ON THE PREVIOUS VIDEO...!!
    THE ROUND EGDE IS GOOD BUT IT SOUNDS SOFT VAGUE SOMETIMES .YOUR SOUND IS NOT CRISP CLEAR WITH THE MINIMUM EFFORT..AND IF YOU ARE PLAYING FAST HOLDING THE PICK AT AN ANGLE OF 45 DEGREES THE RESULT IS EVEN WORSE...!!
    IM A COMPLETE NEWBIE IN GUITAR BUT I THINK THICK PICKS THAT DONT BEND ARE THE BEST EVEN FOR A BEGINNER ...AND PROBABLY WITH A SHARP EDGE SO YOU HAVE A GOOD GRIP ON THE STRINGS..IF YOU WANNA PLAY FAST TILT IT A LITTLE AND ITS FINE!!!
    DONT KNOW WHY THESE SPECIFIC DUNLOPS ARE SO WELL POLISHED....AND SLIPPERY ....YOU SAY ON THE VIDEO ITS BECAUSE YOU WANT TO USE IT IN A DIFFERENT ANGLE ON THE FLY...SO ITS MUCH MUCH QUICKER...BUT AFTER PLAYIN SOME HOUR I THINK IT BECOMES SLIPPERY ON YOUR FINGERS..ITS GOOD NEAR THE EDGE CAUSE YOU WANT FAST MOVEMENT FROM STRING TO STRING ..ESPECIALLY WHEN THE EDGE IS NOT ROUND BUT SHARP.....
    PLEASE SEND THE LINK WITH THE EXACT SHARP EDGED DUNLOP AND ALSO TELL ME
    ALTERNATE PICKING AMAZINGLY FAST ON JUST ONE STRING...WHAT S THE FASTEST ...SHARP EDGE..OR ROUND...I USED TO BELIEVE ROUND EDGE WOULD HELP YOU BETTER TO SLIDE UP AND DOWN....BUT I THINK YOU WOULD SAY SHARP EDGE..

    You're very wrong when it comes to sound and pick ups. The type of wood greatly determines how the sound waves are picked up by the pick ups. You can have one set up pick ups in all of your guitars and they will sound completely different on each guitar unless they're made of the same woods, use the same hardware, scale length etc.

      @@NKN82 :And I've probably tried them all. Have settled on the 427PJP John Petrucci Jazz III. But I like the indentation on the Big Stubby. Makes your thumb stay in place and the pick not spin.

      Smitty Smith...try a dragons heart pick...very comfortable but a very odd shape. I really like them.

      Try the John Petrucci FLOW pick its the best ive ever had....ive used JAZZ III, Chicken Picks , Big Stubby, Tortex, Celluloid, Delrin, none are as great as the John Petrucci FLOW , theres also a standard FLOW but its about the size of a big stubby a bit too big and thick for me....
